I just don't get it. We all know the problems that Destiny has had since launch. We all have seen Bungie mishandle and bungle way too many game decisions.
-Criticism is not bad.
-Holding Bungie to higher standards than other game companies because of their history is not unreasonable.
But at some point there's a line when it stops being about trying to better the game and complaining just to complain.
I was reading Google News and a GI article popped up saying Sparrow Racing announced as a special limited-time December event and I hopped over to the forums expecting to find celebratory posts...
And instead there are people crapping all over it.
Why isn't it Cabal dlc??!!

No one asked for this!!!

rip Destiny!
First of all, Sparrow Racing was probably the first requested add-on when the beta dropped. Beyond that, how many thousands of posts ask for other special events besides IB to participate in?
Last month we had the Festival of the Lost. This month Sparrow Racing. Are they fixing all that still ails the game? No, but they're not making it worse either.
For all the pissing and moaning about lack of content, the fact that people just want to crap on it when they get it just makes you wonder if there's anything that would make them happy.
If you hate the game that much, I'm sorry. But it doesn't mean you have to take your hatred into every post that shows excitement about new content.
Edit: For all the complaints about it being a limited time event, couple things.
1) it is most likely a test run to work out all the kinks.
If it's successful and smooth it could very well become a regular mode.
2) it could be great as a monthly week long event like IB going forward.
I've felt for a long time there should be a weekly event every week alternating PvP/PvE. This could be one such.

1 ReplyGood post Sols. Personally I took a break from the forums for about a week and came back to see more hate than ever. I don't get it. Most people for the first year of destiny were constantly asking for sparrow races and now there getting them they won't shut up about how bad they are.
-
1 ReplyEdited by TheZapped: 12/6/2015 5:11:29 AMI wouldn't say that I I'm crapping on it when I express a small degree of disappointment. I'm actually glad that it's part of the game - its something the community asked for and introduces something new to destiny (even if its only for 3 weeks) Disappointing part however is the fact that it is a limited time event rather than a permanently available game mode packaged as part of a larger expansion (something that I suspect the community wanted to hear about more) Sure the community got something they asked for, but not in the way they wanted it.
-
2 RepliesLet'em bitch, they're going to anyway. Bungie could give out free un-nerfed yr2 ghorns and people would find a reason to complain about it. I for one, am -blam!-ing stoked, and I hate racing games.
-
2 RepliesPreach brother! Preach! Was very happy when I just saw this in the news, then hop over to the forums and just see all the trolls just shitting on it yo.. If you don't like the game just go away man seriously.. All this trolling is just getting really old, really fast.
-
1 ReplyAgreed. Wtf is wrong with this community? It's like people have forgotten the days where once you ran out of lives you started back at the very beginning. They want games to play themselves, they want games made specifically for them and their exact needs. It's stupid.
-
Very nice. Fully agree. The voting system should be implemented for all posts and replies. If they get enough down votes, they are removed. Then those of us who actually care can clean up the forums, one useless negative whiner post after another. And can't wait to race!
-
5 RepliesI agree. I'm the first to jump down Bungie's throat when they make stupid decisions or announce a new progression system that takes one step forward and two steps back but this response is really silly. The only arguments I see about this that are valid are the ones against microtransactions in lieu of earning content through playing the game. Which is a valid argument and I agree with it in general but this is just how video games work in this gen apparently and compared to a lot of other games tess isn't nearly as vicious about microtransactions as she could (and hopefully won't) be. Even then if what cozmo's tweets say are true the tess sparrows will only be as good as the first stage rare red bull sparrow which is approximately only as good as a rare sparrow you buy from the vendors. Unless you are an absolutely new player who has never played either raid or earned enough marks to buy a sparrow and upgrade it through xur this is not pay to win. And yeah I'm hoping that after this event that they bring it back as a monthly event like iron banner, thereby giving us trials every weekend, sparrow racing say at the beginning of the month, and iron banner toward the end of the month. I'm excited about the idea of a hellmouth run starting from the surface of the moon, going all the way down around the hellmouth and maybe ending with a plummet into the pit. A Vault Run could also be incredible.

Well done, my friend. Trolls in this forum are like cancer.
-
Well said. While I was hoping for a new DLC announcement, I'm happy with the sparrow racing. Now I can show off my horrible sparrow skills. They're almost as bad as my jumping skills. As for the people who complain about not being able to play without the TTK, really? These must people who think everything should be free and that Bungie employees shouldn't get paid. Instead everyone should just work for free so we can enjoy endless hours of entertainment without paying for it. I'm sure these same people will expect to be playing free content 5 years down the road too.
-
I believe it's because it's not free to all Destiny players: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/178271745/0/0 You must have TTK and people, many people, still have a nasty taste in their mouth's towards destiny. The smartest thing they could've done was make this free for all Destiny players from December 8-26. The next time it comes back it could be for only TTK players. Anyway, hope this game mode will maybe entice bungee to add in first person sparrow driving in Destiny. That's really all I see this new game mode missing from in looking from the outside in (:

Bump!! It's just that they should make more content for all the money they get but it's true they should be loved more

4 RepliesEdited by The 7th fall: 12/6/2015 4:16:19 PMIt's not necessarily that the community is ungrateful -a lot of us I hope-, its that Bungie has turned this community into people that want to find something bad to say or complain about with regards to Destiny. I could make a long list as to why a lot of us treat this game so negatively, but you already know why Sols, as do a lot of us as well. To say the short version of the list: Bungie is definitely not the company it once was that brought us HALO, birthing one of the greatest sci-fi FPS games to date. I myself do like this Sparrow event, but my gripe about it is that it's a limited time event... if it stayed as a feature, but came up with different gear per racing season or month, then I'd be hopping back on to Destiny and encouraging friends to do so too. However since the gear is just cosmetically different -I admit the gear looks cool- and no doubt has the same rolls you can get for armor now, it's not all that worth it to me. Not to mention it'll all likely be around 280-290 light per armor part, I'm bored of the slow a** light level grind of Destiny as it is. Bungie is taking a step in the right direction with introducing genuinely new content, but then the two steps back is that it's limited time... though that brings this question: Will it be like Iron Lagger and pop up every month or two? If it's a reoccurring event then my earlier complaint about it not stayiing is mute.

This so deserves a bump.
-
1 ReplyAgreed! Some people you can never make happy because they thrived on negativity
-
1 ReplyJust this one time you made a post I completely agree with ! Bravo ;)

2 RepliesPurple sparrow needs nerfing. First!!

1 ReplyEdited by TRDoug: 12/6/2015 1:01:47 PMI'm excited, first time in a while I'm excited for a Tuesday. Sad it's only three weeks though. I know it's them testing the waters but it's Christmas, kids are off two weeks of it and iron banner is coming. Why couldn't they drop it before or after the holidays, and during the weeks there's no banner?
-
2 RepliesYep, this is the first iteration of PvE and PvP in Destiny. Hope people can see this Sparrow Racing in that light. Bump to you, good sir.
-
4 RepliesI love the idea of sparrow racing, I already did it with friends on certain maps lol. when I saw yesterdays news about the event I thought it was awesome. since then I have heard that it is not supported on last gen consoles, which sucks because I have a PS3.............Joy turned to dismay, again.

2 RepliesI think DeeJ has a gun to his head guys..

Edited by EetnoAni: 12/6/2015 2:08:13 PMAt this point, Bungie has themselvesin a deep dark pit. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. I'm glad they added something much of the community asked for ages ago. Another step in the right direction! It also gives us something to do with these largely useless sparrows! I'll give kudos on this one. I ended my six week hiatus from TTK with an attempt at sisters and some grind in rumble to get a sword quest done. Gunplay is still awesome, finding raid groups still a PITA, and crucible lag is still glaring... On the other hand I did have fun ruining my kd attempting to beat people down with a sword hilt...

1) bungie talked about this way before this, the sparrow upgrades (as few and lame as they were) had always been there, if im not mistaken this this was talked about back in the time of the E3 2013 (either leaked from beta or the E3 itself, don't quite remember) 2) this one i dont know how much truth it has and i quote "Some vehicles and gear shown only available by purchase in-game though Eververse store...." saw it in one of the videos but neither can i find it i short notice nor do i know how legit that is... so....
-
2 RepliesI have one issue with it. Why it is not permanent?
-
Hello again
-
Agreed I may hate the loot system and the rng system but that does not mean I hate all of the game this looks to be fun I wonder if there me boost areas or a boost metre where doing tricks fills it up lol like ssx tricky. I would love to see a pve event come back but does this mean there's no iron banner over Christmas?
-
7 RepliesPeople forget that once they ask for something it takes time for Bungie to make. we can all see by the trailer that these races weren't just slop and reused content but something fresh. What I think everyone dislikes is the face that it's been 3 months since the release of the taken King and a big dlc with guns and a raid. what everyone is forgetting is that it takes TIME to make a raid, so Bungie, instead of leaving us in the dark replaying strikes or just jumping on for resets they're giving us sparrow races. My only dislike is that there is only 2 courses and this leads me to believe the overall community will say they dislike sparrow races because they're too repetitive. What could they have done better? •added and extra race track or 2 • make the event 1-2 weeks long to lessen repetition I'll probably have more to dislike or maybe not.
