The Last Word.......on why I am leaving Destiny
I am an older casual gamer who does not have the time or inclination to spend practising PVP against younger people who have better reflexes and skills than I will possibly ever have. I am OK with this, I do not even mind having 0.5 KD - yes, that is really how bad I am. I do not mind grinding out Crucible kills to further my progression and farm exotics, even though this probably takes me considerably longer than the average player. The long and the short of it is that I have no issue working towards something. I even think that making something difficult to get is good as it gives players a sense of achievement once it is accomplished and keeps most people interested in the game.
What I do have an issue with is being "punished" because I am not that good.
Today I decided to spend the afternoon farming Crucible to see how far I could get "The Temptation" quest step - 4 hours later I am on 3%. I peaked at 33%.............
To me this is not fun at all, or feel like I am making any sort of progress and is the sole reason why I will no longer be supporting this game. I have played since D2 started, always bought the collectors editions, season passes etc. because my philosophy has always been to support games that I enjoy (I purchased every Prime pack in Warframe up until I stopped playing it - to come play D2 ironically) and have gladly spent cash on cosmetics etc in D2 to help support it.
I am pretty sure you could give 2 hoots about the opinion of a single player, and probably care even less if you lose my couple £ per year, but I am just as sure that there are other people like me out there who have also stopped supporting this game because of this exact reason and if you keep alienating players you will eventually be left with none, and to be honest that would be really sad as I have always thought this could be a great game (even through "Curse".......)

I think some people have missed my point. I actually enjoy being able to work towards something (PVE or PVP although I am more PVE to be honest) - I do not like to feel discriminated against because I am not as good at something. By the very nature of PVP it will take a player like me a lot longer to get any PVP achievements or rewards. I have no issue with that, but by adding in the negative aspect on the amount of times I will die, makes it no fun for me. Bungie have just chosen to ignore the type of gamer I am which is why I will find another game to spend my hard earned cash on. Its just sad for me because I really enjoy D2.
You don't have to agree, that's why its called an opinion. You can also chose to be a dick in expressing yours, that's your right.

Just would like to say thank you to all who had constructive feedback even if you do not agree with me, and I am amazed at how much of a response this post has received. Its the positive people like you who make this community one of the better ones.
Just understand this was written from a place of huge frustration with I game I absolutely love. I really do not want to be handed everything, working for rewards brings a sense of achievement from a hobby that people should be enjoying, and this specific mechanism (for me at least) took what should have been a fun Saturday afternoon and basically made it not fun. Farming AoS took me weeks because getting headshots in Crucible was difficult for me, but I never felt like I was being punished for not being good at PVP. This mechanic does make me feel that way.
I still firmly believe that Bungie could do better with these mechanics, I mean there are some really talented people working there right? I don't think it would be that difficult for them to appeal to a much wider audience and at the end of the day the more people that play your game the more successful you are!
The fundamental drive behind playing looter shooters is to get loot, so for me it would make sense to allow all the Exotics to be acquired via some sort of story driven quest at a base level - then offer appearances and upgrades/catalysts to people who are willing/able to farm the RAIDS or are hardcore PVP'ers as I think that would be way more rewarding for everyone. Maybe I am wrong, but once again, just an opinion.

As someone who hates Crucible, I feel your pain. And yeah, TLW is primarily a PvP weapon, but a lot of PvEers are still going to want it, so it sucks to get thrown to the lions. With that being said-- I think the important thing with the PvP steps of the TLW quest is to change up how you play. If your k/d percentage is low, you're probably used to running into rooms and getting shot up (I know I was). Since assists count like kills, your best bet is to always stick with your team, and try not to be the first person into an encounter. You also apparently get more points the longer your kill/assist streak goes, so being careful is by far the best way to rack up a good score. Getting killed is obviously going to happen, but you'll want to try to make sure you at least nicked the person who killed you, and hopefully your teammate will finish the job for you. If you can't get randoms to stay in a team with you, you may want to try the Fireteam function here or in your clan (if you have one). My k/d was probably around yours before I started this quest, but I had much more success than usual when I stuck with that gameplan, and I didn't lose percentage after any of my matches (which was luckily since I was always with randoms).

I feel you man my K/d is .71 overall which sucks, I played mayhem and used blade barrage even though I main a warlock to get past that shit and even that took me like 20 F'ing games

You do realize they just had mayhem available? You could've literally just hid and waited for your super, go out and get a couple of kills and then hide again until you get your super. Rinse and repeat. Easily get more kills then deaths every single game.

I just did the first step today. No easy lobbies for me, took 7 matches total, and one of those I had an absolute howler of a game where I couldnt do anything right. Best advice I can give is tail your teammates, shoot what they shoot, play careful. If you're hurt, fall back and hope a teammate cleans up - you'll still get the credit. Run a rocket launcher and a super that makes a big boom - multikills give a load of progress.

Is it not hypocritical that many people here effortlessly got The Last Word and then condemn others claiming they want everything as a participation trophy? If achieving something takes no struggle than it is a participation trophy indeed. The thing is crucible is slanted to empower those who don't need the advantage and they get all the special elite weapons to overwhelm everyone else. Let's call it how it really is, some of those who have the hardest to get crucible weapons relish the thought that they have something others can't get, nothing more. If I was the one calling the shots here the temptation step would of been a flat 1,000 kills in crucible. Then the skilled would still get it day one, the average players would get it in a week or so, everyone else would get it eventually, and that would of drawn in more people to the crucible for a longer duration since the grind is supposed to be the endgame anyway.

Don't give up, try and find a group to help you. Cool guy has some great tips on improving your kd. Like this https://youtu.be/74e3mByi0d0 I find that when I played recklessly I had a poor kd. But playing conservative, only going for 1vs1s or flanking, and not trying to take on 2 players unless I had heavy or a rapid fire shotgun played dividends. My kd is creeping up. Play slow and steady, stay with team mates, and let others go first to draw fire, you will get there!

Assists count! You don't need to get the actual kill. Just play really defensive, stick with teammates, use mid to long range weapons like pulses and scouts. Just hit the enemy with one bullet and hide. ;) But why do you want the Last Word anyway? It's a horrible PvE weapon.

Honestly you couldn't have been more handicapped than I am. However I come from a fighting games background, and the mindset of actually striving to improve as a player helps a lot. This is clear that the two worlds are collapsing in these topics: 1. The ones who just want to casually play and not have their progress reverted. Play an hour after work, advance the quest 5% and be happy to return and advance it the next day or a couple of days later. Anything locked behind crucible is painful for those folks as being good at killing other people requires hours of training and dedication. 2. The ones who say that gamers nowadays are too entitled and that you have to strive to improve your mechanical skills as a player to be able to advance in certain things. This bunch usually has more time on their hand and therefore have better aim. And I bet that every time they 2-tap with Luna it puts a smile on their face. I find myself leaning to the second camp. But each and every time I see Luna's Howl / Wardcliff / OEM in Quickplay, I die inside a bit. But that's another conversation. Coming back to TLW: as long as you play to your advantages and use the mid-long range loadout and [b]watch your radar[/b] to avoid shotgunners, the TLW is more than doable. It took me around 8 games to get one, using a pulse/sidearm loadout.

I am sorry for your shit time in crucible. I am a shit player and I got it done in 7 matches. the crucible steps are good, seeing that its a crucible weapon, so the weapon would mean nothing to you, if you are not that good in crucible, yet being fun to use, and good at countering shotties in most circumstances; it is not without its problems, and flaws. Bloom is ridiculous on this weapon, crit registration is pretty shitty its a body shot melt if you can get it to work. other than that, you are not missing a lot my friend. Crucible is crucible. - you have your good days and bad days, if you are on XBOX - hit me up - i can help if you want. like I said, 7 matches of quick play I had mine done, and about 8 matches of Mayhem did my medals. if you don't enjoy the game anymore there is no reason to stick around.

No i cant relate to your post because pvp isnt this insurmountable challenge i cant overcome, im far from being amazing at pvp but i realize that getting a couple kills is no challenge for any competent person,this game has such a low skill ceiling that this quest is pretty much just a time commitment. If you cant go into pvp and complete this quest you simply dont deserve it, its just that -blam!-ing simple. I can already see the comments "oh youre just an entitled elitist, this is just my opinion" , having an opinion is fine but when you come onto these forums with a pity post talking about how youre gonna leave hoping bungie will see it and be like "here you go little guy, you get a pass on this quest , let us kiss your boo boo, please stay" then that shit becomes an issue. I remember hopping to CoD for the first time years ago and i got destroyed time and time again going negative , but i wanted to get better so instead of finding something to complain about i took the time to learn how to get better and with time i started finishing matches with a positive K/D. That wasnt a result of a -blam!-ing wish granting dragon or that i was born some FPS god it was just simple practice. If you play the game as much as you say you do i dont understand how you cant manage to complete this quest when bungie even threw you the bone of counting assists. Even if you just played pve you would get down the feel of the game and would naturally get better. I can guarantee that youre the type of player that runs out into the middle of the map by yourself with a bow and then complain about how you got picked off by the other team, or youll sit in corners all game long and call bullshit when you dont get any kills. You load into crucible as a hunter with celestial nighthawk and sweet business and wonder why youre not going positive. Youre never to blame tho right? God forbid you use your brain a little and play strategically... I can think of so many ways i couldve completed this quest in an easier way, i couldve loaded into mayhem with a golden gun hunter last week and got essentially free kills, i could farm heavy during matches and hug my teamates, i could run the basic no effort loadouts that people run i.e. Wardcliff, dusk rock blues, stompees. The ridiculous part is that the last word is really only viable in crucible so why do you people even care? You all just want to guilt bungie into watering down another quest just so that you can get a gun that youll vault within the hour. I would understand if this some kind of intense hardcore pvp quest but its literally just play -blam!-ing crucible and youll naturally make progress towards it thats it and you people still cant hang lmao. But what do i know? im just some elitist hater right?

Here we go again. You are not quitting because Bungie f*cked up, you quitting because deep inside you know, you are bad for a big part of this game. Right now I am trying to get luna's howl. And you know what, I am not bad at pvp, I am actually take 1-2 places. But still deanked a lot. My teammates were bad and I lost no matter how good my score was. So I started adapting. I found peoples who play good, I spent more time on warm ups and you know what? I goes from 600 to 1680 in several days. I did smthing to change situation. But you just decided to give up. That's now right way man.

I think the quest is fine, you don´t need kills, assists works fine. Just run behind bluberrys and team shoot. PM me if you want me to finsh the quest for you.

I see you mostly play warlock and hunter which are classes that require skill, timing, and a lot of primary weapon skill. I'm not sure it's possible to fall beneath a 1.0 kdr with a titan. That said, while it's nice to complete the quest the last word is really not a weapon that will benefit you. You cannot... On console anyway, fire this weapon ads, you have to shoot from the hip. Really hand cannons as a whole are in a bad place on console, you're either good with them or you're trash with them but there's nothing between... Being fully honest... The last word is the only hand cannot I can use in pvp.... All the others I suck with.
