Hammer of Sol: A Day in the Life

There's so much talk on here of whether or not HoS is balanced. The troubling thing I find is just how many people want to complain that haven't actually played it. This is just a recording of my experiences with it over 2 days (most gameplay is from day 2 of the current Iron Banner). I didn't pull highlights, it's just natural flow of games. What I've found is that, sometimes it's great and sometimes it's a bust... Just like every other Super. I preferred GG to Arcblade year one because although Arcblade had the greater kill potential, Golden Gun was the more guaranteed kills. There were just too many times I popped Arcblade and ate a FoH, Nova Bomb or Golden Gun round. With Hammer of Sol it's the exact same. The kill potential is there, but there's a lot of ways to lose your super before racking them up. Throw in the severely lackluster PvP grenades and I prefer Striker in PvP still. And anyone saying I'm just defending HoS because my main is a Titan, I defended Arcblade all of year one. Not because it wasn't annoying as hell and a bitch to stop, but because the point of PvP is to be challenged. We want greater challenges in PvE... Nightfalls, Raids, Hard Mode Raids, but when it comes to PvP it seems like everyone just want the path of least resistance. And it's never the skill of the opponents, it's Thorn, Vex, Arcblade, Hammer of Sol and anything else people die to. There's no personal accountability and it's sad. Every weapon and ability has strengths and weaknesses... If we're willing to take the time to learn them and how to exploit them to our advantage. HoS has a very loud clang when activated. In 3 days of IB I've died to 3 Hammers because they're amazingly easy to get away from until they're over. Thorn had the poison DoT that put the flames (and later green poison cloud) on our screens. For me it let me know 3 things instantly. 1. Take freaking cover 2. What I was facing. 3. How to counter it Red Death and TLW gave no warnings of the power of the opponent. By the time you knew what you were facing, you were dead. But that death told you those weapons were in play and so their counters could be formed off of that. PvP is all about adapting and overcoming. Sometimes it's a bitch and frustrating to be sure. I've had a hell of a time this IB because I'm not comfortable with any of the new primary or special weapons compared to my HoW arsenal. Some people's exotic armor and weapons came forward and they at least kept the foundation of their play. Others of us lost everything and have had to completly rebuild and learn whole new approaches. I've even played IB matches using my level 170 NA3D1 Salvation State (and had success with it) while trying to find TTK weapons to replace it. I like the Crucible Scout, it's amazing at distance, but it's horrid at mid to close range. I love Hung Jury, but I like 3rd Eye when playing PvP. I love my new Fusion Rifles in PvE, but their effective range is 1/4 in PvP. The point is, it's been a struggle so far and so I have a choice. I can bitch about Pulse Rifles, Shotguns and whatever else is beating me at the moment or I can keep trying different weapons or learning where I'm effective with the ones I have. Perfect example is heavy weapons. I used Truth and Gjallarhorn last expansion and so dropping to 2 Rockets from a regular launcher was tough. I'd used a machine gun once in PvP year one and hated it, but I tried one of the new ones and I love it in PvP and have had amazing success with it. Because I adapted and altered my play to counter what my opponents are now throwing at me. So that's it. Everyone have ways to beat us, it's up to us to not let them. Peace.

  • Soon as I hear that clang. I'm gone. Seems strange they get so many hammers to throw unlike GG you have three shots. Would make more sense that way. All Supers are a pain but they're supposed to be. I actually hate the new hunter super more than the titan. It's sort of painfull stood watching frozen waiting for someone to kill you. Anyway there's been enough nerfs in this game. I wish they would leave it alone now.
