  • At the very least, marijuana should be legalized. There's plenty enough solid research to show it's significantly less harmful than alcohol, nicotine, and tobacco. Other drugs that are considered more extreme I personally don't know enough about to be sure. I've heard that stuff like shrooms and acid have virtually no harmful effects but I can't be sure. If there's enough credible research to prove so, then I don't see why not.

    • There’s way too big of a difference between them all to justify legalising every single one. Weed =/= heroin Weed probably should be legalised as countries with it legalised show no problems with it. Heroin on the other hand should never be legalised and anyone using it should be taken into hospital and treated instead of thrown in a jail cell

      • Legal or illegal - it doesn’t make a difference. People have been, drinking, smoking, injecting, eating and snorting stuff since the first cave man thought “I wonder what that funny looking mushroom tastes like”. Governments have a choice. If they ban a drug it doesn’t stop it. It just drives it underground. It puts the production of that drug in the hands of criminals. It also removes the ability to regulate the safety of that drug - potency, quality, distribution, etc. The other option is to make it legal (like alcohol). This allows government to regulate and control the production and sale of the drug. It allows them to restrict who makes it and how it’s made. Prohibition doesn’t work. It never has. So as unpalatable as it may seem to some, the only other option is regulation.

I’m torn. I’m all for people being free to do what they want in the privacy of their own home. At the same time I’ve seen how addiction effects the friends and families of users. I’ve also worked in a hospital for over 16 years and have taken care of many users in all stages, from being hooked, withdraw, overdose, and death. (Edit: And it’s nothing like the after school specials they showed us in school) Marijuana I think should be made leave though. A lot of the meds we use could be replaced with or derived from it.

        • That is a two sided knife really. On one hand legalisation would mean less drug related crimes and it also makes it easier to get help with drug addiction. On the other hand it makes it easier to get your hands on drugs so it might create more addicts and make it easier for minors to get.

Drugs that are natural (Mushrooms and Weed for example) should be legal so that they can be regulated to keep the drugs safe. If we can reduce the amount of harmful drugs in the streets by keeping bad strands of the two drugs I mentioned regulated to non harmful levels then we should.

          • ... I don't think everything should be legalized, but I do think that instead of immediate jail users of meth/heroin/cocaine etc, should have to go to mandatory rehab, I also think drug dealers should get the death penalty because they're basically murderers anyways... So in the past I’ve been completely against drugs (unless medically prescribed ones to deal with problems) but I’ve seen that they are very helpful with certain problems and conditions. As long as it’s regulated, controlled and only legal through prescription, cool. And offer rehabilitation to those who are sufferers of addiction, not prison sentences or ridicule.

I don’t believe everything should be legalized. But I do believe everything should be decriminalized. Drug addiction should be treated as a medical issue, not a legal one. Put people in hospitals, not cages. Give people help, not punishment. Educate our youth on the facts associated with drug use instead of throwing 70 year old propaganda at them. And give addicts more avenues to turn their lives around without the threat and embarrassment that comes with a prison record. To improve a society, you have to actually give a shit about the people within it. And genuinely want to see them all prosper. Even the ones who made bad decisions.

              • Anything that can be used for medicinal purposes (weed, and I believe LSD does have some merit as an antidepressant, not 100% sure), sure. Stuff like meth and heroin... No, don't jail people who use, instead giving them rehab, but it shouldn't be legal.

              • Legalize it all then deny healthcare to those that overdose. Natural selection.

                • Nah. I've seen the effects that drugs have and it's not something I think people should be getting into. It's a very slippery slope because once you start, it's hard to turn back from it

                • You’re never going to get rid of the demand so you may as well provide relatively safe options for people to use.

Legalize it all and tax the hell out of it. Expect a massive increase in urinalysis testing, both before and during employment (it's not an approval thing, it's a safety thing). Allow health insurance providers to charge more (or opt out completely) for coverage of recreational drug users and limit liability for hospitals treating recreational drug related overdoses. Increase the severity of DUI penalties and reduce the second (and third, fourth, fifth and sixth) chances that drivers get. Lifetime license revocation should be on the board.

                • I say legalize them all, maybe for like a year. And just kinda see what happens. I'm fairly certain that it would be pretty devastating for the illegal enterprises.
