This didn't bother anyone else? I was pretty saddened by it.
In my opinion: Fix the story, fix the game.
By story, I don't mean the sequence of events in campaign missions.
What I am suggesting is more geared toward gameplay experience.
-More development of the main characters (The Speaker, The Stranger, The Queen, Etc.).
-Find a way to deliver various NPC/Vendor backstories to Guardians.
-Find a way to deliver various weapon/armor backstories to Guardians.
-Give a better explanation of Factions and make them more relevant to actual gameplay. Give benefits/consequences to following each of them.
-Find a way to deliver more details about the strikes and raids we complete.
-Give vastly more information on the enemies we fight and the history/events of the war we are fighting.
-Explain the relationship between the various alien races we are fighting against.
-Make patrols and bounties more meaningful and in line with the Destiny universe.
-Do a better job explaining "the Darkness", "the Light", and "the Traveller".
Deliver this basic information regarding the world you created in game and you will have created a masterpiece.

9 RepliesThey don't need to make a story. It's Destiny...you make your own destiny, write your own story, make it your own, play the way you want to play, and don't forgot write YOUR own story.
-
It'd be nice if it seemed like my character had any sort of impact on the game world. The story would feel more impactful if the NPC's acknowledged what you were doing (Eris is a start, I suppose).
-
Honestly I just don't think they want to say we dont think that kind of idea would really increase sales dramatically so its not worth our investment of time and money.
-
I think they have learned there lesson from base game and crota, and will continue to integrate more and more story in with each dlc

6 RepliesI don't expect this will change in this iteration of the game. Hopefully with Destiny 2 we will have a better lore to go off of. Maybe Bungie should consider putting out a 30-60 minute animated "trailer" with a deep background on the story of the golden age, traveler, and the collapse.

It's time to consult with Joss Whedon. Seriously.
-
I'm more curious about his comment on Destiny changing per our choices. What choices?

Enthusiastic Bump!

8 RepliesFrankly, they hired a new lore master and that guy needs to get to work. I don't mind the whole dead ghosts read grimoire cards online, but I need WAY more. It seems to me making lore content and adding dead ghosts should be stupid easy.

1 ReplyDon't even know what you're bitching about anymore

2 RepliesI'm just sitting here waiting for Destiny 2 to launch. Most of the major alterations to Destiny that are needed simply cannot be implemented through small DLC. They need to reintroduce the world of Destiny in a meaningful way, and in order to do that they have to present a fully flushed out story with meaningful and symbolic characters. That kind of fantastic cinematic story telling simply won't arrive until then. I don't expect much from Comet, and I never expected any story improvements through DLC. The first iteration of Destiny feels very empty, and although it's meant to evolve over time, it should have still delivered a fulfilling experience. They have given no excuse as to why, so we can only assume the worst. However, with future iterations of Destiny they have a chance to redeem themselves.

In my opinion: Fix the story, fix the game.
Save the cheerleader, save the world!!!
in all seriousness though I agree, the story needs an big overhaul
4 RepliesThe game is already released. You can't fix such a major issue as Grimore at this point. Maybe in the next game. Be realistic in your requests.

15 RepliesI feel I might have the minority opinion on the whole Destiny storyline dead horse, but I never really looked for a story in a game. I've played Mass Effect or the last major Metal Gear game, where an overbearing story just took away from the game play. I could care less to go through each pre-written conversation options with just about every NPC in a game, hear the comic book origin stories, read their emotes, or research a world's lore in some wizard's guild library; deep down inside I am primal, and just want to kill shit. If I'm looking for a captivating story, I'll turn on a movie or read a fictional book. Video games have never made good stories, just look how most of their movie adaptations flop at the box office. Who has actually had to suffer through a Mortal Combat movie or the Super Mario Bros- you feel my pain.

Story will never be good for destiny. Even IF they did anything to add grimoire into the game, the dlc's don't work in synergy. Maybe if, at the end of each DLC we were lead into a new DLC via "cliffhanger" but we have no cutscenes to do that lol.
-
Even if grimoire were implemented in game it wouldn't even scratch the surface on what you are asking for. We simply won't see development of that magnitude until the Comet at best, but we'll most likely have to wait until Destiny 2.
-
I completely agree with you. When I first started playing destiny, I had a few friends guide me thru most of the basic stuff. They couldn't tell me who the speaker was or how he related to the story, all they could say about tower NPC is what they sold. Kinda disappointing imo that they didn't expand more upon the great story that Destiny could be, hopefully they integrate it more into Destiny 2

1 ReplyI must be part of the minority but I didn't give 2 shits about the story. What i liked about the concept of the game was to use the pve to build your guardian so you can compete in the pvp. Which i did and didn't realise how horrible the pvp is. So i did the strikes and raids until they got boring or i had got everything i needed. I only to crota hard cp each week so I can get the crux. The story for me is irrelevant I would prefer them to make the game less of a grind so you are not repeating the same bounties every few days.
-
7 RepliesYou must realize that your whole character development comment is irrelevant, because the point of the character is to be a blank slate. They can't define a character because you are the character. This is a simultaneous multi and single player world. So if every character had the same name, everyone would be complaining about that. Also, because that character IS you, they are supposed to become you. So your personality while playing, is the guardians personality. The reason there is no character development is because it is a constantly multiplayer game. So don't go comparing it to games such as Mass Effect and Gears(pointed towards other comments) because it isn't that. And again to pick on the character and story development point, this is the first game in a likely a line of Destiny games. Of course there isn't going to be a fully realized story, or else anything to come would be stagnant and already said. A good example is Halo. In the first Halo, there was almost no character development. And the story development was basic at best. This game at least has the benefit of grimore cards for much of the background, which most people over-look. And just like if it was part of the story, you have to play a certain amount of the game to unlock this information. The entirety of the story is right there.

3 RepliesI just want more things to kill and better huns.

Did he remarked on the grimoire? I thought he started talking about story missions while avoiding the grimoire question.
-
3 RepliesI see why some people would care but I personally don't play games for the story.

1 ReplyEdited by ironpoopie: 4/23/2015 8:35:59 PMYou see the problem is they broke up the game so there is a lot of disjointedness it it's current state. Once they deliver the rest and you paid for it then you will see and understand everything. But for now they think they have the upper hand feeding you a carrot to get you to continue playing and paying. You decide if it's worth it.

He didn't deny anything about it though. He side stepped it. Which means there is something in the works that may or may not be in house of wolves. It might be in comet it might come in a patch. I mean, idk, I feel like putting in grimoire cards is just........a secondary thing right now. Just my opinion on needs. We can read them here. The rush to have them is not warranted by me. I do see how is helps though. And your points are all Helpful to the game. However, the only way to make the factions relevant is to involve them in the things we do. Buying gear and weapons to show off these factions don't make them more relevant. Just helps us look cool. I think as we go on, and things are added, we will learn more. That is the stance I took on the game. Getting all thing beginning stuff makes me want to know more and being able to experience the fruits of the lore later on helps me. We know enough about everyone. We know why these things are are around and know most of their purposes. The hive got expounded upon in the current dlc. The reef and probably some more of the fallen will Be expound upon. In this dlc. I want comet to be focused on one faction though. Will it? Probably not but it would be nice. Idk just throwing out thoughts while bumping this civilized piece of criticism

I would say they should at least give of grimoire cards for acquiring Exotic/Legendary Armor
