So many on these forums are already crying for a nerf to the only Crucible viable sub-class Titans have.
The operative word here is already - you know why that is?
It's been a week since Sunbreaker has been released, and now we have all the self-proclaimed PvP experts pouring in to tell us in their self-righteous tones that Hammer of Sol is over-powered.
A week was all it took for a few Hunters to decide they didn't like this new contender to the Crucible throne - before, they had little competition, but now, a week after Hammer of Sol arrived, they've decided they've had enough.
Remember when the Arc Blade insignia would flood your kill-feed game after game, indicating to you that some unstoppable Bladedancer was wreaking havoc on hapless victims for fifteen seconds straight?
Remember when the Golden Gun icon would pop up in the bottom left corner of your screen faster than you could track it?
Now, Hammer of Sol is doing the same thing and all of a sudden it's not okay?
Why was it okay for Bladedancers and Gunslingers to slaughter entire teams, but not so for Sunbreakers?
Bungie, I ask that you don't take to heart what this group of spiteful Hunters has to say - they are bitter and have no interest in balance, they seek only to keep themselves at the top of the food chain and appeasing them would do more harm than good.
They propose reductions to health, Hammers, and Armor - the things that are the very essence of the Sunbreaker.
Changes to these aspects of the Sunbreaker would ruin the sub-class, and for that reason I ask you to not listen to them, but to me.
The aspect of the Sunbreaker that skews the Crucible in his favor is time - we are given twenty-five seconds to roam around the map to do as much damage as possible.
I must say that is a bit much.
A plausible change would be to reduce the time from twenty-five seconds to twenty - amplifying the sense of urgency while Hammer of Sol is active.
This would also make it easier for bystanders to stall it out, which is already a very viable tactic for surviving Sunbreaker onslaughts.
That would be the perfect resolution to everyone's problems.
Do not reduce damage resistance.
Do not reduce number of Hammers thrown.
By reducing time, you would raise the level of skill needed to properly handle Hammer of Sol, seeing as right now it is very forgiving of user error and can turn even the scrubbiest into slayers.
Please, Bungie, don't ruin the greatest gift you've given us such a short time after we received it.
MODEST PROPOSAL:
Since everyone's greatest gripe seems to be the high damage resistance in combination with the healing factor, I'm going to suggest something.
Eliminate Cauterize and replace it with a perk that enhances damage resistance, something like the following:
Fire Forged: Enemies brought down by your fire grant you ten percent damage resistance. Stacks up to three times.
With this in Cauterize's place, opposing Guardians wouldn't have to worry about a Sunbreaker's health replenishing after each kill, making it that much easier to bring him down.
The armor boost would make the Sunbreaker tough, but not invulnerable.
Thank you for listening.
If you have any suggestions other than the knee-jerk Armor and hammer reduction, please feel free to share.

Edited by spamLEGENDS: 10/16/2015 1:44:01 AMThat sounds like a decent nerf. I'm not sure if it would be good enough, we'd have to see it in action. I'd like to note that I've had a far easier time killing blade dancers (and a somewhat easier time killing gunslingers) out of their supers than I have against sunbreakers. I think the main issues are the healing/dmg resistance combo (as you mentioned), and also the super long duration combined with up to 7 ranged one-hit-kills. A good nerf might be to slow them down (or if they're already slow, to make it so their jump is slower too) IMO. I don't think that hunters (at least some of them) are upset about having a contender around. They just don't want what seems to be a pretty definitive usurper. However, as a warlock, I'm not really sure I can speak for them.

2 RepliesEasy fix make them a tank! Therefore, make them move slower.

1 ReplyEdited by Malovi: 10/15/2015 11:37:42 PMIt is so obviously over-powered that I half-expect these threads to be satirical - I main a warlock and cannot begin to understand how HoS made it through QA in its current form. It is basically all of the best parts of Novabomb (blast radius), Radiance (increased armor + multiple projectiles in rapid succession) and Arc Blade (health regen on kills) rolled into one super. How are we expected to counter this by the OP? well to run and hide of course.. If I were going to make a post defending the balance of a super I'd at least offer up something like: 'hey, this is a weakness of the super that you can kill the user with' Instead, we get" 'run away and let their timer run out' At least with a arc blade and a golden gun you can hope to kill the wielder before they can tag you..
-
Lol only a OP titan would say this. Sniper headshots don't kill it dude c'mon that's enough. Golden gun should one shot it & the massive blast radius on the hammers is so ridiculous you have to just slam them around the vicinity to get a kill. And then don't compare to golden gun dude... GG gets 11 seconds & the hammer 26.. lol
-
Arc blade and GG are easy to counter with a sniper shot to the domepiece. HoS takes a round to the head (LDR/HB variety) and keeps going. Less armor Smaller proximity detonation area
-
sign if your a warlock and think hammer is over-powered
-
I just want a slight shield reduction nerd. Nothing more
-
Sunbreakers will get some sort of nerf. Sorry too many pvp players cried .
-
Striker is more than viable
-
2 RepliesEdited by Pjosk85: 10/15/2015 10:27:48 PM1 melee + shotgun shot should kill it.
-
9 RepliesJust slightly nerf the armor to be one shot by a high impact sniper, no need to remove perks and add more. It wouldn't ruin the super, and it would still be a top tier super alongside Golden Gun, Stormtrance and other similar supers. Would still be a beast, just wouldn't be almost invincible and would make people have to think before running into a room with 6 people in it. Call it a knee-jerk armor reduction, but that's most likely what's going to happen if a nerf does happen.
-
My biggest problem with Sunbreakers is the armor. It's over a 50% damage resistance. For example, I shot a Titan in the head and killed him with my Hung Jury, dealing 60 damage to the head. Then I shot the same Titan in the head using the same Hung Jury, and did 27 damage. Over half of my damage was resisted.

4 RepliesThe style you writing in lacks manners. Your ignorant attitude to others experience also. Really, if you would have suppress this kind of tone, your post would be much more easier and pleasurable to read.
-
Just go into Iron Banner, the Sunbreaker f'in ridicolous.
-
If your proposing to get rid of cauterize, go ahead and get rid of all health regen perks while you're at it...
-
5 RepliesNo. nerf stormcaller that shit is cheap
-
4 RepliesSun breakers suck and require no skill, if your a Titan you should get a warlock, since their the best
-
1 ReplyI agree that sunbreaker shouldn't be needed, but for different reasons... And disagree with most points you made. For starters, striker is amazing in crucible and its definitely one of my favorite PvP subclasses. I might even chose it over sunbreaker depending on the situation, and I know a lot of people would agree with me. Second of all, arc blade is probably the worst super in the game so I don't know what you're going on about there. The only complaint I have about golden gun is the massive amount of aim assist that let's people bend golden gun bullets around walls and stuff, because that's really annoying. Other than that its fine. The real reason why sunbreaker shouldn't take any nerf is because hammer of Sol is the only good thing about sunbreaker and if the super weren't so powerful, the subclass would be AWFUL.
-
4 RepliesIt is, period. It'll get tweaked, hopefully not horribly. Been maining my Titan lately and sometimes it feels cheap and/or overpowered. Not always, but it's a bit too strong, imo. Just because another subclass was over powered at one point doesn't mean Sunbreaker, or any other subclass, should be OP now. Anyone who calls that "balance" is just being an entitled, hypocritical douche. The game needs balancing in a lot of areas. It'll happen, kids will cry about it,but the game will hopefully be better for it.
-
Really? Don't even act like striker isn't one of the best pvp classes. And how do you think people Play this game? Well 9/10 of people play all 3 classes. And it's not just people who main hunter who are mad, it's anyone people who want a balanced meta and don't pretend something's OK for there own gain. People who say sunbreaker is balanced and needs skill sound like those who said the same thing about thorn.

6 RepliesThey're probably going to bring down the damage reduction so you can't tank a GG shot or high impact sniper shot with a max armor build. They just buffed golden gun in 2.0 to 1 shot all supers except a skull of dire ahamkara voidwalkers or unstoppable fist of havoc to make up for its lack of damage reduction, which is pretty fair, so there's no way they intended this to be the case. They're probably going to bring it down to 50% so it's equal to every other super that had damage reduction, which will still be very strong especially compared to arc blade which requires melee range and has a shorter duration. Also sunbreaker is not the only viable pvp subclass, I played around with defender and striker in pvp back in house of wolves and did pretty well, their supers aren't that great (especially pre 2.0 ward of dawn), but their other perks are amazing, and supers don't come into play very much in a game anyways. They are weaker than other subclasses, but they're still good and viable if you know how to use them.

Meh. I'm just like meh. It's whatevs
-
1 ReplyIf a sunbreaker is the only viable option for you in crucible, then you just aren't that good.
-
If u suck and cant kill one really. Just stop

4 RepliesEdited by DieHardPenguin: 10/6/2015 2:50:42 AMGolden gun-no damage reduction huge range Arc blade- little range moderate damage reduction Hammer of sol- huge range huge damage reduction. You can i shot an arc blade with a mid impact sniper you cant one shot a hammer of sol with a mid impact sniper. Let hate commence. Im sure some tough guy is gonna call me a scrub. ;)
