1. Yes? No?
2. Why does it matter to you?
3. What is a "good" k.d?
I frequently see people on here bashing others for not having a "good" kill/death ratio. I feel like there are plenty of factors as to why someone's kdr is low.
Edit 1: I should've made a poll. Im a forum noob :(
Edit 2: Wasn't expecting this many replies. Keep them coming!

1 ReplyYea KD matters, the thunder didn't even make it to the playoffs when KD got injured, Kevin Durant won the MVP award once so he must be important
-
K/D? Lol no, especially not in this game. As a matter of fact, stats don't even matter.
-
K/D says nothing about the players actual skill... Friends play on your account which greatly reduces it, and sometimes you're just having an off game. The only way to tell if someone is good is by playing with them. All these K/D snobs are a joke. Won't play with someone if their K/D isn't atleast 1.5..? Get a life, dude. It's a video game, it's meant for fun. If you're that serious about who you'll "allow" on your team, maybe you should find a new hobby. Destiny is about having fun while playing, not a f'ing life or death situation. Get over yourselves

Edited by bravadosupreme: 6/27/2015 1:37:38 AMYes, to an extent. Beware some KDs. Some guys pubstomp in a fireteam of 6, thus boosting their KDs. Competitive sixes show true KD.
-
Is it a good indicator of skill? Maybe, maybe not. But it's the best thing we have to judge by since everything else means almost nothing. Subtle differences aren't much, but if you see someone with like a 2.0, they probably know what they're doing. Likewise, if you see someone with like a .3, either they're bad or they goof off a lot. Neither is probably a good thing.
-
No and once the mayhem playlist hits I'll be having too much fun to care.

1 ReplyNot really. It is just like any other statistic, it should be taken with a grain of salt. The problem is that statistics tell only the end result, not the circumstances that lead to that result. For example, say a guy has a k/d of 0.8. That's all people on these forums see, 0.8. What they can't see is that the guy has young children that play on his account, or he has an infant that requires him to go afk on a moments notice. Both of those situations can be detrimental to ones k/d ratio. Then you have situations where maybe Destiny is the first competitive multiplayer FPS a person has ever played. They probably sucked horribly at first but have progressed to the point where now they lead their team. The person is technically good at the game now but their k/d ratio still reflects the "learning phase".

1. To me, no 2, I know when I'm playing good or not I don't need a number to tell me 3. 1.0 and above. Just going positive should be considered good
-
I have a low K/D myself and you people can say what you want but crucible is a place where I go when I got nothing better to do and to upgrade gear that's all but now trials well that's a different story with me
-
K/D is a sign of skill. In my books 1.1 or above is fine. Feel free to hand with me. 0.8 ooooh... Poor guy. 1 ummm hi? 1.1 feel free to hang 1.5 please hang 2.0 DAAAAAYUM 3.0 + *worships* 4.0 *worshipping intensifies*

Yes k/d matters. Why? K/d is the easiest way of saying for everyone one death I've had, I took at least x amount of people with me. When I put together a trials team I look at k/d. .x-1.4 I don't bother with. You either die more times than you can kill or you take only one with you on average. 1.5 and up basically tells me you can run a fair chance of taking more than one target and usually means you handle pressure well. Now I get it, k/d isn't always accurate. But it's a fair indicator to me personally. I have a 1.9 average. And I know that I pull some nice plays out on a consistent basis that my k/d reflects. I have a brother. His k/d is .9 and I've seen him play. He usually trades and dies. He isn't very good. Both our k/d does a good job of summarizing our skill
-
I say no, but just for dumb reasons. I personally think I am a pretty good player, but my KD is low because my friends and I mess around a lot. But if you are very good and have like a 3 KD, then that definitely mean you are good no matter what

8 RepliesTo me, I find that there are these thresholds for when K/D does matter, some examples: 1) I'm putting together a team for Iron Banner. K/D is the main thing I look at, if you are below 1. then I won't even bother, because your average is basically being 'neutral', and by that I mean you give away points just as much as you secure them , and for that to be your average it means you will have a fair amount of games where you will literally be more of a burden then anything else. 2) It is always nice to have just one player who is sitting at around 3-4 k/d overall because they are usually the ones who play it safe and are great at picking off enemies, which is an annoying tactic when everyone is doing it, but it is a great asset to have one guy doing it. I love arguing with people who say K/D doesn't matter...it's kind of silly on their part (to me anyways). Usually their main argument is for the control playlist and how you need to capture points, but they don't understand that if you have a team where everybody holds a 2+ k/d then you don't actually need to capture the points. Back when my team use to play, we could easily win a control match while just holding one point and just running around killing them. K/D is a simple way of seeing how effective someone is in combat, be it they are campers or they have the skill to jump into the action and go against 5 enemies and come out victories. K/D does matter, and is the easiest way of seeing someones skill, if you want to figure out what kind of player they are however, you will need to look at their other stats on destinytracker, but for the most part people do not have the time to do that every time they want to put together a team. My K/D ratio's are below, also if there are any clans out there seeking pvp players for xbone, hit me up, my fireteam no longer plays and I am desperately looking for some great pvp players to play with. titan: 1.99 warlock: 2.35 Hunter: 2.63

Yeah it matters to most Mine sucks Kids play on my account Still go flawless each week Since everyone judges you on k/d i have learned to keep my mouth shut I'm giving advice in to0. There is always someone that virtually bends me over and ass -blam!-s me for negative k/d. Pretty funny sometimes.
-
1. Yeah 2. It shows wether your giving or taking from your teams score 3. 1.0+

5 RepliesEdited by CleverInvective: 6/26/2015 11:59:08 PMRelatively speaking yes. Even in zone based control kills still have more weight than capping. Because it's a kill centric game (No points for support roles like orb generation or area defense.) KD is a somewhat relative reflection how effective your contribution to winning. I say somewhat because the multiplier factor of held zones in control skewers the relevance of KD a bit. Not enough to render it unuseful; just less accurate. However KD is more accurate to your contribution in clash but the point scoring is more simplistic. Roughly speaking anything above 1.0KD implies a positive contribution to the team. However, a skilled player will aim for 2.0 KD and will have a more significant factor in victory.
-
1. Yes 2. Its nice to see how well you are excelling 3. I'd say 1.5 is a respectable kd, even more so if its without Thorn

-
nope i only have a 1.6 and im way above average
-
To a certain extent K/D matters. If someone has a .4 compared to a 3.0, there is a definite skill gap between the two. However, it isn't the primary factor when determining who the better player is.
-
2 RepliesDoes size matter ?

1 ReplyIt took a long time for me to "get gud" at destiny crucible. My k/d was godawful for a very long time and just recently I've gotten better. I'm still getting better. However, my k/d is horrible because no matter how many games I play at the top of the leaderboards, my early career is gonna drag that down.
-
Yes k/d matters quite a bit. I have never met a player with a high kd that didn't play well and vice versa for someone with a negative kd. If you have a negative kd then that means that you lose more fights than you win, which serves as a clear indication of your skill. Simple as that

If you have a good KD then yes. If you have a bad KD then no.
