Regarding Luke Smith and his weapon variety thought process, Cozmo.. Relay this please

Through 2 raids and prison of elders, and also trials adept weapons, we could chase down elemental primaries of different varieties. Solar burn? I could choose between vision of confluence or abyss defiant, or vex even. Arc burn? We could take a pick from fang, oversoul edict, or fate bringer. Void? Word of crota, or atheon's epilogue. These just name a few, and don't account for the adept weapons from PoE or Trials. Along comes the taken king, and our weapons don't come with us (we thought you learned your lesson with house of wolves...). We are told this is to encourage variety, because with elemental primaries, it would encourage using the same weapons. But as I've pointed out, there were multiple choices for each element to pick from already, and this would have been the chance to add even more. The raid weapons, strike specific weapons, even Court of Oryx could have the chance to drop them. Strike specific weapons could have a random element just like the adept weapons did. Imagine the variations we could have if this were the case. But, as Luke said, bungie didn't want to bring elemental primaries forward. But wait, what about Zhalo Supercell? You gave us that one. That ONE. You speak of variety, and then you give us ONE. So now when arc burn rolls around on the nightfall, there is ONE weapon that fits. One does not equal variety. More equals variety. When we fix our plates at dinner, we generally have a main dish, and a few sides, right? We want a little variety in our food, so we prepare more than one thing. Instead of bringing our old gear along (especially the really unique PoE exotic weapons we just got a few months prior), and then adding to the mix to increase the variety, you actually took away their value and gave us one (repeat ONE) elemental primary. I'm not one to call for people to be fired. I'm sure Luke has a family to take care of, or even just his own bills to pay. But that really came across as a bunch of crap. You want feedback? Here's my feedback. That decision was a bad decision, and the explanation was a bit insulting. My suggestion (and many others in the community have said this already) is to add an infuse node to the old weapons. You don't have to make it as easy as it was with etheric light. In fact, require etheric light to bring it to 170 as it does now, and then convert that node to infusion. This gives us a reason to play the older content even if you don't increase the light levels. We would want to go get that gear and etheric light to bring it up to year one max so we can start infusing. This would give some value to all the 265 drops we get even though we are 300+. This would give us the ability to use our old armor and class items. And this would add variety to our weapon choices, because we could choose from the existing year 2 weapons and our year 1 weapons, both elemental and non. Cozmo (or Deej), I hope you read this. And I hope you relay the message. Please, when you learn from your mistakes as you did with house of wolves, don't repeat them. Edit: As the conversation grows, and I have more ideas, I'll comment them, and then add that comment to the bottom in "spoilers". Keep it coming. Also 1:

Also, bring back Thorn (and all other exotics). But don't stop there. Add more weapons with dots. Then maybe add weapons that have counters to dots. Perhaps something that eliminates dots if used to kill the Guardian who inflicted it. Or exotic armor pieces that reflect a percent of the dot back, so when you get in matches against several thorns or burning grenades, it might encourage the other team to change up. Get creative. Thorn, for all the hate towards it, was one of the more unique guns in the game. Lord of wolves and queen breakers bow too. Those were so different. Different is good. We like variety.

Also 2:

Also also, some of us broke down old weapons we loved prior to house of wolves. If and when you let us upgrade old gear, how about mixing in old weapons at the vendors. Bring shadow price back. The gunsmith rotates his weapons. Use that with the other vendors. Rotate the perks. And perhaps whatever gear is available at the vendor is what will drop in packages. This would give us things to spend our marks on, and add... Variety. Now, consider this dead horse kicked. Now send a ghost to revive the horse and make use of this feedback.

Also 3:

Also, also, also... Through conversation I had this idea too. Strike specific gear earned in nightfalls have random elements.

Cool ideas from someone else 1:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/193654407/0/0/1
Cool ideas from someone else 2:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/193653951/0/0/1
Cook ideas from someone else 3:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/193752118/0/0/1
• Personally, I don't think it was a BS excuse, and I see the variety in action. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see elemental primary's in action. Just in a different way. I've been thinking of two ways this could be implemented: 1. Elemental infusion cores have a chance to drop from old raids a. Void from VoG b. Arc from Crota c. Solar from Skolas. Leave kings fall the way it is, since it is our current raid,it's the way to get top-light gear. These "Infusion Cores" could add +5 light (up to 320) to help reduce the grind to max light primaries too. or: Elemental ammo synths. You could craft them 50 spinmetal + 10 Primary synths = 1 Arc Primary Synth 50 Relic Iron + 10 Primary Synths = 1 Void Primary Synth 50 Helium Filaments + 10 Primary Synths = 1 Solar Primary Synth. Your ammo type lasts for 5 minutes. I think it would be wayyy cooler to run a solar nightfall and check out what your buddy decided to make solar instead of knowing he has (for example) VoC, Black Hammer, Gally.
Cozmo (or Deej), I hope you read this. And I hope you relay the message.
Sure thing. I know a return to Elemental primaries is a big request from the community and will continue to make the dev team aware. Good job on creating well formatted constructive criticism. It helps having well organized ideas to pass along.

      • Everything sounds nice, but if more DOT guns are introduced will make them crucible terrible, and is something that shouldn't even exist with guns (abilities I am fine with)

        • By now we all know Luke Smith is the true Taken King. Oryx can take AI, but Luke can take our fun-n-gun playstyles.

        • Great Post!! Thank you for taking the time to write this. Your post reminded me of some of the old weapons I once used... I really, really miss my Fang of Ir Yut - that was slotted as primary for all three of my characters (unless there was a nightfall burn) And I had weapons on each of my chars for every situation. Found Verdict was always my secondary (sometimes traded for Pradyth's Revenge or Ice Breaker for sniping) and for the heavy, my old friend Ghally! Playing Destiny after House of Wolves was probably the best fun I've had in that game. Hell, I even loved PoE - and I still raided VoG and Crota every week. And the Wolves public events were awesome. And you had the choice to skip past and continue your patrol/farming whatever - Unlike with The Taken - when those bastards drop - you either deal with them or go elsewhere - Near the end of the time I was still playing Destiny (early November), I got to the point I was really, really tired of seeing The Taken....at first it was cool, but then they're all over the strikes and everywhere else - I was a bit pleased if I actually did a strike and they didn't show up. Funnily enough, I never really every got tired of the Wolves though - more often than not, I would engage them just to get that Flak Cannon for Flak-Cannon-Fun.... Now one thing I will say about The Taken King - I love the Gunsmith and I loved that there was more story and depth added to the characters. I even loved the quests to get Black Spindle, No Time to Explain, and the Sleeper...What I hated, and still hate even know (and yes, I'm still bitter) is leaving beloved weapons behind...Hell, I never got a Hopscotch Pilgrim and I always wanted one...I loved my High Road Soldier with full auto, Firefly,Exploding Rounds Roll...Damn, and I had a blast with my Lord of Wolves - that shotgun is fun as hell! *sigh* Taken King just doesn't have stuff like that...kinda bums me out - and that's why I stopped - I just wasn't having fun anymore...I really miss that....it's a damned shame because I used to really love playing Destiny... It's very sad that the sort of variety we used to have is no longer available or rendered obsolete due to the new Light system and the lack of a system for elevating (infusing) the year 1 stuff introduced by Taken King. I really miss those old weapons...It's so bizarre to me that Bungie would introduce so many new and exciting elements into the game only to take away quite a few of the good things that were already there....

          • Ass Hat Smith's variety concept is a total fail. To do high end content you need to use your highest light guns and armor. You are restricted by the light. I have tons of guns and armor that I would like to use because of their perks but their light is lower. You only have enough infusion material to bring up only so many items. It really sucks to use a new 320 item for infusion and it only brings up the item part way. Now you are stuck using multiple high light items for infusion to get one item levelled up. Thats probably Ass Hat's goal - grind to get more high light infusion materials to bring up one item. In year 1 I didnt need to switch stuff around between characters to boost my level. Had 3 of every good gun and they were all the same level. Now I have to shuffle guns and ghosts around to get max light potential. Double RNG totally sucks - I have multiples of weapons I want but most are lower light. RNG required to get what you want THEN RNG required to get light level drop high enough to be usable. Thanks Ass Hat. (BTW - he screwed up the Nightfall too)

              • Luke Smiths ideology on the limitations of Elemental Primaries backfired. Now instead of using a host of elemental Primaries based on Modifiers or the specific enemy you face, now everyone just uses one weapon, Hung Jury SR4.

                • But you're forgetting that you're giving feedback to Bungie. The developers that pay 0 attention to their fans and what they want. Also you're kicking a dead horse. The mere fact that they could keep Destiny relevant for more than a year is an unfathomable accomplishment. I've wasted around 638 hours of my life playing this game and tbh I regret the fact that I ever bought this game and it's bullshit dlc. Bungie will never give a rats ass about our feedback because all they care about is making a quick buck off of whoever they can dupe into buying what they produce. They don't actually care about what we have to say or how to make the game better. If they did there would have been rotating stock in vendors this time last year. Just give up. Move on to a better game. Let Destiny die in the way Bungie is making it die.

                  • Weapon diversity is what LUKE stated he wants. And every expansion removed vanguard, crucible, and faction weapons to the tune of 40+ (strike legendaries included) weapons. Forty plus, removed. But hey... Luke wanted "weapon diversity" hence removing 120 weapons over the course of three expansions plus elemental primaries. So much for weapon diversity.

                    • I honestly used a lot more weapons than I do now. Back then it was mostly: Hawkmoon, Devil you know, Vision of Confluence, Word of Crota, Fang of Iryuit, Shadow Price, Revelator, Light Beware, Zombie apoc, Cryptic Dragon, Felwinter, Dry rot, Queen breaker bow, Lord of Wolves, Hard luck charm, Radeghasts fury, Hunger of Crota, Hezen Vengeance, Sword Breaker, Efrideets spear, Harms way, Fate Bringer, Truth, Corrective measure, Bad juju, Atheron's epilogue, Vex, Praedeths revenge, Found verdict, Jolders hammer, Thunderlord, 77 Wizard, Party Crasher, P&T, Ice Breaker, Violator, Ghorn, Those are all the weapons I frequently used during the Vanilla, Dark below, and House of wolves era. Over 30 weapons, mix of Primary, special and heavy, with and without burns. Then I look at what I'm using now. Hung Jury, Antinomy, some machine gun, sometimes a sword. Like four weapons. Where the hell is the variety in that loadout?! It's shockingly apparent if we're supposed to have a wide variety now without awesome raid weapons with burns or weapons with great perks, then I'm playing wrong. Thanks for nothing luke smith. Stick to designing raids, and stay out of people's ability to use what ever weapons they wish to.

                      • The only way to balance all of the primary weapons, elemental damage included, is to level the time to kill at 1 second regardless of weapon type. Set distance by type at exactly the same, this will let the players then settle on the weapon type that fits their play style and preference. No one is the same so everyone will find a weapon that works best for them and we won't have a standard meta set by the weapons with the best Time to Kill ( Mida etc) as they will all be the same. Only personal preference will mix things up.

I don't have that big a problem with no elemental primaries but it would be nice if one or two more exotics kept it. IMO, the real issue is that we didn't go from sweet elemental primaries to sweet kinetic primaries dropping from the raid. We went from sweet elemental primaries to infusion fuel. The pulse rifle is the one raid primary everyone wants. Why is that? Perks. It's the only pulse with firefly and if you don't get that then life support is not a bad consolation prize. - Put full auto and explosive rounds on the raid scout rifle or give me a Y2 Saterienne Rapier with outlaw/firefly and I could give two shits about whether or not it has an element, that's a really good gun I want to use. - Mini Hawkmoon raid HC with final round and LiTC? I'm sure people would think twice about infusing that bad boy.

                                    • I honestly though ttk had zero variety. From the start, I was getting the sa,e pieces of armor and the same guns over and over and over. Usually with the vanguard pieces or the crucible pieces. Even worse since they added stats to class items, I can't even make my hunter look how I want them to, since all of my favorite capes are year 1.

                                      • You know there's so much they can do to mix things up in this game. Ok they don't want element primaries but how about the element of your subclass makes your primary have that burn. Each armor piece can have certain element burn that can make your secondary have that burn. the more armor you wear with that element the more damage your secondary does ie 1 piece of gear you do 20% element...5 pieces and you do 100% element damage. Element artifact or ghost gives your heavy that element burn.

Guy who brings idea of leaving Y1 for completely useless Y2 weaponary must be crazy or basicaly dont know what is he doing. Honestly leaving weapons like Jellyhorn, Necrochasm, Vex Mythoclast, Icebreaker, Fatebringer, Praedyths revenge, Foil etc behind that is simple crazy and stupid. That weaponst was art, great and enjoyable. What they bring since HoW and TTK is just forgetable stuff. Nothing else. EXOTICS SHOULD BE EXOTISC BUNGIE!! Same story with legendary weapons. Why they unsoperted them i basicaly dont understand.
