This weekend, it became very clear that HoW's new endgame reward (the infamous Lighthouse) created as many problems (cries of inequity) as it solved (the lack of elite PvP player rewards). If you're like me, you've been playing since day 1 and lived through the fusion rifles that were effectively shotguns AND sniper rifles, salvage matches with ridiculous capture spawn locations, and the like. If you're like me, then you're also significantly better at PvE than PvP. While I'm all for rewarding skill, I think
Bungie totally bungled The Lighthouse implementation: the rewards are significantly better than PoE's, the space is a much better PvP reward than anything PoE has, and its limited time nature makes it harder to coordinate player schedules (I personally play primarily midweek.). Feel free to throw in the issues with disconnects, server errors, matchmaking, lag switches, weapon balance, etc.
In spite of that, elite players deserve to be rewarded for their skills. The real mistake arises from Destiny having no PvE comparison in HoW. Since The Lighthouse exists, there should be a PvE pathway to it, as well. For people complaining about gamers wanting things handed to them, that's not what I want. I want a PvE challenge to EARN access to The Lighthouse. Level 36 PoE? Okay. PoE Nightfall? Okay. As a WoW vet, I loved the challenge of finally cracking a 40 man raid, server first. If I'm being honest, PoE is currently a joke and ToO flawless is far more challenging.
To sum it up, Bungie can make both halves of their player base happy by sharing the reward for a consummate PvE challenge. People can spout, "git gud" all they want, but what was my reward for Flawless Raider? A trophy. Wow. That reward really changed my gaming experience. You're telling me that being in the top 1.1% of PvE players (I also have Guardian Lord: 0.7%) doesn't deserve access to The Lighthouse? I'm not selfish enough to be backpacked there (though I've done it many a time in PvE), and the PvE solution could be as simple as a monumental PvE challenge. I'm up for it.
TL;DR: Destiny should have an elite PvE challenge that grants access to The Lighthouse, and it should be of consummate difficulty to ToO's flawless victory requirement.
EDIT: I do not want them to make anything easier. I am going to keep working on flawless (I have already gone 5-0 and 4-0 without boons). This is a proposed solution to quell the masses, and it highlights the lack of hardcore PvE content/rewards.

1 ReplyI don't understand why it has to be flawless. 9-1 isn't good enough for loot? Flawless is harder than PoE? Not really... First try, 9-1 with 2 players who never pvp and we had someone dc and we lost. 2nd try, 9-0 with players who pvp. This is why I didn't wanna see something like this. You can't make something this competitive without having problems, laggers, server hiccups, cheaters or even an ISP issue can end a flawless.

If any thing make it just as important to get there through prison of elders... Such as go "flawless" on the lvl 35 with no deaths.... Just for you though.

1 ReplyAm pretty good in PVE and PVP and i must say people need to stop crying over the light house. PVE is hard as PVP, don't believe me? Try PoE without solar burn. Both sides should be satisfied with what they got. Also, Trials is the only place were you actually EARN great rewards once you go flawless. Peace out!
-
3 RepliesGive them a different but equally satisfying reward, if pve people went to the light house it wouldn't make sense in the lore
-
1 ReplyI don't agree. What about all the players who are good at PVP but can't make it through a nightfall? Should they be rewarded with exotics every time they get a 24/6 kd?
-
No solution needed. Move on here.

To sum it up, Bungie can make both halves of their player base happy by sharing the reward for a consummate PvE challenge.
Obviously, there's nothing Bungie can do to make everyone happy. PVE gets raids, Nightfall, and PoE, but the moment the Lighthouse shows up in PVP, some of the PVE players start complaining that they never get anything special.
-
Im a main PVE player and will probably never see the light houses but that said I'm not angry, its a good pvp reward but with this suggestion i do like the idea is of having a PVE way of getting there, say when the new raid comes out have a normal, hard, and challenging mode and completing challenging grants you passage there! Just an idea

1 ReplyI'm gonna be so bummed when Bungie breaks and makes the lighthouse open for everyone. I suck at pvp, but I hate that "everyone should have everything" crap. Is there nothing worth working for anymore? Nobody has goals?!
-
I agree with your post 100%.

1 ReplyYou have to remember that the lighthouse also has Story and Lore significance. A path from the PoE to the lighthouse would be tough to explain story wise because Osiris has almost no connection to the fallen or the PoE. I would not be opposed to special PVE social space. BUT you have to also remember that most, if not all, of the people who made it to the lighthouse would easily be able to make it to this 'PVE social space' and so you most likely still have people complain about the trials being to hard. I'm not trying to sound elitist here, but it is the truth.

I just don't understand why everyone thinks they are entitled to every piece of gear, location, secret and other nook and cranny within the Destiny universe. What if i woulld rather go to the treasure room after going Flawless in ToO?? What if i would rather get BlackHammer after downing Atheon? People just need to do what activities they enjoy and have fun in and stop worrying so much about getting EVERY, SINGLE piece of gear. Have fun, this is a game.... The only problem I have with ToO is that it seems to be the easiest way to obtain etheric light thus far. Even for people who enjoy crucible, there needs to be other ways to get this stuff.

1 ReplyGlad to see someone post something with some real compromise. I like the idea of having a PvE equivalent of Lighthouse or an alternate pathway that is equally as challenging. Personally I get the feeling the the Lighthouse will not keep it's gates closed forever but is an actual space intended to be further used/expanded at a later date.

3 RepliesEdited by Sonic Roctopus: 5/26/2015 10:23:43 PMI think PoE level 35 should take you to the lighthouse. But since PoE already has a chest, the lighthouse chest should remain for ToO. But really trials of Osiris is the hardest end game activity currently and the rewards are just.

Pve is easier to cheese than pvp. Yes I know lagswitch
-
1 ReplyThat's the best flucking idea and reasoning I've ever heard.
-
1 ReplyGoing flawless is much MUCH easier than 35 PoE...
-
2 RepliesOh my god -blam!- off get good at pvp and get there yourself the way you were intended to get there you -blam!-.
-
5 RepliesEdited by Paradise: 5/26/2015 4:22:48 PMPoE has a chance at the exotic bounty, guaranteed exotic each week, queens guns, 42 light armor for 1 armor core each week, 365 gun for weapon core each week, and a chance at elemental primaries...you were saying? Not to mention it's far easier than going flawless
-
4 RepliesOh boy, a pulse rifle with a elemental damage type. We don't have any of those in the game.

7 RepliesTHERE IS NO SOLUTION NEEDED!!!!! IT'S LITERALLY THE ONLY THING YOU NEED TO WORK FOR IN THIS GAME
LOUD NOISES
-
1 ReplyLmao everyone should be better at PvE than PvP, idiot
-
6 Repliesi am a slightly above average pvp player. i played with some guys that are pretty good, but not Gods by any stretch. i made it to the lighthouse on two different characters, and went 9-1 on the third. level 35 poe is harder than trials. it is a 3-5 hour commitment, depending upon how the final boss rng decides to go that round. the treasure room is not the equivalent of mercury. anyone who has been to both and is honest with themselves will say the same. at the same time, mercury isn't about the loot. it's about the emblem and the fact that you got there. does pve need something like that? idk, i would say that the ship sort of says the same thing. mercury is fine. i do think that perhaps a lockout for players that have already gone flawless would probably alleviate the problem, but people would purposely just lose until the last day.

5 RepliesI don't get it... The chest piece is available at FIVE WINS!! If you play one game in the crucible playlist each day you can get enough coins by the end of the week to lose 4 times while only winning seven games... Getting eight wins on a card is NOT as hard as people are acting. The problem is that everything available from the Osiris vendor is being completely taken for granted by everyone

2 RepliesBoth halves of the player base should be happy! Are we 4 years old!? Just because one thing is provided to PvP then something must be provided to PvE? Why are we so childish!? Just be grateful there was an update. Be grateful this expansion is better than TDB. "You're telling me that being in the top 1.1% of PvE players (I also have Guardian Lord: 0.7%) doesn't deserve access to The Lighthouse?" - Who told you this? You can absolutely get a team together, run ToO, and if you are good enough, go to the Lighthouse yourself. No one is stopping you or keeping this from you but yourself. You have every opportunity the rest of us have. If you CHOOSE not to try, or attempt and fall short, this is not a problem that needs a solution. BLUF, yes, even if you are in the top 1.1% of PvE players, you do not qualify to step into the Lighthouse; this is a PvP achievement. Oh, and next time, at least offer to share the cheese...
-
1 ReplyNo, look at TDB, what did PvP players get in regards to endgame content? If you can't get to it, TRY HARDER!!!! Find new strategies!!! New weapons (like a 365 Praedyths revenge) Find new teamates!!! According to this post there should also be a way to get to the PoE treasure room via PvP. This post just makes you seem like an entitled brat.
