Just read Deej's latest post and it seems that skill based match making is out the window in favour of connection based.
I've been trying to get my friends into playing some pvp recently as they hated it last year. They are still finding their feet, trying to discover what guns to use etc, and now here they are about to get demolished and demoralised one again.
Why?
Because, as usual, Bungie only listen to their friends and the elite Twitch steamers.
I've read many threads by these people complaining about how their games are a grind now that they are matched up to people of equal skills and how they DEMAND to be able to go into a match and just enjoy themselves by destroying all they see.
People complained about the lag. I'm not sure I noticed a massive difference to be truthful. All I ask is for my weapons to cause the same damage as others using the same thing.
As usual, we'll have to wait and see how this plays out, but it's getting to the tipping point now fellas. Carry on pandering to the minority and you will finally finish this game for the people who pay your bills.
Edit: To the people who are asking how a noob can get better if (s)he's not being challenged by going against good players.
Answer me this. By your own logic, how can good players get better if they are going up against noobs?
Surely playing people of similar and slightly better ability is what you are looking for.
Do you really think shooting fish in barrels improves your angling skills?
Second edit: well, I still have a good memory of all the whining that occurred prior to SBMM happening. The amount of hated directed to bungie at every iron banner.
It would appear from reading the comments that red bars was never an issue during CBMM.
I hope you all remember this thread when it goes back. Can't wait for all these no red bar, no lag games during next week's IB.
Let's just see shall we.
-
My only complaint is I can't get the best around this week... I'll be eating that IB bounty.
-
Almost everyone wanted connection based matchmaking. This is the best matchmaking I have seen yet in terms of skill and connection.
-
You're retarded. Almost every single change that's happened in this game has been from shitty players that complained because they were getting beat by something that was "too op"
-
Your dad should of pulled out OP.
-
As it should be

Answer me this. By your own logic, how can good players get better if they are going up against noobs?
*sigh... let's play find the hypocrite! what you want and your response to ppl are completely contrasting. Before u whine, make sense... You speak for ur not so good friends, but they need to help themselves (and u also help them) out. The majority of people are also past the point of being beginners, your friends fit in a relatively small group. Bungie won't and certainly can't cater to everyone, and whining for them on forums will certainly not change that. There are TONS of tools available for them to improve! On YouTube, there are tons of guides, tips and tricks, stuff like that. There are clans out there for scrubs and ppl like u willing to help them. ALL THESE RESOURCES AND U WHINE ON FORUMS! What good does that even do? In the end it's really up to them, anybody can do well in this game you just have to give a sh*t Respond if u saw this I'm just curious about ur opinion.

I'll be honest, I agree with changing it to connection wise matchmaking. Why? Well, it's simple. Not anyone will be happy by playing a game constantly like a job trying to be better than the rest. Proving yourself you're better everytime. It gets annoying at an early point. I don't want to play sweaty all the time. Now trying your best and match similar or better players is fun too but not as a job! Games are supposed to be fun and relaxing. Your friends will have equal chances of getting a worst team than them. They'll crush others as well. The only difference is that once in a while they'll get match to better players and they'll learn and get better, even though they'll lose probably. I think area base matchmaking is a much wiser way to go. Not all the time you'll friend "no life" players (A.K.A. monsters). You and your friends will be just fine trust me. Now good luck and have fun.
-
I like what they've done, no more feeling like every match is a loss from the start.
-
I'm 1000% behind you. And agree they really do cater to the elites only.
-
Awesome edit and so true. How can someone get better if they need to tip toe around every corner? These matches are completely mismatched AND it still is laggy as -blam!-!

1 ReplyLet's just take a look at prior games and how SBMM has worked out. COD has tried this multiple, and both times it's caused huge upset. Now Bungie does it and it's the same. I literally cannot play a regular crucible match without having to try now. I cannot have fun, I can't just chill with friends. What about lobby times? I literally spent 10 minutes searching for a rumble match (not classic, btw.) all because of SBMM. Instead Bungie should just implement what every good game developer and successful game has done. A RANKED playlist. This is observed in the most popular games today: League of Legends, CS:GO, Hearthstone. They're not successful for no reason you know. Video games were made to be fun, and it's not fun when anytime I play a regular crucible match I have to be on my top performance. Trials of Osiris which was supposed to be the most competitive game type, is the most casual now. Something is wrong when that becomes the normal. So please just take a good look at past games, current games, their success rate, community reaction, and personal experience. SBMM has proven time after time that it is not good in the regular matchmaking environment. If I want to try hard I can set up sweats, or I should go into another playlist in which other people want to also try hard at. I need to know when I'm going into that environment of trying very hard.

1 ReplyI'm an average player, and I hate sbmm. I would take getting curb stomped by a skilled player over a red bar that takes no damage any day.
-
I just have one thing to say... Alot of games i finish top or top 2, i use a variety of guns, i frequently win 2v1 and 3v1 situations i was awful at pvp and used to finish bottom after more or less every game, i used to record my game clips if i got a 5 kill streak or i shut down a super..what did i do!? I played pvp and got better by playing better players! Not by playing players that were same level as me, the only way to get better is by playing a better opponent! Saying that you dont play pvp because everyone destroys you is a lame excuse for anyone to use, play the game, your eyes adjust and the reactions get fastee, map and weapon knowledge grows it becomes alot easier! Skill based matchmaking just made the crucible nearly unplayable due to all the lag and bad connections it was the worst state pvp had ever been in with regards to the connections
-
I agree with you entirely. The only issue i have with SBMM is that if a higher skilled player wants to play with a lower skilled player, the lower skilled player wont stand a chance in the incredibly sweaty match that invariably ensues. There really is no getting around it.
-
Bro if you can't hang with the big dogs then stay the -blam!- at home under the covers with your little sister. Until you can figure out how to shoot on some bodies head... Just keep your -blam!-ing opinions to yourself Thanks have a good one.

3 RepliesYou are stupid. I could explain to you why you are stupid but you're too stupid to understand

Tip: jade rabbit
-
Give lead to your worst player and make sure he is host. I'm not sure how much it will affect it, but I think that might show you a little more mercy in terms of sweaties, since I'm assuming you have more experience than them
-
SBMM is not dead, they just prioritize connection much more heavily (which is how it should be). My k/d is still < 1 and I am not running into too many crazy good players. I'd love SBMM if it worked, but all it does is lag everyone and that doesn't help anyone, even us scrubs.

Let me drop a little knowledge bomb on you all. Let's say for arguments sake (and because this is easy math) that destiny has 1,000,000 at any given time . Let's also for arguments sake say that all 1,000,000 play crucible all the time. Now for arguments sake say that 70% or 750,000 are on PS4/Xbox one while 250,000 are on 360/PS3. Now for Xbox one/PS4 let's say 60% PS4 and 40% Xbox one of that 750,000 so 300,000 on Xbox One and 450,000 on PS4. For those in the top 1% of the player base you have 45,000 potential players spread over the ENTIRE WORLD to match with on PS4 and 30,000 on Xbox one. Now seeing as destiny has its active players spread out over several activities, you can see how things get dicey. The top tier players essentially had the population of a dead game leading to laggy messes of matches. In no way are these numbers accurate

1 ReplyI guess I'll be the one to say it. I like whooping on noobs and under skilled players, i don't like competition.
-
I think for average players like us, there's not as much lag
-
1 ReplySBMM is good for nobody in a P2P system, especially one as bad as this. What the top players were asking for was ranked playlists and non ranked playlists. I am fine with the iron banner having the level of sweat that it has, I'm not fine with all the crucible directory being a sweat fest all the time. Ive had rank 50 halo team slayer games be less sweaty than the crucible has been for the past few months.
-
2 RepliesNo. It's still heavily based on skill. I think it was 90% skill/10% connection before and now it's 80/20. But it should be 20/80 in order to have less lag and more even matches.
-
I don't see your problem, I don't often play pvp apart from a bit of trials and I'm not the best but I haven't had a problem, I haven't really been smashed in any games.
-
1 ReplyWell you're in luck mate because crucible is still SKILL BASED MATCHMAKING, it's pretty fcking obvious
