Addictions have different causes: illegal drugs (cocaine, heroin), legal drugs (alcohol, opiates, tobacco), risk (gambling, sex). No matter the "drug of choice" no matter the cause, physically they affect your brain the same. They change your reward mechanism. An example for those who have never had addiction: You've had that hard problem you can't solve immediately with your knowledge. Whether a math problem in school or a repair around the house. You can't figure it out. So you try and work at it and you solve it. You feel proud, happy, content. That was your brain releasing dopamine. It's also why we think Homo sapiens evolved into the tool using, creative, intellectuals we are. That reward mechanism (a hit of dopamine) made us want to solve problems, want to find problems to solve so we could feel good again. Now guess why everyone chased the Gjally in year 1. And why they got so excited and chased the next gun/armor after getting what they wanted. Normal people can balance the rewards of a game, or alcohol with the rewards of life. Some can't and the reasons are as varied as there are people. But the physical response at the neurons is the same: Dopamine Released -> Give me more -> Repeat Action. Bungie knows this, just like casinos do. No, they don't want people destitute and homeless, but they do want you to keep coming back. But even if you can balance the game with your life, it's still a form of dependence. You need it to relax after work, reset after a hard day, enjoy a day off. Sounds familiar right? And a little scary. The OP is doing what addicts in recovery do. Cutting all ties to the old life. I hope he realizes that also means these forums. Eventually he will start to feel good playing with his child, seeing his wife smile. If you would support someone who wants to stop drinking or using drugs, then this person should be supported to. Take his story and replace "gaming" with "alcohol/drugs" and every addict/alcoholic could relate. And to everyone getting ready to reply saying they can play just fine, what's the big deal. I ask, why do you feel the need to get defensive and explain your actions? To everyone else, thanks for your time.

Hope you get everything back in order. As far as I'm aware I've never had an addiction, so I can't relate personally, but it sounds rough.

Good luck with that piece...I know eBay takes a portion of the profit from selling but that's still pretty high. I always use Craigslist to sell, that way all of the money goes to me.
