Which version of Batman in the movies is the best?

For myself, that would be the Nolan movies. Because those movies are more grounded.

Pattinson, and I’m sorry, but it’s not even close. Here’s why; He’s one of TWO live action Batmen that don’t kill, either directly or indirectly. The other one is George Clooney. Bale let Ra’s die, burned down The League of Shadows HQ, presumably with a TON of people in there. Keaton strapped dynamite to a guy, dropped him into a hole and smiled as he walked away, AND he cut Joker off the rope ladder. Kilmer threw the coins at Two-Face, causing him to fall to his death. Even West got people killed. And Affleck just straight up shot and blew people up. He was FAST with the martial arts and TOUGH, but still realistic for a regular human being. Batfleck had an amazing warehouse fight scene, but a majority of those moves were beyond the capabilities of a normal man. He literally threw a crate at a guy that launched him backwards so far and so hard his skull cracked open and he died. His belt was functional and LOOKED functional. He had pouches filled with gadgets. All other utility belts seen in live action (save for Adam West) couldn’t POSSIBLY hold the things they did, as they were just belts. His voice was great. It wasn’t garbled like Bale, it wasn’t robotic like Affleck, it wasn’t unchanged like West, or Clooney, it was more like Kilmer and Keaton. Subtle, but enough of a change. Intimidating without being over the top. HUMOR. Something people forget Batman’s dry humor, but Pattinson nailed the subtle humor without leaning into campy territory. The physique. This is the first time we’ve had a Batman with a fit, realistic, healthy physique. He wasn’t dehydrated or starving. He had lean bulk and scars from fights and (presumably) training. The tech. Probably one of the more tech savvy Batmen who didn’t rely on someone else to make his tech and control things for him. He built his car from the ground up, he didn’t just grab a tank and paint it black. The tech was also super cool. The dual grappling hooks from his gauntlets, the built in taser gloves, the cape that transforms into a wing suit, an emblem that can be used as a utility knife. Brilliant. THE EYESHADOW. FINALLY. A Batman who has eye makeup on when he takes off the cowl. When they showed that in the trailer, I was SHOCKED they did that. They’ve NEVER done that. You can always tell the actor is wearing makeup under the cowl, but as soon as the cowl is removed, the makeup is gone and their hair is pristine. When Pattinson takes his cowl off, he’s got eyeshadow on, messy hair and sweating. The fantastical within the realism. So many Batman movies choose between his fantastical side or his grounded side. Nolan went full grounded. No Venom, no Lazarus pit, despite those being CRUCIAL to the characters of Bane and Ra’s Al Ghul, respectively. Reeves was able to bring fantastical elements into reality. The neon green adrenaline shot that takes Batman from nearly unconscious to a violent, brutal force, just like Venom. A Joker that looks like he was actually dropped into a vat of chemicals, but still looking like The Joker. The suit. May be controversial, but I love the suit. It’s perfect for an early Batman. The cowl being a modern version of West’s cowl is so cool, the suit being incredibly functional but also comfortable and flexible, pouches, pockets, the outline on his pants in the shape of trunks like the classic costume, and making the suit look cobbled together but still cohesive. The acting. Everyone acted their butts off in this movie, but Pattinson is just phenomenal. His narration at the beginning and the end, first being a symbol of vengeance and then hope, of healing. Possibly the best on screen Batman character arc. And his ability to act without making a sound, just using his eyes was fantastic. He was Batman 90 percent of the time. Lots of Batman movies choose between focusing on Bruce or Batman, and usually spend too much time on Bruce. Batman Begins, The Dark Knight Rises and Batman and Robin suffer from this. But this movie had him be Bruce just enough. Not too little, not too much. He’s in his early days, focusing on being The Batman, he doesn’t care about Bruce, he doesn’t think he can do anything as Bruce, not until the end. He’s ACTUALLY a detective. He’s at the scene, he’s finding clues, he’s investigating leads, he’s interrogating people without beating the crap out of them, he’s putting in the work. And it’s phenomenal. His Alfred. For the small amount of screen time we got with him, Andy Serkis as Alfred was superb. Reluctantly helping Bruce as Batman, wishing he could do more and knowing he can’t. Doing his best to protect him from his father’s secrets, training him, helping him solve riddles, a war veteran with a badass scar and cane, but gentle as well. SOOOOOO many Alfreds are set aside as just the butler, save for Sean Pertwee and Jermey Irons who actually got involved, even if Irons didn’t PHYSICALLY do much but rather helped from afar. Reeve’s Gotham. A dark, gritty, smog filled city, sprawling with crime. Gothic and modern at the same time. Not over the top like Burton or Schumacher’s Gotham with MASSIVE statues all over the place. And not just a regular, clean city like Nolan’s Gotham. Overall, these qualities make an AMAZING Batman. I don’t think I can ever see anyone else play Batman as well as Robert Pattinson did and I cannot wait to see the sequel.

Keaton. The OG. Bale wasn't bad either. Pattenson was horrible left the movie 20min in.

        • I’m going to unironically say Lego Batman. He is Batman distilled into Bat’s purest form.

          👎👍🙏⚔️😴 - old

for me... its kind of isolation/phases of cartoon and movie periods for Nolan >> Dark Knight is tops... everything about it... 1st half of Batman Begins.. couldn't care less about anything else... don't consider Nolan as great as everyone thinks he is... Dark Knight is not the movie it would be without that Joker performance... you wouldn't be able to stand the length.. instead you are like.. I'm glad its not over Then the Tim Burton 1st 2 movies are excellent >> "creepy gothic aesthetic" (credit eeriearcade)... that even ties to the Batman Detective Cartoons playing at the time that I would watch afterschool at 4pmEST.. the cartoons I have always found to be of high quality I think I saw The Batman 2022 with Pattison.. I think he is a great actor just dont recall much about it... also Juaqin's Joker movie the 1st one... good flick but not a batman movie... What I remember that I kept going back to was Gotham.. that show was done very well imo.. also when I found the justice league and young justice cartoons I was also impressed at how they made it work... from the films you just think DC is kind of a wreck but they have put some good stuff down ...haha sry just rambling style post

        • Another vote for Tim Burton’s Batman. Captured the creepy gothic aesthetic, but also had plenty of fun with it. Nolan’s Batman takes itself a bit too seriously for my taste. I thought The Dark Knight was excellent though, mainly due to Heath Ledger’s Joker.

            Keaton/Nicholson is a better rivalry than Bale/Ledger

          • Same. Nolan series was the best in my opinion. Especially the one with the Joker.

There's no "riddle" to this so everyone can just "chill" out... And don't be "two faced" about your replies or it might make you look like a "joker" and i apologize for "Robin" all the humor in this thread but if you must put me down be humane and use a "poison ivy" and even then I'll "peng(win)"... • Ledger understood the Joker, but I don't know about Nolan's Batman. Kevin was the best movie Batman... and the Killing Joke is probably the best Batman movie and story... however I am fan of Frank's interpretation... Alan Moore has written the best Batman stories, imo.

            • Tim Burtons Gotham aesthetic was peak; you cannot change my mind.
Also what's this -blam!- about "Grounded" he's a Billionaire who uses his wealth to make bat costume and fights crime with gadgets that shouldn't be mechanically possible. Grounded. LOL
Mask of the Phantasm. Because the 90's Animated Series is top shelf.
