My thoughts? Trayvon's death was completely avoidable and that bothers me more than any court ruling. Zimmerman never should have left his car. Pursuing Martin makes Zimmerman's cry of "self-defense" almost irrelevant because [i]he was the one who looked for the confrontation.[/i] Now if Zimmerman's story is true, and Trayvon came from behind and sneak attacked Martin, then he is within legal grounds to defend himself, but Zimmerman never should have gotten out of his car and followed him to begin with.

17 RepliesNot saying the kid deserved to die. A lost life is simply tragic, but Z did do us a favor as the kid was becoming quite the thug. The act certainly could not have been called murder and manslaughter would have been a stretch. I am okay with this verdict.

17 Replies...I have lost all hope in this country. Seriously. This is the most appalling thing ever. I never thought it'd come to this, but we've blatantly defended a hate crime and an outspoken racist murderer. I don't even know what to say.

1 ReplyPersonal feelings aside.... The jury was never instructed to decide whether they believe there was a stalking by Zimmerman, or that an altercation ensued. That was fact. What was up for debate is whether or not, at the time Trayvon was shot, George feared for his life. If he did, it was legal shooting under Stand Your Ground law. If not, then it was murder or manslaughter. Problem is, no one knows what exactly happened in the fight, aside from the victims (They both are at this point). There were no witnesses, which made is difficult for the prosecution to try and deny that George feared for his life. We don't know who was in control when the shooting happened. What we do know is that Zimmerman did sustain several head injuries from the fight. This wasn't about race, as people like to say. This wasn't a "Black on White dispute". This was on the Stand Your Ground law, and no matter what side you look at it, a teenager is dead and the shooter now has to live with that on his head, on top of negative public opinion.
