People have been saying that since the GameCube, yet here we are nearly 3 home consoles later.
Let's not forget the 3DS, either. Its main competitor in mobile gaming was the smartphone (not the Vita), which Nintendo are now moving into as well.
If the NX is a traditional console on par with current gen machines, it's reasonable to expect it to do well enough (although I'd say it's unlikely it'll do as well as the other two; certainly not the PS4). Plus the inevitable successor to the 3DS will probably clean up shop as its two predecessors have.
That said, I'd rather they kept doing their own thing and I hope the NX is something more interesting than just another powerhouse. They did that with the GameCube and it couldn't stand up to the PS2.
TL;DR Nintendo isn't going the way of Sega. It's going the way of Nintendo.
