You want to nerf Sunbreaker?

So many on these forums are already crying for a nerf to the only Crucible viable sub-class Titans have. The operative word here is already - you know why that is? It's been a week since Sunbreaker has been released, and now we have all the self-proclaimed PvP experts pouring in to tell us in their self-righteous tones that Hammer of Sol is over-powered. A week was all it took for a few Hunters to decide they didn't like this new contender to the Crucible throne - before, they had little competition, but now, a week after Hammer of Sol arrived, they've decided they've had enough. Remember when the Arc Blade insignia would flood your kill-feed game after game, indicating to you that some unstoppable Bladedancer was wreaking havoc on hapless victims for fifteen seconds straight? Remember when the Golden Gun icon would pop up in the bottom left corner of your screen faster than you could track it? Now, Hammer of Sol is doing the same thing and all of a sudden it's not okay? Why was it okay for Bladedancers and Gunslingers to slaughter entire teams, but not so for Sunbreakers? Bungie, I ask that you don't take to heart what this group of spiteful Hunters has to say - they are bitter and have no interest in balance, they seek only to keep themselves at the top of the food chain and appeasing them would do more harm than good. They propose reductions to health, Hammers, and Armor - the things that are the very essence of the Sunbreaker. Changes to these aspects of the Sunbreaker would ruin the sub-class, and for that reason I ask you to not listen to them, but to me. The aspect of the Sunbreaker that skews the Crucible in his favor is time - we are given twenty-five seconds to roam around the map to do as much damage as possible. I must say that is a bit much. A plausible change would be to reduce the time from twenty-five seconds to twenty - amplifying the sense of urgency while Hammer of Sol is active. This would also make it easier for bystanders to stall it out, which is already a very viable tactic for surviving Sunbreaker onslaughts. That would be the perfect resolution to everyone's problems. Do not reduce damage resistance. Do not reduce number of Hammers thrown. By reducing time, you would raise the level of skill needed to properly handle Hammer of Sol, seeing as right now it is very forgiving of user error and can turn even the scrubbiest into slayers. Please, Bungie, don't ruin the greatest gift you've given us such a short time after we received it. MODEST PROPOSAL: Since everyone's greatest gripe seems to be the high damage resistance in combination with the healing factor, I'm going to suggest something. Eliminate Cauterize and replace it with a perk that enhances damage resistance, something like the following: Fire Forged: Enemies brought down by your fire grant you ten percent damage resistance. Stacks up to three times. With this in Cauterize's place, opposing Guardians wouldn't have to worry about a Sunbreaker's health replenishing after each kill, making it that much easier to bring him down. The armor boost would make the Sunbreaker tough, but not invulnerable. Thank you for listening. If you have any suggestions other than the knee-jerk Armor and hammer reduction, please feel free to share.

Golden gun-no damage reduction huge range Arc blade- little range moderate damage reduction Hammer of sol- huge range huge damage reduction. You can i shot an arc blade with a mid impact sniper you cant one shot a hammer of sol with a mid impact sniper. Let hate commence. Im sure some tough guy is gonna call me a scrub. ;)

    • Some of the best titans I know are a beast with the Defender or Striker subs. Nightstalker is a great counter to Sunbreaker FYI my fellow Hunters. Put 3 shot and invisi-nades on and you can deal with just about anything.

If they have to nerf Hammer of Sol, I'd propose these changes: -remove the tracking and replace with a different, equally worthwhile perk. -reduce the hammer throw rate to punish missing but increase duration (in order to not reduce the number of hammers thrown), and increase dmg against minions of the Darkness

      • Hunters have a major drawback to each of their pvp classes. With golden gun, it's three and done (unless you're still using aclyophage symbiote, so four). Plus you need dead accuracy, so if your foe dances like a fairy, they can completely kill your super. And with bladedancer, your major drawback is the point blank distance you have to be in order be effective. One shotgun blast and the bladedancer is dead. And you can try and argue they have arc wave, but that so incredibly easy to dodge, and it doesn't follow you around like a hammer can, and it doesn't deal AoE damage like a hammer. Hammers have range, seek their targets, overload your armor, and you generally get a helluva lot more hammers per super than a gunslinger. I'm all for hammers, but a true solution would be to increase the amount of super each hammer uses, so you only get a maximum of 3 or 4 throws. It really ought to be used more as a close quarters melee piece of destruction, and they should be penalized more if they have to resort to throwing their hammers.

I cannot see them nerfing the Sunbreaker super. If the subclass had something else. For example, Huntards Bladedancer has more than just a super... invisible... etc. They are not nerfing it. Lol. Also, the game stats do not support a nerf. Sunbreaker is great in mayhem with increased super regeneration but this is one game type of many. It would be insane to nerf a super based on this...

              • As a Sunbreaker I've gotten killed plenty, and I mean PLENTY of times of times by other supers. Especially by Gunslingers, Stormtracers, the void super that the hunter has which I can't remember right now, and rocket launchers... So let's stop the bullshit complaining and get better at the game or give yourself a break, because you just might be suffering from Destiny stasis.

              • . Stackable damage reduction up to 3X. So they would go from 55% to 85%? Is that a joke?

                  • Nice idea, but 10% is far too much. After all, it has 5% more than other supers right now. Maybe 2.5%?

                    • Shit idea. All they need to do is nerf the damage resistance twice like they did to blade dancer and it will be fine. Titans give me your tears

                    • No one has a problem with kill power it's a super. People have a problem with not being able to challenge at all with golden gun or a ldr impact level sniper the armor needs maybe a 10 percent nerf

                    • *shoots one thorn shot* *pulls shotgun out* *Snipes Bladedancer out of air* Your move. Blade dancer in competitive play, A.K.A "sweaties" was a joke... a distraction a best. There is no way to effectively take down a Sunbreaker, as there was with a blade dancer, as its blade dancer with more health and range. Anyone saying Sunbreaker is not overpowered is clueless, as there are trade offs with every single super and class except with this one.

                      • I main a warlock and i have to say i have no problem with sunbreakers. Everything in their skill tree is based on the super. I got 2 phantoms in 2 games yesterday with only 1 stormtrance. Never would be able to do that with my titan. It depends on how good you play with your class .

                      • I do hope that we view the entire subclass and not just the super. First of all, I love the hammer and I am cautiously biased towards the overpowered side. However, there is more than just hammer. My sunbreaker grenades are pathetic compared to almost every other subclass. I would do some dishonorable stuff to get a flashbang or magnetic grenade. For a tripmine? I hope my mom isn't watching. Also, the sun breaker punch has interesting but not extraordinary options. The debuff punch is showing promise for a quick double punch. Cauterize is by far one of the best perks in this game. I would take this on any class under almost any circumstance. It may be a major part of the potential sunbreaker menace. However, sunbreaker is not blinking. Not tripmining my ammo box (behind the box). Not throwing knives at me. Not turning invisible. Not locking onto me with its melee from a distance. Not throwing as many grenades as they can hammers (sunsinger plus fusion grenades is strangely sunbreaker like). Not coming back from the dead. Not throwing grenades that follow me. Not blinding me. Not getting an overshield because they hit me from a distance. No class has it all. Sunbreaker gets what may be the strongest super in the game, but their other powers, which are available more frequently, seem underwhelming. Except cauterize. Omg cauterize.
