The Level 40 Gap- WTF is This?
ok so i know you guys who got great guns and stuff before TTK don't know about this as you transfer your guns onto any alt you level when they hit 40. I however have encountered a gap, a gap between getting to level 40 and being able to do ANYTHING. the only way out of this gap is better gear, its that simple. but players in this pit cant obtain gear, heres why. you need legendaries at this point to proceed and there are 2 ways to get legendarys, firstly you can buy them, secondly you can get them as a mission reward.
you cant buy them in this pit however as you need 2 things to buy them 1. legendary marks 2.vanguard rank 3. vanguard rank 3 is no problem as players can just do ordinary strikes or patrols, LEGENDARY MARKS however are a goddamn problem. you can get vanguard marks by disassembling legendarys but you need those legendaries to start with. (un)luckily there are dailys, 2 of which are PVP and 2 of which are PVE, all 4 grant the player 10-15 legendary marks.
PVP, HAH good luck with that pal, your going up against gjallahorns and hawkmoons with trash rare weapons and you need to win in order to get those marks. What about PVE? no better, the solo story mission is not impossible but i just spent 40 MINUTES TRYING TO KILL ORYX WITH 29 TRIES so f**k that. Finally the heroic strike.... if the story was almost impossible to complete then the strike IS IMPOSSIBLE to complete, have you guys tried a heroic strike lately? anytime i have i am paired with poorly geared losers like me how are stuck in the same pit and the 3 of us cant even take down a fallen captain, a single major captain.
Mission rewards? uh no, legendaries don't drop (or iv'e never experienced them drop) from anything beneath heroic strikes and raids. The conclusion of all this? if you start playing destiny now and get to level 40, you better have friends to carry you... or your gonna have a bad time.

You really have no clue at all how end game works do you? Aside from being level 34, year one players had no advantage over you. Our gear was light level 170 and basically useless after a couple of quests. Just run strike playlist for blues like everyone else did till 280.

From your highest character you could just transfer the engrams to other characters

Play the lower strikes, get blue engrams, decode them one at a time and check for higher atk/def than the slot its for, continue doing this until your light level gets on up there. It's actually possible to get to 290-300 light with just blues. Unlike last year, blues don't have an extremely low level cap on 'em

i dont think its something wrong with the game, i think your just bad or dont know what a grind is, cause every person in his game has to do it

You can get legendary engrams from patrol and there are blue engrams that go up to 300. I have a 300 rare fusion rifle. They aren't common but grind as many engrams as you can and get your gear up to Heroic level so you can keep climbing. Current light level determines possible engram decode level so make sure you have your best gear on all the time. My Hunter maxes at 299 and I have not done any Night Falls or the Raid. Jump in at Court of Oryx if you see people in there. They will usually stay and help even if you are a lower level. Just make sure to rotate the rune drops so they don't get angry. Good luck

You should have been arround for the forever 29 days I took a fresh caracter from 1 to 40 light 298 in a week it's easy 300+is way more of a grind

Umm you only need to win for marks on 1 playlist 3 times. You can loose and still get 15 marks a day on the other 1

Hello I would just like to clarify some things for you friend Those pvp dailies you mentioned, you only have to stay until the match conclusion to get them That's +15 marks for 10minutes of getting rag dolled if you're not a pvp'er. Easily done Vanguard strikes give you decent stuff, and if you've done ANY missions from cayde, ikora or zavala, you will hit 40 and be able to jump straight in there If, by some miracle, this hasnt occured, [b]every single engram drop[/b] scales to your light level ('ish) so you can do the level 20 strikes and still come out with improvements. Tldr: Don't quit events early and you will get shit.

After Vanguard 3, you get rank up rewards for each additional level, which is going to include either a legendary weapon or piece of armor. Same goes for faction rewards, so join one and you will eventually profit from patrol. I also found two legendary engrams in chests just waiting for warsats to drop in a 2 hr period. You work your way up slowly on the first character by just playing the game. I haven't even started leveling up my other 2 chars that are still at yr 1 cap of 34, and my hunter is still only in the low 290's, but good enough for what needs doing.

In other words. Look at your gear. Purples are there to be dragged UP if you like them. More often than not your BLUE items will be more powerful Edit: scratch all that, first you need to have characters. That helps

You get Legendary Marks for Quests. Also I am a 297 Warlock and I am still wearing Blues.

I get legendary engrams all the time. Don't buy the stuff from the vendors unless you want a hung jury (then infuse other stuff to make it higher) or the 280 ghost. Do strikes. Do the 36 until you get higher then do the 41s. 3 of coins works decently. Court of oryx. That place when there are people there can help you max out your engrams quickly with usually 1 or 2 legendaries. Side note. If you can, save all of your exotic engrams you get with 3 of coins until you reach 300+. Sometimes they will turn into 310 gear. You can use that gear to infuse other gear or just equip it. When you turn in engrams make sure you're the highest light level you can be each time you turn ONE in. Turn in, check if it's higher, equip if it is then turn in another. Way better chance of getting higher. As far as swapping guns from other characters, definitely do that if it will help another character get a higher ll. Always be the highest ll you can when you're turning in engrams. Just some tips I've learned. I have a 304 hunter, 301 titan, and 290 warlock. Just started my warlock on the 34+ path. Took me just a few hours to go from light level 200-280+ takes longer after 280. Do the raid. Court of oryx. Strikes.

You can get all the way up to 300 on blues alone. So I really don't know what you are talking about.

Edited by mike31988: 10/10/2015 11:02:16 PMThe daily pvp gives marks win or lose. The weekly pvp only gives marks on a win,. Your green or blue rocket is just as powerful as gally. Your green or blue handcannon is just as good as the hawk moon. Put your big boy pants on and go earn your marks and buy your gear. I'm getting purples left and right, if it's worse than what I got? Dismantle. If it's better? I'm equipping or infusing. I'd stick to pvp right now or patrols until you get better gear. Oh and blue items that are higher level than your purples are meant to be infused. Find stuff you like and infuse. I know it spends marks, but it's like gotta spend money to make money.

2 RepliesIt's easy to get both marks and gear, you get the same rewards from lv36 strikes as you do heroic, drop rate may be slightly higher on heroic, not sure but most of my good drops came from lv36, I've gotten more than a few pieces of blue gear that were 295-300 and most of the strike specific gear. Every mission is soloable as well, even fear's embrace (though that one really sucks solo). If you are having issues with gear grab a bunch of three of coins and go grind the lv36 strikes for an afternoon or night.
