How's everyone tonight? I'm glad you clicked into this thread. This will be quick.
I want to bring up a subject that I feel is very much lost to many players in our gorgeous universe. In a world full of instant gratification, short attention spans, and the ever growing need to consume and waste more than we create, I feel it is necessary to have a conversation with everyone about what this Game is about.
I came to this idea by reading a thread, oh, about 3 minutes ago. Someone complaining about not receiving "X" (insert destiny exotic of your choice), in a certain amount of "Y" time (insert numerical value important to you)....
Another thread complaining about not getting what you want , right then and there....right?
We all still here? good.
I began to think to myself, well, Gee....isn't this the point? I mean, we are playing a cross MMO/FPS here, and the point is to take time. To be able to constantly have something to chase and to always be compelled to get it and have super sweet goals 24/7 so we are always enjoying loot...I guess that's something a lot of people lost sight of.
You can argue, well they devoided us of so much content and I have all the exotics and everything....
Well then here's a thought to that: play for fun....
"Wow!" Some may say..."I forgot fun existed in this parallel universe!." ...well, Billy, it does...and if you just step outside once in a while and see the graphics out there, maybe you won't be so mad you spent "y" amounts of time chasing "x" and still haven't gotten it yet....
Slow cooked is always better. You want fast food? Go to McDonalds.

1 ReplyShort version of my response: - Intrinsic vs extrinsic rewards - Don't tell people how to play

1 ReplyThe "Chase" is a ladder! The "Climb" is all there is!

2 RepliesI see what you're saying but we live in a society of flash and 'look at me'. Lots of people who want to stand out and that extends to a video game. Granted, there isn't much to date left that people do not have (excluding vanilla gear), but when TTK comes out the grind will hit hard again like it did in TDB, and HoW. People will want to level up and burn through the story missions to get new gear/subclasses/raid gear to show off....to make them feel unique as if they have triumphed over something. So yea, doing it for fun is all and well but a lot of ppl will just burn through the new content and be bored within a month. I've learned my lesson from HoW and will go back to how I used to play and take my time to extend the longevity of the game. Keep in mind also, there really is no set matchmaking on here so ppl also try to get things out the way early with other eager players who they can team up with to get through the content not only faster but with help. Just my thoughts.
