If Bungie was so worried about everyone using the same weapon load out then why didn't they simply make the new weapons stronger, nicer and more appealing? Also, where are the primaries with burns? They make one and it's by default! Then people wouldn't be hung up on the vision, the fang, the thorn, the ghally, the ice breaker and so on if they had better options!!
Either way, the old weapons and gear should have stayed in the game as an option to use considering how much time was vested in getting them!!

Because the original weapons were so good . If you keep trying to make better weapons , you get this thing called power creep . This means that over time , if they have to keep making weapons better , they will just be overpowered .

Now - it's just equip same scout rifle (my preference)- for every mission, all of the time, and use specials/heavies for burns. I don't see how using LESS weapons encourages more selection.

Elemental primaries are bad since it limits the options you have in that primary slot
