WoWs graphics are so dated. It's definitely the poster child of mmos but it's past its time and subscription based mmos are a dying model. Guild wars 2 was fantastic so it's not required for an nmo to be successful.

Edited by JOSH55886: 6/10/2015 4:40:00 PMGuild Wars 2 is great but it does not add new content very often. Besides it's living story. Put it this way. The expansion coming out for GW2 soon is the first real new content in years. FFXIV came out in 2013. And it has 2M+ subs and growing. So no, the subscription isn't a dying model. It's just that most games don't use it correctly. If you're gonna charge money to play, it has to be worth it. Which is why FF is still going. They patch it every 3 months. Adds new story, bosses, raids, dungeons, gear, game modes, classes, etc...

The living story is the new content. They destroyed the capital city for over a year. Arenanet is constantly updating the game and adding features/content so I'm not sure what you mean there. They've basically added several expansions without charging a penny for them. The majority of mmos are ditching subs that's just a fact. Especially now that console mmos are popping up more often, It's all about micro transactions. Just look at neverwinter. That game is completely free and it has a huge community.
-
Never winter is terrible though, targeting is pretty much non existent, it's laggy as all hell, the pvp is terrible. Broken classes and when you hit end game it is basically destiny. ...with nothing to do
-
I enjoyed it while I waited for eso to be released.
-
Yeah its fun for about a week because you're leveling. But after that it's worthless
-
Well I had two lvl 60s and while it was most fun leveling up, I still enjoyed running epic dungeons in order to get them max legendary gear which took a long time.
-
Hey to each their own I guess but you can't really argue the fact that the game is pretty weak
-
For free I thought it was good.
-
For free is why it was bad. They need to put money in it and charge for it. It would have been a much better game. It could have been awesome
-
Yeah sure just pump more money into any game and that will make it better... not always true. I liked it, you didn't. It's pretty simple.
-
You can't be dense enough to believe it wouldn't be better if they had more money. .....come on now, use your head. Money makes video games. Everything costs money. A game with a budget of a million will look better than one with a budget of 100,000.....that's just a given
-
Yeah that's a huge gap in budget. Neverwinter makes a lot of money on micro transactions. Idk the history behind why it's free but I bought stuff from the store. I'm sure they're doing just fine.
-
It's what we call an example there friend. Regardless it stands, if they went the paid model they would have more money, you can't think every person who plays would put over 60 dollars into it lol. That's ridiculous. The free to play model leaves a game in a weird place, it's just common knowledge. F2p games can be fun but they generally don't hold a candle to other titles who don't go that route
-
if they went the paid model they would have more money
Not true. If that game cost more than 20 bucks I would have never played it. I never even heard of the game or the series. So they pull me in with a free price tag, I buy a few things from the store, and it gets their name out to a larger audience. This model works for a developer of their status.
-
This model is terrible and it promotes the ridiculous in game store. Never winter shoves in game purchases down your throat worse than any game I have ever seen. It would be 10 times better withought that. That's why f2p is a terrible model
-
For a big successful developer with an established fan base, I agree it would be terrible but it's worked well for cryptic studios.
-
I liked it a lot.
-
Yeah its fun for about a week because you're leveling. But after that it's worthless
-
NeverWinter is pretty bad though. And I meant real new content. There haven't been new areas, no new dungeons, no new classes, etc... The living story is cool and all. But the game needs real new content.
-
Soo you obviously don't play gw2 or never have? They've added 4 new full sized explorable zones over the years and tons of new mini dungeon instances. There's almost an overwhelming amount of new content being added to the game on a regular basis that when I jump back in after like a month off, I feel lost for a bit while I figure out what the new activities everyone is doing are. We'll see if I ever play again though because so far I'm really enjoying eso on console.
-
See. Like that. They rehash old zones and change stuff up. Like I said. I like the game. But it needs real content. Which it will get with the new expansion coming out.
-
Lol that article is from March 7th 2013! All of the new zones have been added after that. They are not rehashed, they are full fledged new sections of the world map not previously available at launch. Lol there's no point discussing this because I can tell you've either never played or spent very little time playing near launch almost 3 years ago.
-
I didn't play near launch.
-
I bought GW2 maybe 5-6 months ago. Don't play much though.
