Dear devs...Marathons potential is limitless with one thing... (FORGE MODE)

Recently the community has been up and arms over the weekends only stance of the devs on the Cryo archive and ranked modes. The fix is not really that difficult it is a matter of them comprehending and executing it. Ranked will always be a sweat fest so allowing it to be any time of the week is a no brainer. The people that play more will always be on the leader boards if you are not actively no lifing this or any other game you will not beat the people that are, there is no "fix" for that which could ever be implemented. If it were weekends only there will still be people that play and stream it 24hours while death clutching a monster energy drink which a married person with multiple kids is not doing in the real world. Once people get the rewards for ranked it is up to them if they are sweaty enough to want to risk their ranks and keep playing to get the skins rewarded after the season ends. When it comes to Cryo and the ability of it being accessible during the week there are several things they need to do. 1. The current form of Cryo could be put on a 3 day rotation each week moving it to the next 3 days of the week each week so that everyone would have a chance to experience it as is, with the current weapon pool and power intact. This is the easiest "fix" for the short term that requires minimal dev. time. A far better long term option would be to allow Cryo to exist every day of the week giving the player base an option to enter at will. The way you balance it is making a loot cap on the gold and contraband items you get from cryo when you reach that cap those items can just stop dropping for that individual player but you can keep playing to get the lower rarity drops or farm money this would allow the map to stay active and be enjoyed while still keeping the most outrageous loot rare and allow them to keep it feeling imbalanced to a degree. 2. As far as solo players in my opinion there needs to be some changes in the devs. overal philosphy toward pve vs pvp and pvevp. Cryo in it's current form would not work for solos unless they limited the spawns to 4 players as cryo currently supports a total of 4 teams locked in each area at the start. Then they would have to nerf the adds appropriately to allow for said players to survive on the current ammo economy then they would have to balance it so that solos were not more lucrative than trios or people would do one over the other for a pure advantage. I have a better alternative for solos and single player queue as well as pve enjoyers. Cryo could have different forms to suit different play styles. Instead of 4 teams of competitors imagine if they allowed one squad of 6 to take on Cryo as a pve only map. They put full on raid or dungeon mechanics and put very challenging destiny 2 caliber bosses in each vault leading to a contest mode challenge with the final boss who would change from the current version of cryo. In fact since it is a different mode it should have an entirely different loot pool of weapons centered around PVE and killing pve enemies. To allow for the mechanics to ramp up the game could allow you to buy insurance tokens from the factions that would allow you to get an exact copy of your gear upon death and allow you to respawn at designated spots in PVE only maps, this would essentially function like the Destiny 2 token system except each person is responsible for farming their own quantity of extra lives. This would open the door to them putting field bosses or raid boss encouters on literally any map to switch things up whenever they wanted to give the community some fresh challenge. By changing the loot pool during these events and focusing the benefits of the loot pool to pve you prevent the pve players from farming weapons that are over powered for pvp play. For solo players the marathon ship needs a solo dedicated map and end game experience designed specifically for them. They could just remix cryo but in my opinion 4 maps with only a night and day cycle announced for season 2 is asking for people to jump off your game. The obvious answer is something destiny 2 has been asking for for years. Put forge mode into this game. Give the players and mod community the tools to design maps for the game curate them allow the community to vote and test them then go in and populate them with the npcs and boss fights. The guy that created the forge mode in Halo still works at Bungie from the last information I read online. This is the easiest dub in the history of gaming and as marathon is a much easier game to implement something like this into it should be a priority for the dev team. This would allow marathons potential to be literally infinite. Most of us have seen the guy who put a raid into halo...now imagine if a fan base of hungry bungie nerds had access to do that any time they wanted in marathon and make a variety of raids and dungeons or even exotic missions and pvp maps from any game recreated into marathon and all bungie would have to do is balance it after testing and decide the loot pool (if any depending on the mode) so that the economy wouldn't get busted. This is literally the easiest universal dub in gaming history. It's up to Bungie to take the win. A hungry player base with the tools could make a near infinite quantity of pvp pve and pvevp maps to enjoy for solo's duo's and 3 to 6 player teams....don't even get me started on if the assets to capture the flag or a warthog , tank or covenant like flying vehicle made their way into the maps.... Would you see people recreating Destiny 2 raids no longer in Destiny 2....yes.... Would you see bungie put skins for vehicle asset on the store and make millions...yes... Would we eventually get a recreation of ctf on bloodgulch...yes... Would we see a halo sword or light saber show up eventually...yes... Could a game that did all this eventually kill destiny 2..yes... Would I care...nope... Give me the fun...the game could evolve to be the PVP game with multiple modes from extraction to pve to monster hunter like field boss challenges to dungeon and raid specific content to whatever the community wanted it to be. Give us a truely next gen forge mode bungie and unlock the games true potential both from a gaming perspective and financially. Destiny 2 had it's day it is dying... let it go and go all in on the next generation. If you flesh this out the way I am envisioning this would be a license to print money and in a decade or so you can cycle back with Destiny 3. Half arsing it on 2 games is not how this should be played. Fortnight became what it is because the devs went all in on their new project they didn't say but what about our hardcore Unreal tournaments community...how will they feel about this? They pushed the red button, now they are competing with steam... Marathon devs need to expand their limited vision and embrace their potential this game has a great core base and concept give the players the keys to the engine and it would be firing on all cylinders. It is a license to print content and money and if you want this game to succede that is how you sell it to corporate.

  • Destiny with forger mode has way more potential than marathon, yet they've never done it. Dont expect them to do it with marathon

  • This would be a ways down the road development wise if it ever got implemented but they need to add a campaign, even if it’s just making new versions of the original marathon games. There’s too much lore in this universe to not invest more in the story and currently there’s not really all that much you can get of it by playing the game itself. If there’s two things currently true about Marathon, 1. Many of the people who haven’t bought it are turned off by how hardcore extraction shooters are (particularly this one), and 2. The current player base on Marathon seems to be loving the overall level of challenge when it comes to the pvp and pve. Obviously there’s things that need addressed like the fact that pretty much no one other than streamers are realistically even getting to the compiler but I’m referring more generally to basic moment to moment challenge. With these two things both being true, it seems like adding campaign would be a perfect way to grow your future casual player base appeal without watering down and ruining the experience a lot of players are really enjoying (the people who are currently the only ones currently invested). If Destiny’s history is any indication, you can’t survive without a healthy player base of casual, and hardcore players. You can always add extra tournaments or events that appeal to hardcore players, but if you don’t add more for casuals the game will die off before long. Obviously the game probably needs more than just a campaign to attract players, but a well done campaign seems like a great place to start.

You CAN derank... but you retain credit for the maximum rank achieved. Meaning once you hit the rank you want, no risk but your loot after. So, no endgame? Make Marathon AR? And there's no reason for Forge in Marathon. You think they'll let people create loot farms? No? Then Forge is literally a loot and money sync? Or is there no penalty? You can't lose your loot. Why would people play per the core experience and systems of progression? They wouldn't. The game can and will get better. Not like this. The game will become more accessible. But not by changing the game's core drivers completely. 😇👍💠
