Kotaku just confirmed in a leak that the new major expansion for Destiny will be arriving 15th September this year. It features new subclasses, a new Oryx raid, and Oryx's army of The Taken, which seem to be a new race too.
The next Destiny expansion is called The Taken King, according to marketing materials sent to Kotaku. It’ll be out on September 15 and will open up a new subclass for each of Destiny’s three classes, according to the leak.
This evening, a tipster sent over a large marketing sheet for The Taken King, which we’ve been able to corroborate with other sources. The sheet—which lists The Taken King at $40—offers a handful of details surrounding Destiny’s next expansion pack. For example, it confirms the existence of a new subclass for each of the game’s three classes, along with a new elemental super ability: an electrical storm for Warlocks (arc); a gravity bow for Hunters (void); and a flaming hammer for Titans (solar). Hardcore Destiny players will notice that each of these abilities revolves around the element each respective class lacks today.
In addition to the usual additions we’ve seen in both other Destiny expansions so far—new Strikes, new PvP maps, etc.—The Taken King will have a raid pitting players against Oryx, father of Crota, who is apparently looking for revenge (and leading a new army of baddies called the Taken). Crota, you may remember, was the big bad raid boss in the game’s first expansion pack. He had a crippling weakness to LAN cables.
Last month’s House of Wolves expansion didn’t come with a raid, although it’s safe to say that it tweaked and added enough to justify that omission, correcting many of the more annoying mistakes Bungie made in the first expansion.
In January, a different leak outlined Bungie’s future plans for Destiny, and although we heard at the time that some of the details there had changed—House of Wolves, for example, came out two months later than slated in that leak—the outline did include an expansion that was code-named Comet and scheduled for September 2015. The name “Taken King” has been floating around for a while, too, thanks to trademark registrations and an accidental leak by Red Bull.
Bungie declined to comment on this story. We should see more from the new expansion at E3 next week.
So the expansion costs $40 (or approximately £25-£30), what do you guys think? Do you think this will settle for you, surely there's more to come, and I'm definitely hyped!
EDIT: Wow, so many replies :D Thanks for all your feedback! So it's common that people think that 40 bucks is expensive for an expansion, and it is! Hopefully there's a whole game worths of content and months of gameplay, as long as they go in the right direction like HoW, I see it being great :) Also I also noticed that the price for Brits will be again more expensive, so £40 it is.
EDIT 2: The Taken can be seen on the right of this picture. (Vex is #1, Fallen #2, Cabal #3, Hive #4 and Taken #5)

10 RepliesI think the sub classes should have been in the game all this time already. There was already a place holder for it. If not in the beginning then at least in one if the two DLC we already got. Since most of us got the collectors edition and payed for our DLC up front. To now put it in the taken King and charge $40 for something I think we should have already received just bites.

5 RepliesHas anyone realized that, with the The Taken King and its Solar Hammer for Titans...... Titans are basically the Avengers all rolled in to one? We have the Hulk Smash We fly better than any other class....Iron Man(by far the biggest stretch I know. Golden Gun might be better for Iron Man....excepting their lack of armor) We have our Bubble Shield....Captain America And now we're getting a Hammer....Thor Granted the elements are a bit off and we can't THROW our shield the way Cap can...... But hey....it's all fun

15 Repliesso for someone new to the game they need to buy The game dlc 1 dlc 2 and now dlc3 without all 3 DLC packs and destiny, the game is junk. that is well over $100.00 to play , we will not see too many new players joining and we will see plenty leaving. Bungie will have to offer a discounted bundle if they want to draw new people into the game.

How is the biggest failure in bungies history. It's killed their flagship product for all raiders.

3 RepliesThis is still not OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED therefore take every little word of it with a pinch of salt. All we know is, bungie is doing something with something called "The Taken King" which is most likely to do with destiny. Don't get your hopes up, it might be false info. Every rumor/leak have been way off so far anyways.
-
2 RepliesI think I'll wait for official info.
-
If you all work , $40 isnt really much, you save like a quarter and day and you'll get it by the time it comes out If you don't work and you're too young , you have parents

I think my cost per hour in Destiny is about 0.02p so happy to buy anything new at this point.
-
Lol @ confirmed through a leak. Nothing is confirmed unless it comes directly from the game maker.
-
All the expansions now cost more than the original game.
-
1 ReplyThe Taken will just be "slaves" of already existing enemies with a fresh coat of paint. The name is a dead giveaway.
-
I'll wait for E3...it's just a rumor by an anonymous source from the inter-web

holy crap! a flaming hammer?
-
11 RepliesHopefully the hunter super is an AOE. Or else hunters will be the worst pve class by far
-
1 ReplyI'll be running around with the flame hammer in crucible Gravity hammer V2!

1 ReplyCan someone bump for later pls

1 ReplyRegarding Edit 2 - Am I the only one who doesn't think that picture or those triangle ships from other concept art are the Taken? The architecture doesn't resemble the hive, and since The Taken are related to the hive I don't think they would get their own enemy faction card like the Fallen, Cabal, Vex, and Hive do. I still believe that last card to be the Nine. Besides when we kill Oryx that will probably be the end of the Taken. I got the feeling they look like hive creatures just altered appearance a little. All speculation of course.

Keep in mind The Dark Below was rumored to be a WoW expansion way before people started playing Destiny. For all we know The Taken King is a Diablo 3 expansion.
-
They better not delay the crap out of it this time.
-
The Titan super sounds like a melee weapon similar to blade of Crota?
-
11 RepliesI'm getting the expansion and fallout 4, cuz I got money and good taste ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
-
The dlc hasnt even came out and people are already yelling nerf the hunters new super lol

Edited by pulvis ira: 6/9/2015 7:27:11 PMInteresting if true. But is it? Only time will tell. And seriously, a bow? It just screams gimmick... I guess I'll have to wait and see.

1 ReplyI want more therefore shut up and take my money !

14 RepliesI. F*CKING. CALLED IT. I CALLED IT. I MENTIONED THE 5TH RACE BEING CALLED 'THE TAKEN' AND EVERYONE WAS LIKE "NAH THAT'S DUMB". F*CK YOU.

1 ReplyPersonally $40 feels a bit steep but if it holds true to being the same size Destiny(I cant really say thats a good thing) was on release that might be a good enough incentive for me to open my wallet, not like there are any other games I'll be willing to buy anyway. Hopefully the new raid being Hive again isn't a massive disappointment like CE was. Hopefully Crota's dad took some tips from Atheon. I also hope PoE will be expanded with new bosses and more challenge modes.
