You want to nerf Sunbreaker?

So many on these forums are already crying for a nerf to the [i]only[/i] Crucible viable sub-class Titans have. The operative word here is [i]already[/i] - you know why that is? It's been a [i]week[/i] since Sunbreaker has been released, and now we have all the self-proclaimed PvP experts pouring in to tell us in their self-righteous tones that Hammer of Sol is [i]over-powered[/i]. A week was all it took for a few Hunters to decide they didn't like this new contender to the Crucible throne - before, they had little competition, but now, a [i]week[/i] after Hammer of Sol arrived, they've decided they've had enough. Remember when the Arc Blade insignia would flood your kill-feed game after game, indicating to you that some unstoppable Bladedancer was wreaking havoc on hapless victims for [i]fifteen[/i] seconds straight? Remember when the Golden Gun icon would pop up in the bottom left corner of your screen faster than you could track it? Now, Hammer of Sol is doing the [i]same thing[/i] and all of a sudden it's [i]not[/i] okay? Why was it okay for Bladedancers and Gunslingers to slaughter entire teams, but not so for Sunbreakers? Bungie, I ask that you don't take to heart what this group of spiteful Hunters has to say - they are bitter and have no interest in balance, they seek only to keep themselves at the top of the food chain and appeasing them would do more harm than good. They propose reductions to health, Hammers, and Armor - the things that are the very essence of the Sunbreaker. Changes to these aspects of the Sunbreaker would ruin the sub-class, and for that reason I ask you to [i]not[/i] listen to them, but to [i]me[/i]. The aspect of the Sunbreaker that skews the Crucible in his favor is [i]time[/i] - we are given twenty-five seconds to roam around the map to do as much damage as possible. I must say that is a bit much. A plausible change would be to reduce the time from twenty-five seconds to twenty - amplifying the sense of urgency while Hammer of Sol is active. This would also make it easier for bystanders to stall it out, which is already a [i]very[/i] viable tactic for surviving Sunbreaker onslaughts. That would be the [i]perfect[/i] resolution to everyone's problems. Do not reduce damage resistance. Do not reduce number of Hammers thrown. By reducing time, you would raise the level of skill needed to properly handle Hammer of Sol, seeing as right now it is [i]very[/i] forgiving of user error and can turn even the scrubbiest into slayers. Please, Bungie, don't ruin the greatest gift you've given us such a short time after we received it. [b]MODEST PROPOSAL:[/b] [b]Since everyone's greatest gripe seems to be the high damage resistance in combination with the healing factor, I'm going to suggest something. Eliminate Cauterize and replace it with a perk that enhances damage resistance, something like the following:[/b] [b]Fire Forged: Enemies brought down by your fire grant you ten percent damage resistance. Stacks up to three times.[/b] With this in Cauterize's place, opposing Guardians wouldn't have to worry about a Sunbreaker's health replenishing after each kill, making it that much easier to bring him down. The armor boost would make the Sunbreaker tough, but not invulnerable. Thank you for listening. If you have any suggestions other than the knee-jerk Armor and hammer reduction, please feel free to share.

        • The whole basis to their argument is that "oh my god I can't shut down this person using their super, such high armor and so many hammers blah blah". Its like they all forgot its a super or something :/ you shouldn't be able to just shut someone down easily when they're in super. And that's besides the point that a single shadowshot can shut down and tether the breaker, I've done it to titans and had it personally had it happen to me quite a few times. And for PvE it isnt really godly either, I mean it's a good subclass for sure but its not by any means the best of any. If they nerf the class too much to appease all of these whining crucible scrubs then they're most likely going to ruin the class for PvE

            • Arc Blade was so easy to counter, just snipe em' in the head, or shotgun/melee, or fusion/melee.... Titans said that was op LOL!!!

              • No need to dwell on the past, we play in the future. The sun-breaker class is op to all except Titians. In terms of offense who has the best super now? In terms of tanks or ability to take the most damage who would it be? What super has the longest duration while using it? What class dishes out the most one shot kills? The Titian also had the ability to regen health immediately after a kill, wouldn't be a problem if the defense wasn't so high. Now does it need a huge nerf? No, I think we should take the recovery of health down by a lot while the super is activated. This alone would bring it to a level pvp playing field. Anyone else having comments on this feel free to give me your opinion. I'm curios what you think they should do to nerf it.

                  • Meh, the stats will speak for themselves. If Sunbreakers are absolutely owning pvp, then Bungie is more likely to do something about it. All this talk about it being OP (along with Titans' other supers being fairly underwhelming) is making the crucible into a hammerfest. I'll probably jump on board too because it looks like fun. Mayhem is a blast and that is only going to skew the statistics even more. It seemed like over half the people playing last night were Sunbreakers along with a few voidwalkers and stormcasters. Is there a hunter boycott going on or something?

                      • I love all classes but to be fair blade dances can't cross map you ether. It's not a aoe attack. And they can be one hit by all supers. I know no one what's to listen but it does need a lil need and it's gonna happen just accept it HoS will still be strong as -blam!- but something has to give

                      • I like your ideas, I just feel like all supers should be able to counter each other. Stormtrance vs Sunbreaker, and even a semi competent Sunbreaker can take them down easily. A gunslinger can't one shot? Like really? Damn. Defender, well.. You know. Control. In control I love it. I play all 3 classes although I do main Hunter. Bladedancer's can usually be taken out by shotguns done right js. Not at release, but these days.

                        • The only overpowered thing about sun breakers are that it takes two shots with a high impact sniper and 2 GG shots. If they gotta little less health while in the super, sunbreakers wouldn't be OP. I think they're overpowered but I also don't think it's necessary to make every single forum post about them. Obviously bungie has seen the other 7000 posts about them, there's no need to keep bïtching about it because you got killed by a hammer of sol in the crucible. I come to these forums for entertainment and learn things about the game, not for every other post to be NERF SUNBREAKERS! or I QUIT DESTINY UNTIL SUNBREAKERS GET NERFED!

                            • Honestly tho...if there was nothing wrong with the hammer then why would it upset this many people regardless of their reason. I really don't care Wat happens to the hammer as far as nerfing goes cuz no one likes to get supered in the 1st place

                              • Add damage drop-off to the hammer so it remains good close quarters but golden gun outdoes it by range. Possibly a one hit head shot with a high impact sniper but make the headbox smaller as Titans are the easiest to snipe. End of argument IMO.

                              • Here comes the Titan waaaaaaamulance...... I play as all three classes since launch. Sunbreaker is OP. Tons of fun to use but OP. I could admit bladedancer was OP when that was OP too..... Because I'm an adult who cares about balance not having OP toys.

                                • No, hunters had no defense at all + during our super animation anyone could kill us due to our low armor. Titans have a higher armor build, instant kill melee, and range attacks making them over powered while hunters don't have little to no armor.
