1. Yes? No?
2. Why does it matter to you?
3. What is a "good" k.d?
I frequently see people on here bashing others for not having a "good" kill/death ratio. I feel like there are plenty of factors as to why someone's kdr is low.
Edit 1: I should've made a poll. Im a forum noob :(
Edit 2: Wasn't expecting this many replies. Keep them coming!

It matters a little I guess. I don't think it is an accurate metric of your gaming ability necessarily. Now, as hard as it would be, having a low or negative k/d in pve would show that you can't figure out how the game mechanics work. In pvp, a number of factors go into what your k/d would be in addition to just skill, including lag/Internet connection, television latency, etc. not just your connection and TV latency, but also that of your opponents. If you use a normal controller and the others have missed controllers. Cheaters/hackers/lag switchers, etc. Not that any of this can be used as an all out explanation for bad k/d either. There is still an element of skill. But with this game, k/d more accurately reflects how much more powerful some weapons, classes, and subclasses are over others, in addition to actual skill. A lot of these weapons also have higher aim assist than others, almost ensuring an improved k/d. So does k/d matter? Yes. And no.

This might not make sense but IMO K/D in a single match matters but not overall K/D.......
-
To an extent yes. I'd say it more depends on who ur playing with
-
no K/d doesnt actually matter, but i use it as a gauge to see how well I am doing, and see if I am improving.

22 RepliesThis is my view on K/D: 0.5 and Below: Reckless, you need more practice. 0.6 - 0.9: Decent, but need to be more careful. 1.0 - 1.2: Average, you're helpful and can hold your own. 1.2 - 1.5: Good, you play careful and effectively. 1.6 - 1.9: Skilled, killing sprees are common for you. 2.0+ : Pro, you rarely die and almost never lose a gunfight. 3.0+ : Machine, you either have cat-like reflexes or you're part robot. -------------- Note: I'm not saying K/Ds show who's good or who's not, however it does reflect those who are careful and those who are reckless.

Nope. What really matters in Destiny PvP is how good of a lag switch you use.
-
A good K/D is one that's higher than the other guy.

8 Replies1.Yes 2.It typically shows you know your stuff 3.Decent K/D IMO would be a 1.5
-
It matters in trials for me. Other than that I'm there to mess around and have fun. Going try hard in casual crucible is stupid

5 RepliesYes because its judges your skill in certain situations. The people whom succeed perfectly or very well at trials of osiris are the 1.5+ people. These are average PvP players that can pull those clutch moments with no problem with good teammates at their back. If you have a 2.0 on your hands, these are the guys whom think of every situation before they go into the fight. They know the ins and the outs of the map. These people are only held back by having teammates whom aren't the best and these guys can be considered carriers. 3+ these men will almost always have your back, these guys you can expect to Have exceptionally good talent with all guns in the game and don't have to think about the situation happening about them, it is second nature for them. Anything past this is ungodly and can be considered a no life for it can only be achieved by the most dedicated of players also known as "sweats." These are the grim reapers of the lobby. They will always be top and are rarely found in regular crucible. If you are to come across them.. RUN

KD doesn't mean anything. Credit score does.

1 ReplyOther than bragging rights k/d means absolutely zilch

Edited by Dooodley: 6/23/2015 6:44:46 PMThere's not a single PvP mode in this game where you reasonably can win by simply playing the objective. You can however win all of them (atm) by playing slayer, where you are a liability if your k/d, or atleast k+a/d isnt positive. Anyhow, I think everyone would have a better time if people stopped running circles around the map in control and protected what they had instead. It would significally improve the players who currently rock low k/d's and it would be less painful for good players to watch. Objective trading is one of the worst k/d killers there is so just stop doing it. I can't imagine that you think it's fun to watch the respawn screen or be the worst on your team in every game. It affects your team mates too, since you are flipping the enemy spawns by constantly being on the move, resulting in that your team mates are both getting spawn killed or spawned on by three enemies. A similar playstyle in a game like Halo would have resulted in a 50-0 game, in the other team's favor. The only reason you people get some kills here is because of the gimmicky abilties and how the game allows you to kill trade. As for good k/d, it's really down to the game and the circumstances. For a game like Destiny, where there's no sign of skill levels or proper matchmaking, and backfills are screwing over solo players I'd say that 2.0 is ok as solo and 3.5 for someone who's always playing on a team. Obviously a lower standard for ToO, due to the fact that you cant hoard kills the same way.

The only thing KD is good for is bragging rights. Other than that it's just a number that those not effect your gameplay.
-
I only care about my k/d, not others.
-
Absolutely. I prefer winning.
-
I don't see why it matters. It's just a video game, after all.
-
Edited by zSam: 6/22/2015 12:08:50 PMIt depends. In things like Team Deathmatch (or Destinys equivalent) then yes. Because it's based on how many kills you had versus how many deaths. However, I mostly play Control. In Control, K/D doesn't matter as much. Simply because you could have more deaths than the enemy and still win the game. Edit: Poor internet speeds should also be taken into account. We all know how much a crappy connection can damage your K/D.

3 RepliesI would say that by and large it matters, yes. It matters because it's indicative (to a degree) of how good you are at shooters. Now there's no question even the best players have ups and tremendous downs in Destiny; it's the nature of BS things like supers and heavy ammo chain deaths so I'd say it's a bit less indicative of skill than in other shooters. But it's still a good indicator of how much you can kill versus how much you die in a game about killing.
-
1 ReplyI dont think it matters but i only play Control.
-
It's a shooting game Obviously kd matters. 😓
-
1 Reply1. Yes 2. I want to play with people who are good when I'm trying to get things done in pvp 3. Depends on the mode Trials = 1.3 Control/clash = 1.5
-
Yes, shows how consistent a player is. Definitely doesn't paint the whole picture though.
