Everybody says that hunters are useless in pve but what about warlocks? Most warlocks run with sunsinger so they save their super for when they die. Yes they make more orbs than hunters, yes they can self res, but that's it. Also sunsingers are cheese central. ALL cheeses can be done by sunsingers and only a few by titans.
Now voidwalkers, props to you guys for not using the crutch that is self res. And nova bomb is amazing. But then again, what uses do they have in pve? They don't benefit the team like a sunsinger or defender do. Not to mention the warlock jump is horrible.
So persuade me to make a warlock :) and you guys can't bash hunters because that's my main and it won't change my opinion on them.
Edit: Should I make a warlock before or after HoW?
Edit: Thank you everyone for pointing out my mistakes. I did make a warlock before and I didn't like it. And yes, my post is extremely subjective and ignorant. Believe what you want but it was the best way to get responses in this forum. I have noticed that mostly negative posts get responses and it worked. Many of you gave me mixed reviews on how to run the warlock so I'll take them all to account. And the negative comments helped bump my post for more to see so thank you also.
Also, I was thinking of song of flame when I wrote about sunsingers benefitting the team but I didn't say anything about it leaving most of you confused. I apologise.

Warlocks are faster than hunters. Warlocks have better grenades than hunters. Warlocks have further, and higher jumps than hunters. Warlocks supers are waaay better in PvE than a hunters. Hunters have stealth, which is epic.

1 ReplyLevel one; play it and see if you like it. Decide on your own.

1 ReplyHere is the real question: what is the point of having two of the same class?

Edited by Gideon VI: 5/1/2015 1:58:01 AMVoidwalker is an offensive class that relies DTS, area denial, and killing a lot of enemies at once. Essential exotics include Obsidian Mind, Voidfang Vestments, and Bad Juju. Susinger is a defensive and support-based class. Their radiance lets them reduce ally cooldowns, and if paired with the right upgrades it becomes a life-saver without the use of Fireborn. Sunsinger also generates the most orbs out of the three classes. Apotheosis Veil makes Radiance even more effective, Light Beyond Nemesis lets them generate even more orbs, and Heart of the Praxic Fire makes grenades even more effective and further reduces ally cooldowns. Warlocks have the steepest learning curve since they don't have any weapon-related upgrades in either of their sub-classes and aren't as focused on Agility or Armor, instead serving as a middle ground. Either sub-class can be almost as fast as a Bladedancer, or almost as tough as a Defender, all while having exceptional health recovery. Meanwhile, Hunters are still useless in PvE in all but a single part of a raid.

"..absolutely nothin." Jk, reply for Seinfeld lovers :D

Don't make one . It's our secret.

I feel the subclasses for each character are designed for one to be good with pve, and the other Pvp. Personally when I play crucible I prefer to go void walker. With my hunter I Pvp it up with gunslinger and once my Titan is a higher level I'll be running striker. They're all fun you just have to play them and test them out

2 RepliesEdited by Toni Dorsay: 5/1/2015 7:35:19 AMI Will not sell you on warlocks. Why should I? The learning curve is steep. Besides, that utter fearlessness and foolhardiness isn't for everyone. Warlocks don't sneak about and skulk. They are not scouts. Warlocks are not Spartan warriors of old, thundering through the delicate fabric of time and space. They are scholars and tacticians and strategists. Thinkers who understand there is a time for sacrifice that isn't really sacrifice, and they know how to get the attention of others so those scouts and tanks can hit them while they aren't looking. They are not for everyone. There is a reason Invective is the favored weapon of the vanguard leader...

the difference between each class are very minimal, most if the time you'll just shoot at stuff, and the only useful thing for a team is a titan bubble or a self resurrect , so teamplay side there not really something

Edited by jareids: 4/30/2015 10:27:28 PMWarlocks are really fun to play in my opinion. My Titan is what I'm most comfortable and dominate with, but the warlock is just a ton of fun. Voidwalker: You feel like a DBZ character out there. I run the obsidian mind/bad juju/soul rip combo with annihilate, vortex, and bloom. It's borderline hilarious. During the "waking the hive" mission and omnigul strike when the thrall and the the enemy moves against each other at the skywatch, you can literally throw back to back nova bomb after nova bomb after nova bomb and spawn dozens of orbs in seconds. It's all about wiping out massive crowds of enemies. I've gone through abyss solo and it was a walk in the park. You can turn around at every lamp and wipe out the crowd of thrall and instantly get your super back. Sunsinger: I make the argument that this is the most powerful and versatile sub-class in the game. I only use self-res for nightfalls. Usually I use radiant skin. But you can talk about how powerful nova bombs are, or fist or havoc, or golden gun, but no super in the game can come anywhere close to the power that your insane amount of grenades create. Especially if you have Heart of Praxic Fire, you can get close to 15 grenades in a single super. The best part is, you don't have to spend all your damage in one place. Other supers are either good for wiping out crowds of enemies OR doing high damage to bosses. But with radiance, you can throw grenades all over the place and wipe out lots of enemies, or you can focus by throwing them all at a boss, or even a bit of both. Plus with radiant skin and flame shield perks, you just turn into an unstoppable force for a while. Spawns ridiculous amounts of orbs for teammates, plus if you do have self-res on, you can be the savior of a raid or nightfall or Trials of Osiris match. In conclusion, warlocks are good for quite a lot.
But the jump really sucks.
-
1 ReplyWell let me start, warlocks are good for running voidwalker. It can take out huge mob of enemies In a blink of an eye. Sometimes nightfalls with void burn, the voidwalker is super powerful. Sunsinger. It can be what some might say "a crutch" but not all the time. I only use it during nightfalls, specifically in "respawn restricted" area. I have saved countless nightfalls and raids by doing so.

Warlocks are a really fun class, they have strengths and weaknesses just like any other class. The reason I like having the different classes is it gives you a variety of ways to play in PvP etc.

Edited by CDV3: 4/30/2015 10:14:25 PMNova bomb annihilates any other super, as long as it hits. It's so powerful because you only get one shot, but that one shot is gigantic, and usually kills everything within the general area, even if you were off. Plus, you can always adjust the skill tree to the way you like it. That's in PVP. In PVE, you'll get the same results, and you'll generate a ton of orbs if you land a NB on a group of enemies. For the jump, you're a hunter right? Just use blink once you get it on the voidwalker tree. I'm a voidwalker who always uses blink. I only ever use glide when I have to, like in Vog, and even then it's not that bad. (Glide is meant for PVE, Blink is meant for PVP). As for sunsingers, I agree.
-
Warlock looks smart with the vanguard jacket, nova bomb, axiom bolt seekers, glide is pretty good for...everything...

Uh hu. Absolutely nothing... say it again. Ah! Love that song.

All classes good for different play styles I prefer sunsinger with my armor stats since I get 2 grenades 2 melee(with flame shield) only res, when in nightfall or hard raid. Grenades and melee refill almost instantly intelligence 45% disipline 65% and strength 100% so radiance I'll pop whenever outside of those two game types
-
First you say sunsingers are useless in pve, but then you say voidwalkers are useless and sunsingers benefit the team. Make up your mind.
-
You don't know anything about a warlock unless you have one to use. I main a warlock and I can tell you we can speck ourselves to be as tough as Titans while having hunters being sneaking which isn't bad. And to be honest, the only reason we self res will only be for raids or nightfalls never anything else since we prefer to be useful when a wipe happens and we needed that last kill against the enemy or reach that checkpoint without problem. Other than that we use radiant skin perk for radiance or nova bombs against the masses so we can destroy the enemy while protecting our allies. So we aren't useless. We never were. You don't know yet and the only way you can is to look and see what we can do

My warlock I mostly use void walker in pvp just so I can clear a room unless I'm in skirmish and my team just leaves me behind or we all die in a room the self res revive then kill. Pve warlocks are great because subsided lets you self res when you make mistakes like I do all the time or when your in a raid or a strike as a sunsinger you generate a tone of orbs and get everyone charged up.
-
I've spawned almost 9000 orbs in strikes. I don't save it for when I die.
-
Edited by AsscheeksGalore: 4/30/2015 9:51:16 PMLamps: Obsidian Mind+ Bloom= heaven. Only crappy sunsingers run self res all the time, I use it for atheon if we only have 3 people left so 2 go in, I self res, open portal, win. A good warlock will use radiant skin for harder content, and song of flame for normal content. Warlock's are the only class to be able to affect friendly recharge, flame shield+radiant skin is highest damage reduction in game. As well as the fact that bloom essentially doubles radius of all abilities, ETB gives fastest passive regen; thus more grenades. All this makes warlocks extremely effective at consistent CC whereas hunters are excellent single target killers, Titans are tanks that support teamates that are good at both but masters of none.

They are good for Scorching hunters like you.
