This weekend, it became very clear that HoW's new endgame reward (the infamous Lighthouse) created as many problems (cries of inequity) as it solved (the lack of elite PvP player rewards). If you're like me, you've been playing since day 1 and lived through the fusion rifles that were effectively shotguns AND sniper rifles, salvage matches with ridiculous capture spawn locations, and the like. If you're like me, then you're also significantly better at PvE than PvP. While I'm all for rewarding skill, I think
Bungie totally bungled The Lighthouse implementation: the rewards are significantly better than PoE's, the space is a much better PvP reward than anything PoE has, and its limited time nature makes it harder to coordinate player schedules (I personally play primarily midweek.). Feel free to throw in the issues with disconnects, server errors, matchmaking, lag switches, weapon balance, etc.
In spite of that, elite players deserve to be rewarded for their skills. The real mistake arises from Destiny having no PvE comparison in HoW. Since The Lighthouse exists, there should be a PvE pathway to it, as well. For people complaining about gamers wanting things handed to them, that's not what I want. I want a PvE challenge to EARN access to The Lighthouse. Level 36 PoE? Okay. PoE Nightfall? Okay. As a WoW vet, I loved the challenge of finally cracking a 40 man raid, server first. If I'm being honest, PoE is currently a joke and ToO flawless is far more challenging.
To sum it up, Bungie can make both halves of their player base happy by sharing the reward for a consummate PvE challenge. People can spout, "git gud" all they want, but what was my reward for Flawless Raider? A trophy. Wow. That reward really changed my gaming experience. You're telling me that being in the top 1.1% of PvE players (I also have Guardian Lord: 0.7%) doesn't deserve access to The Lighthouse? I'm not selfish enough to be backpacked there (though I've done it many a time in PvE), and the PvE solution could be as simple as a monumental PvE challenge. I'm up for it.
TL;DR: Destiny should have an elite PvE challenge that grants access to The Lighthouse, and it should be of consummate difficulty to ToO's flawless victory requirement.
EDIT: I do not want them to make anything easier. I am going to keep working on flawless (I have already gone 5-0 and 4-0 without boons). This is a proposed solution to quell the masses, and it highlights the lack of hardcore PvE content/rewards.

26 RepliesYou have to understand pvp is so much harder. It absolutely deserves a lighthouse. Anyone can complete prison of elders/raids etc. PVP requires so much more so if you're good enough to get those rewards you deserve it.
-
1 ReplyI have done both. Just keep practicing man. Good luck

Nothing you do in PvE in Destiny, will correlate to playing other living people. A better solution would be for people to just get over it and stop complaining about it. PvE gets a chest at the end of PoE and the end boss can drop Elemental Primaries. Trials has a chest that has Elemental Primaries. You can get Equal rewards from both, with the exception of the Ship in PoE, and the Emblem in Trials.

Agree

5 RepliesI agree but on the flip side I'm glad the elite pvp players get access to some cool stuff like the rest that play pve or both

1 ReplyEdited by SON OF CREELOX: 5/26/2015 1:31:01 AMWhen we get any Cult of Osiris gear from PvE, I could see Lighthouse being open to all. Until then, lore wise, it makes no sense. Why would Osiris let you enter his headquarters when you beat some Fallen punk he doesn't care about? It isn't so easy to just make it happen. The way it happens has to make sense too.

Edited by Fromage of Havoc: 5/27/2015 3:02:10 PM
the rewards are significantly better than PoE's
I have to agree with this...I'm tempted to just ignore PoE 35 this weekend...the rewards are crap in comparison, and the adapt guns are great for PvE, so I don't see much of a point into sinking time in PoE...queens weapons suck for the most part, too. I don't think the lighthouse should open up to anyone else though...but I'd expect to have a "PvE" version of it with PvE minded rewards that are somewhat "as awesome". Oh well.

1 ReplyI just wish they could matchmake everything so people can play whenever they want. For people who don't want it, this doesn't affect you because you already have teams.

Edited by ninjamouth: 5/26/2015 2:00:50 AMI agree with you. Kinda wish this game was just pve like it was originally advertised to be.

Signed.

Just have there be a separate spot for PvE. PvE is significantly easier than PvP I feel, so maybe bungie could add a more difficult challenge along the same difficulty of ToO
-
1 ReplyPvE casuals don't deserve a competitive playlist's rewards. You can't have everything handed to you.
-
2 Replieswhat a bright idea, i hope this shines through to the community
-
2 RepliesNo. Leave the Lighthouse for us PVPers. You guys can stay in the Tower or whatever lmao

6 RepliesEdited by JHarv: 5/26/2015 5:07:33 AMthe big problem is that it's created carrying to the lighthouse a service that people actually pay for. pay to win is a bad route to go down. i see a lot of people with a 0.8 overall kd and flawless trials emblems and such. you aren't fooling anybody. i joined a group today i thought just wanted to play for flawless but told me they charge $70 for a full flawless run, and have been doing all weekend for people. it's sad that some of you get that desperate for the end game rewards that the lighthouse gives, but even worse that you it gives you the "status" of a good player when you just paid for a carry. it's not good for the game. something has to change. there's a reason why people can't pay money for a ghorn or hawkmoon. but people are now starting to pay for elemental primaries and emblems.

Deserves a bump.

Bump.

You're saying some good things here. I'm beyond frustrated about the gap between PoE and ToO. If the rewards would be equal, I could say, allright I'll stick to the strikes, raids and arena's and leave PvP for what it is.
-
6 RepliesFlawless raider is miles easier than ToO 9-0
-
2 RepliesSolution? There's no problem with it. PvE has FOUR end game activities, one being repeatable, with great rewards too. People just close the positives and point out negatives.
-
8 RepliesThe Lighthouse is the Trials' content. It makes no sense to open it up any other way than to play the Trials. I have yet to beat Skolas, but you don't see me complaining about not having access to the Exotic bounties...
-
1 Reply100% agreed. Its not that I have a problem with Crucible players finally getting some endgame love. My problem is this- What have we PvE players ever gotten for being highly successful in raids? The only thing we get for doing a Flawless raid is a silly Psn trophy. I dunno about anybody else, but that honestly isn't worth my time or effort. Hell, even the top player in raids can end up with nothing but Ascendant or Radiant materials, and that's insane. Not even the exotic raid weapons are easily obtained. However, if there was an alternate path to the Lighthouse, or even a separate location elsewhere in the Reef (Maybe like the Wardens quarters or something in the Prison??) that opens up after a flawless prison run, it would give people something else to strive for. Don't make it so everyone can easily get to the Lighthouse, just give us Raiders something awesome like that to actually work towards!!

1 ReplyPvE should have it's own equivalent to the lighthouse that's specifically designed for the toughest PvE challenge in the game. Maybe make it the queens hall, where you get to go up to her throne and she'll give you a random reward for finishing whatever the activity is. The lighthouse is thematically designed specifically for the Trials of Osiris event, and I think it should stay specific to the trials.

5 RepliesIf it was the other way round, and it was for a long time, people wouldn't even bat an eye at someone not having a vex because they weren't good enough or couldn't find a team to run VOG with. If you are struggling to compete then have faith that Bungie will sort the matchmaking so that all those who are having difficulty will be soon playing each other instead of the random assortment of players it is now. If you have no interest in finding a team developing strategy or even your own ability then why is this any different than those who had no interest in forming a team and learning the raids. It isn't. Only you feel that you are losing privilege.

1 ReplyI don't understand why it has to be flawless. 9-1 isn't good enough for loot? Flawless is harder than PoE? Not really... First try, 9-1 with 2 players who never pvp and we had someone dc and we lost. 2nd try, 9-0 with players who pvp. This is why I didn't wanna see something like this. You can't make something this competitive without having problems, laggers, server hiccups, cheaters or even an ISP issue can end a flawless.
