Why am I enjoying Borderlands more than Destiny?

I am a day one veteran and I started playing Borderlands 1 with one of my friends about a week ago for my first time. I used to love Destiny and I was seriously addicted to it. I tried many other games but I kept coming back to Destiny. Now when I started playing Borderlands, I don't even feel like playing Destiny again. For some reason it feels so empty, even the raid or its loot doesn't interest me anymore. What is it about the Borderlands that makes getting the loot so satisfying? What could Destiny developers learn from it and what could they learn from the Borderlands enviroment? Has anyone of you had same kind of feeling with Borderlands or any other same type of game?

  • I just recently bought Destiny (vanilla) and have been a Borderlands player since it started. To be completely honest, I've only played Destiny for a few weeks and I'm already over it. Borderlands, any of the games are just far much more fun to play without the weird and arbitrary economy and gear lockouts from vendors. Seriously considering just going back to the BL series, especially 2 and original. P.S... also being a veteran Vault Hunter, I can tell you that legendaries and pearls are not, at least half of the time, the best guns in the game (depending on how you define "best", which to me is dps/survivability vs. ammo consumption) Blue rarity, red text uniques, which are most often quest rewards are your best friends. You do miss out on all the PvP action compared to Bungie games ( I don't, because I haven't enjoyed PvP since original TeamFortress2 ) but the loot system and economy are simply just better. I also don't feel like I'm getting fleeced or advertised at every five minutes the way that I do playing Destiny. Still not sure why my title screen is just an ad for TTK, that I don't own. That would be Borderlands starting with Tina TIna's Assault on Dragon Keep being my loading screen and not owning it.

    • You're sick of the game. Play borderlands for a few weeks or months and come back. You'll like the game cause it feels more fresh then.

      • Destiny needs new content. That's all. I love this game but it gets boring. In the meantime I'll be playing The Witcher 3 and 2K16. I'll hop on on reset day to get my raids done and I still need the beetle emblem from Trials, but that's about it. Still, no matter how tired of this game I get I still get super hyped about the DLC.

      • Why am I enjoying nearly every game I play more than Destiny? That being said, I've been a fan of Borderlands for a while. Tons of loot, great boss battles, and the characters are all hilarious and loveable (think Cayde 6, but every character is like that). Basically what a shooter RPG should be.

        • I know that there are people that will disagree with this statement but...Halo+Borderlands=Destiny. Borderlands (even part 1) is a very addicting game due to the endless possibility of loot. The same way you felt the first time you played Destiny and saw engrams drop and end mission rewards is how you feel now about every gun and chest you find in BL. Now, if there's a huge issue with Borderlands it's the lack of story (sound familiar), which is greatly rectified with BL2 (one of the best stories and villians in a video game IMHO). But the endless loot, the raids (yes, there are raid bosses in BL) and the constant quest, shoot things, rewards, repeat formula of BL, I think you are enjoying BL because it makes you feel how Destiny did on day one, curious and excited...

More in depth lore. Gambling. Miss Moxi. Norfleet over gally any day. More than 5 tiers of weapons (In destiny white, green and blues are pretty much the same damn thing) DLC DLC DLC DLC DLC
Why am I enjoying Borderlands more than Destiny?
Maybe it's because you have 54 days played on Destiny and you are playing a solid game you haven't played before? I was an avid player of both BL1 and 2, but I can tell you with a great deal of certainty, I have logged more hours in Destiny than I have with both of those combined. Not a damn thing wrong with taking a break, but trying to justify it? Dude the evidence is right there! 54 DAYS

*Handsome Jack *Tiny Tina's dlc *Badass *Explosion The list could go on but those are sufficent for a legit reason to why it is more enjoyable(imo).

                  • Borderlands the first is an excellent game. I feel the setting, the art style, and the general theme fit a lot better in a loot-n-shoot style of game. The RNG loot system is also a lot better than it is in Destiny. All I can say is have fun with it while you can. The charm wears off eventually.
