15 RepliesThere is actually proof of everything spontaneously being created at once. Fossil records show that at one point fully matured plants and animals just appear on earth.

It isn't weird. There's an attraction to the certainty that religion provides. My evolutionary perspective is that religion exists because it provided answers--maybe not always the right answers, but answers nonetheless--to the hard questions like "What is life?" and "How did all this come into being?", which provided more time to think about easier stuff like "What am I eating next?" and "Am I that thing's next meal?" to keep humanity alive and prevent it from thinking itself into extinction. It's changed, definitely, and from time to time it's a bad influence (ISIS, Spanish Inquisition) and other times it's a good influence (above example. Also: Newton was a devout Christian who was defining the glory of God's world, in his opinion.) There are some social benefits to going to religious events, even if you can't believe in the spiritual side. Alain de Botton; Religion for Atheists is a good start. Tl;dr: Not weird. I'll be here to answer questions.

You sir, are an agnostic individual.

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 7/31/2015 1:40:59 PMBe a humanist. Either way, just read the bible, you'll remain a non believer. If you've already dismissed all the other thousands of potential gods claimed throughout human history, you have no reason to suddenly believe in just one of them. That's the only difference between an atheist and a believer, just one god. Belief is what one settles for in the absence of an answer or explanation. Don't settle. Become comfortable enough with the unknown that you don't need to settle. Embrace reality. Let go of belief. It will set you free.

Eh. I was atheist. Now I'm not. Assuming the sincerity is real, study the works of folks who have spent their lives dedicated to understanding their religion and/or adhering to the religion they thought was proper. It also doesn't hurt to spend time trying to answer your questions yourself.

Faith is just that, believing in something no matter what. Believe in God, trust in him, and great things will come your way :)

I mean, im a bible college student studying to be a pastor, private message me

Evidence, you won't find much. It's all faith. Believe and you shall repaid in heaven

The want to believe and know God is a good first step in your decision. Especially coming out and asking people publicly about the subject here.

6 RepliesI pray you'll spend your eternity in heaven man. Call out to God and ask him to show himself to you. If you mean it, he will. It'll change your life dude.

6 Replies...live life to the fullest...life is too short to worry about such things...i need proof; I can't just have faith... We've all felt these things (or something similar) before; and it is normal as human beings to question things. When it comes down to it, if we live with this attitude and there is a God with a plan for us after our human lives, then we have failed miserably and unfortunately there won't be a second chance at being in a, as my pastor puts it, "flesh suit". But what if we live the life of a God-fearing person and do His will but end up finding out that there is nothing after earth life? The reality is our names will probably only last about two generations after we die, through our kids and our grandkids. If we live our fleshly preferred life and there is a heaven, we are doomed for whatever punishment our sins deserve. And if we live life according to God's plan and there isn't an afterlife reward, we have lost nothing — the need to "enjoy" life our way is hollow because once we die we won't remember nor will the generations to come.

My advice is just explore this. You'd be surprised at how different Christianity is from what people say. The best thing is to find someone to go through this with you, someone that has a relationship with God and can explain what it's like. This is a big decision and in my opinion it's one that can give you a whole new perspective on the world. Most Christians would likely be happy to talk about their faith and help you with this decision.

Listen for an hour, hopefully it'll change your life.

Don't They lure you in with hope and pretty stuff, but just like the Gilded Age, you scrape off the exterior and see only hate, bigotry and stupidity

12 RepliesRead the article about how scientists can't find a way to replicate the formula of breast milk and the stuff that comes on babies when they're born. It's because it's from God

Fucking idiot.

1 ReplyRemember, you said you love the idea of faith. Faith is all you need. I could try to prove to you that God exists, but its hard to convey in text. Faith is just something you have to feel inside.

9 RepliesHere's evidence. How do we exist? Think about it. How did space randomly pop up and we got created. It's a bunch of bs to think it was science. While yes I believe in the science, nothing just randomly pops up out of nowhere. Someone created our universe.

This is called having intellectual curiosity. But in your version, it could lead to depression. Your mentality is that of someone who sees no evidence but wants there to be something good in the other side. I'm sorry but that's not the case. I want to believe I'm a time traveler. Or that dinosaurs still walked the earth. But theses things don't become true because I want them to. Follow the evidence. Not your heart.

4 RepliesIn the bible the first four words are in "in the beginning GOD" so obviously God is the one who created the earth and let me finish my quote "in the beginning God created the heavens and earth" so I just proved that he exists why would the most popular book in the world lie well it won't so God did all of it so read the bible and go to church because if something created the heavens and earth then what was that thing then think who created that thing and your answer is God

Well I see him on the TV Preaching about the promised land He tells me to believe in Jesus As he steals the money from my hand Some say he was a good man But lord I think he sinned, yeah Twenty-two years of mental tears Cries a suicidal Vietnam vet Who fought a losing war on a foreign shore To find his country didn't want him back Their bullets took his friend in Saigon Our lawyers took his wife and kids, no regrets In a time I can't remember In a war he can't forget He cried forgive me for what I've done there Cause I never meant the things I did And give me something to believe in If there's a lord above And give me something to believe in Oh, Lord arise

Hey! A couple books I found helpful in my Christian walk were Reasonable Faith, by William Lane Craig, and The Case For Christ, by Lee Strobel. I'll be praying for you!
