So, my team and I have been fighting Skolas for the past... what? Three hours? And this is just absurd. There seems to be no way to kill him without 365 Gjallarhorns, and popping heavy ammo synths after every failure.
The boss will one-shot you. The hordes of captains will one-shot you. Failure results in having to wait ~8 minutes, because heavy ammo synths must be popped. The only viable way to kill him is to use a single weapon, that not every player has access to.
Before anybody says it, yes, we are running all G-horns, a Defender Titan, two 34s and one 33. This boss is terribly designed. There are way too many enemies, and way too much damage being thrown at the player, for the player to be saddled with Skolas' curse AND disarming mines.
Is anybody else having these issues with Skolas? Any other strategies for defeating him?
Edit: Does anybody know if the Adds stop respawning? As in if we kill them enough, will they stop coming?
Edit 2: Well, we got our Titan to 34, and what a difference! We wasted him on our first try on Monday within a minute. But know it's Arc Burn so... woo.

5 Replieskeep trying, I was pleased it was challenging and think it was about right. Waiting for synths does get tedious tho. I posted a strategy earlier think it got buried tho before anyone read it

3 RepliesI haven't touched level 35 yet and this post is scaring me
-
Its not even hard. Stop complaining because you cant use a game controller properly.

I've beaten skolas on all 3 character types, once at 33. I will admit each time we had 3 maxed gallys. Twice we managed to replicate the quick kill as per the videos, however the 3rd time skolas wouldn't play ball and kept teleporting on us before we could get his health down. So we changed it up and looked to get his health down to at least 50% before moving to the opposite end of the map, we knew when this was because variks calls out the first wave of bombs and devouring essence triggers. We moved as a group (to keep exchanging the essence when it was close to killing one of us) down the shore line in anticipation of first bomb spawning in. Whilst dealing with the bombs we tried to kill whatever vandals we could (they wreck you at distance). After the bombs we turned our attention back to skolas, having called in synths usually when defusing the far bomb as you have most space from enemies. At this point trying to do the remaining damage to skolas, we done this from the far end (right from air lock) because skolas had made his way down the map. When he was close to death one of the team (me) headed through the tunnels in anticipation of the next wave of bombs in case 1st one spawned in at opposite end of map (they need to be defused even after skolas has died) whilst the other team members continue to unload on him. Key points: Servitor bonds weaken for good after 50% health 1st wave of bombs trigger at 50% health Devouring essence triggers at 50% health also 2nd wave of bombs trigger at 25% health This strat could be modified for those without gallys and just aim for 25% health from first servitor kill, then all head down the shore line to other end where you will find another servitor but don't kill it until you have a good shot on the man himself and aim to get his health down to below 50% at which point servitor bonds will weaken for good. Then work on bombs/vandals/ surviving essence, do another 25% damage/bombs/vandals/essence then kill. I imagine this is how the wave is supposed to be played. Tips: Have a solar scout rifle for vandals (vision) Have a solar shotgun for captains (fell winter lie?) I used found verdict but wasn't as effective as i liked Have a solar rocket (gally obv but dragons breath or dream breaker should work) There was a vid of people having success with the vex if they didn't have gally Have full heavy and a heavy synth ready, this means waiting in airlock until team is prepared

2 RepliesIt's been out for like 5 days.. how many people you think beat crota in the 1st week.. what about atheon.. seriously just quit complaining and play the game.
-
Did it on first try with 2 34s and a 33 I don't see the problem
-
2 RepliesYeah it sucks...and the worst part is, it's really not even worth it. You just get a ship, shader, and emblem IF you have a treasure key. I've heard that you can get elemental primaries from him, but have yet to witness it or even see one.

1 ReplyEdited by t567y: 5/24/2015 7:22:37 PMSame here. 3 34lvls, 3 365 ghorns and Defender titan. I thought cabal round was hard because of those god damn psions!!! But skolas is just...crazy. after 2 hours of killing and dying i had to go and did everything for nothing -_-

Skolas was hands down the easiest fight in the whole PoE wtf are you talking about ??
-
You just have to learn where to drop your bubble. When the round starts immediately head left. Have a warlock toss 2 fusion grenades and the servitude goes down. As he does tag have your Titan drop his bubble in the open area before the first set of stairs. Now spread your team out with your weakest player towards the top area. As soon as he finishes his rockets have him take off for the opposite side of the map. Finish Skolas and make sure you get to the mines. Don't get frustrated and make sure your team keeps talking and learning from their mistakes. It's all about timing and being lucky enough for Skolas to avoid insta killing anyone early on in the round

The cool down on synthesis is what killed us. But we eventually got it done.
-
1 ReplyHaven't tried it yet but I'm eager to experience the frustration (and inevitable failure)
-
2 RepliesI feel your pain it just happened to me I'm probably gonna quit for a few months now I spent 7 hours on the whole arena just to get him to half health and die over and over...
-
3 RepliesAre you serious?? We killed him in less than 20 seconds WITHOUT Titans. Two Hunter and one Warlock. -start immediately running left when the arena starts -destroy the servitor IMMEDIATELY -everyone shoots ghorn at him, do not wait for anything -pop a synth right after your ammo is done. He should die easily. It took us two runs because I made a mistake in the first that costed all of my team's lives so if you're still on it after three hours WITH Titans you are either really bad or using some wack strategy
-
1 ReplyTBH, I feel like the fight could be balanced out with the addition of two scorch cannons spawning randomly on the map.
-
1 ReplyMe and my group done something different. We all sniped his head with 365 black hammers. He got to about a third health and then we Gally'd the ether out of him.
-
2 RepliesWell. That's. A. Shame.
-
3 RepliesHAHAHAHA XD GIT GUD SCRUB! HAHA JK! I soloed it, if ur on xb1, I'll help you tomorrow.
-
3 Replies100% agree. My group just -blam!-ing kicked me for not having ghorn. After 4 hours of playing with them...
-
4 RepliesI absolutely loved fighting skolas, we didnt use gallys to kill him at start took around 10-15min fight was fun as hell overall he took us 3 hours to kill. We need more!! Bosses like him in destiny!
-
Black hammer is a must as well.
-
It shouldn't take longer then 30 secs to kill him
-
Agree.
-
2 RepliesHaven't fought him myself but all the posts around the web seem to suggest that if no one in your party has a Gjallarhorn then the fight becomes extremely tedious and borderline impossible. Some people refuse to fight him unless all 3 party members have a Gjallarhorn.
-
3 RepliesNext week probably won't be so bad. He likely won't have solar burn, so for all of you gents getting torn a new one that should be good :) Just sucks for us that go for the 30 second kill xD
-
And Bungie says that it's too easy now, so he is getting a 45% hp buff
