This weekend, it became very clear that HoW's new endgame reward (the infamous Lighthouse) created as many problems (cries of inequity) as it solved (the lack of elite PvP player rewards). If you're like me, you've been playing since day 1 and lived through the fusion rifles that were effectively shotguns AND sniper rifles, salvage matches with ridiculous capture spawn locations, and the like. If you're like me, then you're also significantly better at PvE than PvP. While I'm all for rewarding skill, I think
Bungie totally bungled The Lighthouse implementation: the rewards are significantly better than PoE's, the space is a much better PvP reward than anything PoE has, and its limited time nature makes it harder to coordinate player schedules (I personally play primarily midweek.). Feel free to throw in the issues with disconnects, server errors, matchmaking, lag switches, weapon balance, etc.
In spite of that, elite players deserve to be rewarded for their skills. The real mistake arises from Destiny having no PvE comparison in HoW. Since The Lighthouse exists, there should be a PvE pathway to it, as well. For people complaining about gamers wanting things handed to them, that's not what I want. I want a PvE challenge to EARN access to The Lighthouse. Level 36 PoE? Okay. PoE Nightfall? Okay. As a WoW vet, I loved the challenge of finally cracking a 40 man raid, server first. If I'm being honest, PoE is currently a joke and ToO flawless is far more challenging.
To sum it up, Bungie can make both halves of their player base happy by sharing the reward for a consummate PvE challenge. People can spout, "git gud" all they want, but what was my reward for Flawless Raider? A trophy. Wow. That reward really changed my gaming experience. You're telling me that being in the top 1.1% of PvE players (I also have Guardian Lord: 0.7%) doesn't deserve access to The Lighthouse? I'm not selfish enough to be backpacked there (though I've done it many a time in PvE), and the PvE solution could be as simple as a monumental PvE challenge. I'm up for it.
TL;DR: Destiny should have an elite PvE challenge that grants access to The Lighthouse, and it should be of consummate difficulty to ToO's flawless victory requirement.
EDIT: I do not want them to make anything easier. I am going to keep working on flawless (I have already gone 5-0 and 4-0 without boons). This is a proposed solution to quell the masses, and it highlights the lack of hardcore PvE content/rewards.

3 RepliesAs someone who will also never likely step foot in the lighthouse either, let me just tell you this is probably the most ridiculous thing I'll read today. Who cares. Seriously, it's a 'Social space' where you see nobody else, and get a chest. It's essentially a location for a one-time chest. And that chest is only for those that go 9-0 in trials. You don't deserve that chest otherwise.. much like if you do part of a raid, you're not entitled to all of the remaining chest because "gosh golly gee I sure tried but I can't beat the other bosses so just give me the rest of the loot anyways". Earn it, or get over it.

1 ReplyOr you can take a break from pve and get better at PvP. And everyone can be a pve stud. The elite are the PvP studs

11 RepliesEdited by boys nite: 5/28/2015 4:54:49 AMThe original game and first DLC cater to PvE and no one bats an eye. A small part of the second DLC caters to PvP and everyone loses their minds.

1 ReplyGit gud

2 RepliesI don't know why people call some players Pvp players or pve players. Every single players in destiny do the pve. The best pve players are very good pvp players too. I don't know any good players in pvp who are shit at pve. My best pvp friends are always the first to beat all the pve activities. I might be wrong of course but the guys going to the lighthouse are also the best pvp players but also pve ones.

6 RepliesEdited by AurumPrimavera22: 5/29/2015 9:07:25 PMI have an idea To enter the Lighthouse, PvE players must beat the shite out of OP irl every week for being a fgt AND having bad ideas and thinking PvE people deserve PvP content without playing PvP I haven't been to ToO Sign below

3 RepliesI somewhat agree with this, but more so that they need to have better PoE rewards. It's a bit ridiculous that the only elemental primaries out there for this DLC are for PvP players. Not to mention the fact that the only way you can get the rewards for PoE after you've gone through all the hard work of finishing it is still gated behind hours of farming for a stupid key. I think it's stupid to give a PvE only player access to the Lighthouse when it's clearly only for the good PvP players.

I'm sorry but no pvp players who suck at pve can't get all the raid or poe stuff so the lighthouse is out greatest reward and we'll keep it that way
-
I'll bump that
-
11 RepliesSo... People should get PoE and raid year for playing a crucible playlist too then?
-
7 RepliesBest thing they could do is require 9 wins. Flawless just encourages the try hards and cheaters, and gives the rewards to the biggest douchebags.
-
With trails being dominated by the lighthouse lag switches, disconnections counted as losses even with the mercy and people rage quiting, there should be at least one other way to get to the lighthouse. Or it kind of encourages others to lag switch.
-
How about this, stop whining, fixed

1 ReplyThe description of the lighthouse clearly defines it as a space for the crucible elite, and yes I'm using my own words there..... So for PvE players to want/demand/feel entitled to a way there is ridiculous. It's a pvp space.... Furthermore everyone's been given a path to the lighthouse already..... PvE players have gotten most of the content up to this point, there hasn't been a strictly pvp dlc, despite the strictly PvE dlc we recieved already. Up till now there hasn't been pvp locked content despite there being PvE locked content ( mytho, nechro, raid gear ). So unfortunately for everyone who's got tears in their eyes about this issue your just gonna have to suck it up and do what the pvp players have done in the past.... Venture outside your comfort zone and find a way to achieve your goal. Simple as that.

3 RepliesWho wants to run flawless real quick join me

You play ps3 OP?

I hate when people put "solution" or "fix" in the title when nothing is broken. PvP finally has something for skilled players. I know people hate hearing this but if you want to get to the lighthouse... PRACTICE. The same people complaining are the same people who won't put in the effort to get better.

3 RepliesI found beating the lvl 35 at 33 hard as shit it took me 6 hours but I was so happy I beat it but sadly I had no key so I reaped no benefit or proof of my hard work kinda sucked. I also beat ToO flawless and got the scholar I was so happy. So I find them both exciting but the 35 poe was alot less rewarding for me.
-
1 ReplyHere's an idea i heard someone mention in another thread. How about access to the lighthouse after 9 wins regardless if you have a loss or two on you card. That would fix people losing their chance over a disconnect or if they run into lag switchers. Sounded like a pretty decent idea to me.

7 Repliesshut up and get good, stop trying to steal from other players cuz you suck, should the nfl pay me cuz i wanted to play for the cowboys but suck?
-
2 Replieskill Skolas without any wipes

Yea maybe completing the 35 poe from start to finish without a single wipe. That's fair. That'll wprk
