going under the stairs or jumping on top of the light?
Just wondering because screw that lol
Played it last night with two friends and if we didn't go under the stairs we would have had little chance of beating it.
Edit: Thanks for all the honest posts and tut, tut, tut to the liars. Stats don't lie ;-)

Basically solo'd him from under stairs, the other guys were dead out in the room and there was no way to reach them. I was rewarded with a special legendary weapon, which turned into shards. They received icebreaker and the mida multi-tool. :( All good though I can't complain, RNG has been good to me.

3 RepliesThis is a definite sore spot for me today. Got an invite to do the Wakening from a player I had rolled with before. When I joined him an another player they were almost done and we finished without a hitch. He then wanted to do the Nightfall, which I needed to do with my Warlock so I tagged along. We made it through to VT without much problem and once we entered the room one guy ran to the boxes at the front left, which was cool. I stayed on the upper platform on the back right and while VT was distracted by the guy behind the boxes, I sniped away at VT's head. All was going smoothly until the guy who I had played with before reverted to his usual cowboy ways. The guy refused to stay under cover and continuely ran out into the open, needless to say he died. No big deal except the guy hiding behind the boxes felt the need to revive the jerk. Of course he died as well. I was cool with this as I continued to blast away, but once VT decide to move to my end that put me in a bind. I know that ads would be spawning behind me once I turned to face VT, so decide it was time to put my Sunsinger to the test and revive the other players. This went off without a hitch and I proceeded to hide with the original box guy and we rocked VT, of course cowboy continue to run out in the open and went down again. For some odd reason my box mate decided to run out and attempt a save, needless to say he didn't make it. I went out once my super was back up and got him, but he immediately died and several Psion Operates fell upon me and that was it. Needless to say I won''t be playing with cowboy again.

I have no idea what those spots are....
-
Yep I hid under the stairs. Man Bungie sure knows how to make those "30 seconds of fun" stretched out into a 25 minute bullet sponge with endless ads that can one slap you to death fight. I've never hid like a coward so much in a video game. Thank you Bungie. What a quality boss encounter you have designed #sarcasm

3 RepliesDefine "under the stairs" I have my own spot I don't tell anyone because I don't want it patched but are you talking back left cornor or room? Left of where Valus comes out of?
-
Yeah me and a 2 randoms did it quite easily though 1 did hide
-
4 RepliesI beat it solo without doing either. Just hid behind the box when u first walk in.
-
The plates and box on the side you come in on are good to hide behind. No splash damage. I just sat behind there with my icebreaker!
-
Ya it's a joke, just watch out for the little shit guys
-
6 RepliesI solo it without that
-
I only did that on one of my characters. Admittedly. It was the second time through and I couldn't stand going through it a third time. But I'm impatient lol
-
Yeah I've used the light for months. I don't do it in roc, but soloing or two manning the NF and/or heroic, that light comes in handy. Three man isn't really necessary, unless you want it as insurance or something.

Me and a group of randoms did this Nightfall and finished it on our 2nd try, no stairs or jumping on the lamp. Watched each other's backs and stay behind cover, that's all it took. Then when I did Nightfall the 2nd time with my friend, I had to go under the stairs, because she is just too damn die hard about that idea. I hate the stairs, hate it with a passion. Spending 30 minutes shooting from 3 little peek holes is not my idea of fun.

4 RepliesI've beaten it a few times legit, but cheesing is the only sure way for me to do it in one go. Although, both ways take forever. Legit is hard because I end up having to retry a few times, and cheesing is lengthy because those damn shield wielding morons who block your view.
-
We all hid lol
-
I will admit i hid under the stairs
-
I did the Nightfall 3 times this week, and did it legit the first time (but I tried to avoid as many unnecessary enemies, as always) cheesed it on the light and got bored the 2nd time, and went under the stairs the 3rd time. I tend to have an instinct to punch enemies so lightswitch and I aren't best friends.
-
1 ReplyI don't like under the stairs, I prefer first box as you enter. I get less cover but it's more lenient and open for me to fire out without VT kicking NY fave in with turret fire
-
I did the weekly, I'll try the nightfall tomorrow... but because of lightswitch, I'm gonna try the stairs. Don't know if my hunter can reach the ceiling.
-
I hid in the boxes too

Edited by Barbatos: 1/9/2015 11:11:03 PMI got under the stairs but I'm not doing it anymore (least not the entire fight). It's boring and frustrating as -blam!-. You shoot Valus and after a while he moves to the otherside and you have to wait until he comes back. He does only for those damn space turtles to get in your way. Great now we have to deal with these guys first. Plus, Valus can still fire his minigun and rocket launcher into that hiding spot.
-
Nope. Tried the light, didn't like it. Went under the stairs, then finished him from what I refer to as "the pocket" on the opposite side, as usual.
-
Hid by the stairs... Then major Psions do my head in haha
-
I jumped onto the light. But I've been doing that for quite a while.
-
Yes! Stayed near the entrance though.

1 ReplyI never hide under the stairs and only found out about the bit above the arena the other day. If you stay on the right side platform it's not that bad with a fireteam that knows what they're doing.
