This is going to be like Icebreaker 2.0, a nerf that NOBODY is asking for or complaining about, but they will do based on whatever data they looked at.
There will be nobody to blame for this one, there isn’t a group asking for the nerf, complaining about the gun… but Bungie logic will nerf it. Why? 2 reasons
1) Gjallarhorn logic. Remember their rationale for nerfing the most powerful weapon in the game? It became a gateway to raiding parties on LFG sites… so besides the Spindle, what weapon do most raiding parties want to see you have? Yep, ToM.
Teams are not as picky as they were with the Gjallarhorn during Crota, but who do you think a team is more likely to pick? A player that has it, or a player that doesn’t?
2) It’s incredibly effective. Unlike PvP where there is always some gun to complain about (shotguns, hand cannons, snipers, pulse rifles etc), nobody will ever complain about a game that works against the AI. And ToM does exactly what it’s designed to do, ridiculous damage to the AI, especially Oryx and the Daughters.
Bungie ain’t having that! Can’t have something that’s TOO good. We can’t have something that kills TOO easily. So the most logical thing to do about a weapon nobody complains about… is nerf it. Chances are they will lower the final bullet damage.
Never mind the weapon has relatively limited uses in the game. The fact that it’s effective in 1 part of the game, probably has Bungie’s highest level nerds looking at it’s effectiveness.
Remember, these are the same people who eliminated primary elementals because we used them too much. They left year 1 guns behind (particularly VoG) because we used them too much. They nerfed the Icebreaker and Gjallarhorn because we used them too much.
We use the ToM for exactly what it’s designed for…which is why I predict they will stupidly nerf the damn thing.

I think they will nerf it eventually but because it isn't PvP centered it will probably be a good 8-10 months just like how ghally wasn'tt nerfed until right before year 2
-
1 Replyyup they will nerf it! then they would have xur sell it as a legacy engram to add the salt. tis be great!
-
Also ToM is acquired through the quest. So if people are that upset that they can get in a raid group they can grind out and finish the quest line. Gjally was RNG. Day one players could go the whole time and not get one
-
ToM is nothing like year 1 ghorn. It's only used for half of the raid. Once my raids are done for the week it goes in my vault till next week. Ghorn was good for everything
-
Other than the plates in the Golgoroth maze and your initial raid completion, there's no reason everyone should not have this weapon. And now that the challenges are active, you don't even need the maze one.
-
ToM drop is not luck based contrary to Gjally's. You can get it easily if you pit in a bit of work. It will not be nerfed.
-
It's fun to use at sisters in my opinion just to see how fast they die but in reality for hard oryx if u use 16 blight strat u don't really need TOM anyway. I just use it because I'm usually the titan up top effin ogres up along with my bubble.
-
2 RepliesTouch of malice is only used for 2 parts of the raid. Why would they nerf it? The ghorn was a whole different story.
-
TouchOfMalice is available to everyone, there is no RNG wall, and outside of the raid it is just not as balanced as other weapons. So shhhhh troll and merry Christmas
-
Dude really here is what i did to get my ToM when i had to do the raids....i posted on LFG these exact words "298 Hunter Look to run first time Kings Fall Raid and ToM items i have lot of other raid experience and i listen well and not a squeeker message me over X1 Please".....i posted this and man i got my first raid win and ToM items and fragments all in one run
-
1 ReplyThere is no request for a nerf because it isn't used in pvp, as long as it stays away from the pvp cry babies it should be safe!
-
I'm not even sure how to reply to this twisted logic
-
Naw... They specifically designed it the way it is.
-
3 RepliesYou're an idiot TOM is easy to get If you don't have it you're just a plain lazy -blam!-. Gally was rng, and worked well everywhere. TOM only useful in last two parts of the raid.
-
1 ReplyWish you where completely wrong , but it is true , mark my words they will nerf it , i bet it will eat up your reserve ammo instead of having infinate amo . :/
-
Only place ToM is used is on Oryx or Daughters
-
14 RepliesTough shit if you get kicked @ oryx cause you don't have tom. It's not like gally, there's a quest for it. There's no excuse not to have it.
-
The only ones whining are the ones to lazy to do the quest to get it. You had to be blessed by rng to get the ghorn. Anyone can get the malice
-
Good post op. Sadly I reckon your bang on the money
-
I wish you were wrong, but this logic makes sense. It is DEFINITELY a gateway weapon for Oryx. It might only have 2 very specific situations where it is God-tier, but we all know Bungie ain't havin' God-tiers anymore. This gun is quietly OP for Kings Fall, and quietly OP has been touched before i.e. Icebreaker
-
Won't Nerf touch of malice They might make it destroy blessing of light over shields faster But it's only really good in Kings fall where you're invincible inside brands.
-
4 RepliesNo, I don't believe they will. Sole utility is pve.
-
I don't use it,even on sister,no big deal
-
2 RepliesBungie won't nerf it unless the whiners whine.
-
I don't think so. The gun is practically useless outside of the end portion of the raid. I sometime use mine in Crucible though for fun. Then again, I'm a scrub!
-
I just got mine and am looking forward to increasing my Raiding frequency!
