Warlocks. What are you good for?

Everybody says that hunters are useless in pve but what about warlocks? Most warlocks run with sunsinger so they save their super for when they die. Yes they make more orbs than hunters, yes they can self res, but that's it. Also sunsingers are cheese central. ALL cheeses can be done by sunsingers and only a few by titans. Now voidwalkers, props to you guys for not using the crutch that is self res. And nova bomb is amazing. But then again, what uses do they have in pve? They don't benefit the team like a sunsinger or defender do. Not to mention the warlock jump is horrible. So persuade me to make a warlock :) and you guys can't bash hunters because that's my main and it won't change my opinion on them. Edit: Should I make a warlock before or after HoW? Edit: Thank you everyone for pointing out my mistakes. I did make a warlock before and I didn't like it. And yes, my post is extremely subjective and ignorant. Believe what you want but it was the best way to get responses in this forum. I have noticed that mostly negative posts get responses and it worked. Many of you gave me mixed reviews on how to run the warlock so I'll take them all to account. And the negative comments helped bump my post for more to see so thank you also. Also, I was thinking of song of flame when I wrote about sunsingers benefitting the team but I didn't say anything about it leaving most of you confused. I apologise.

  • On the jumping note simply double tapping the jump button gets you to peak height. Glide can be very useful though. Buy time in air or cover large distances or fly down from the skies. It confuses some. Blink though that's an acquired skill. It's a love/hate thing there.

    • Make more orbs? Learn to golden gun (use keyhole and combustion) take out large mobs or knock the life down on a couple major so you can get 8 orbs off 2 shots ;)

        • The saving the super part is not subject to one particular class. That is a player problem not a class problem. Been many of strikes where Titans hunters and warlocks never ever use a super makes absolutely no sense

          • Well okay you have two Hunters and a Titan. Personally I've always had problems with the Hunter jump that apparently you overcame. I have used my self res on Sunsinger mode to save the day for Nightfall strikes and raids. Since this is a established feature of Destiny I personally do not consider it cheese. However self res tends to be a liability during pvp play if there isn't a nearby friendly teammate.

            • All your post did was convince me that warlocks are better than hunters, didnt really put in a lot of effort towards your main class other than warlocks make more orbs than hunters, which is false unless you cant use your super correctly. I play both and they're both equally effective imo, depends on the situation.

              • The Warlock has some benefits the other classes dont have. First of all, the Nova Bomb is one (if not the) most powerful source of AoE damage in the game. Yes, the titan has its Chaosfist but you have to jump into the enemies. If you dont kill them, you can have a problem. The Warlock can launch its Nova Bomb from a save distance. Im not saying that Nova Bomb is better than the Chaosfist but it has its advantages. You can also spec your Warlock into a Grenade lobbing, novabombing machine of mass destruction with the right perks and exotics (has anyone said Obsidian Mind? XD) so again, huge AoE clear power. But the most important part is: Its fun as hell. I have played all 3 classes and all of them for quite a while and the good old warlock (my first one) is still the most fun to me. If you dont have anything left with your other characters, why dont you just make a warlock. It doesnt take long to max out both subclasses so you can experience the fun of the space magic.

But then again, what uses do they have in pve?[/quote] Obsidian Mind + Bad Juju = awesome in pve Call Radiance a crutch all you want, but warlocks dont hide from anything. We run right out into the fray to finish off a boss or to rez a fallen teammate. Saved countless nightfalls with this. The question you should be asking yourself is what good is blade dancer or golden gun in pve? both of your supers are useless against bosses. Where radiance allows warlocks to laugh in the face of death!

                  • Self rez is all you need for a reason to make a Warlock. That, and you generate literally thousands of orbs. In fact, I'd say Sunsingers are more support based than Bladedancers.

                    • For one, hunters statistically get the least amount of height on their double or even triple jump, second, whenever have you found golden gun helpful in pve? And don't go into blade dancer, the only thing it's good for is reviving other players while you're invisible so that the warlocks AND Titans can keep carrying you

                      • I believe I have the answer for that. Bear with me, because this will be quite long and detailed: Let's start with Voidwalker. This class is a bundle of fun with destructive force. It's a crowd control/DPS-type class with wide AOE abilities. The best grenade in its arsenal is the Vortex Grenade. It provides a large area of continuous damage. Combined with Annihilate and Vortex Mastery, it has a longer duration and larger AOE. It's great for trapping foes and area-of-denial. In other words, it cuts off the enemy's advances, and when placed right, can trap enemies within it, dealing massive damage in the process. Next we have the Super, Novabomb. Highly destructive projectile with 3 different variations. The first is Vortex. Similar to the Vortex Grenade, it provides large AOE damage over time, however, it is much larger and can instantly annihilate enemies that are caught within or near the center. Combined with Annihilate and Vortex Mastery, it becomes massive and lasts longer. Next is Shatter, this modifier splits Nova Bomb into 3 concentrated, smaller projectiles allowing it to cover a much larger area. However, since it's become 3 projectiles, it does not have the DPS that the Vortex version has. Instead, all the damage is focused into those 3 bursts. This allows for more destructive force in a wider area. Combined with Annihilate and Bloom, it's a force to be reckoned with. Annihilate will increase the explosion radius of the projectiles upon impact, while Bloom causes all enemies that die from it to combust, dealing more damage to the nearby enemies who survived. Another alternative to Annihilate is Angry Magic, which will allow Novabomb (Shatter) to track enemies. This ensures that you will hit your intended target, if they are within a certain range. The last variation of Novabomb is Lance. This focuses Novabomb into a small projectile that launches in a straight line and travels faster like that of a rocket Launcher. Given that this one only goes in a straight line rather than a downward arc like the previous 2, you have to carefully aim it. Using Annihilate and Bloom with this one will give you a larger explosive radius as well as added damage output from the enemies themselves exploding. The downside of this class is that it lacks defensive abilities. But, as they say, "the best defense is a good offense" Now that we've covered that, next is Sunsinger. This is a support class with a versatile set of offensive and defensive abilities. First, the grenades. Unlike Voidwalker, the Sunsinger grenades have more uses. There's the Firebolt Grenade, similar to the Hunter's Arcbolt Grenade, it seeks out and simultaneously fires a bolt at up to 3 nearby enemies. It has a large seeking radius and can even target enemies behind cover. Combined with Touch of Flame and Viking Funeral, it can do a lot of damage with an added DoT effect. A fun little fact that many may not know about is that two Firebolt Grenades can take down a Titan's Ward of Dawn. At least, that was the case in the beginning. They've been drastically reduced in strength since then. Next is the infamous Fusion Grenade. An explosive grenade that does massive damage once it latches on to a target. While a nuisance to unlucky victims in PvP, it's a very powerful grenade in PvE. Combined with Gift of the Sun, which provides you with an extra grenade, it's a near instant death to a high level Major or Ultra. Moving on to the melee, Scorch. A powerful melee that provides a brief DoT effect. Of the 3 modifiers for it, the only viable option, for the most part, is Flame Shield. It provides an overshield on a successful hit with Scorch. Lastly we have the Super, Radiance. This super recharges your grenade and melee, however, the speed is greatly effected by your Discipline and Strength stats. An interesting thing about this super is that you can spawn orbs with weapon kills while it is active. This is good for providing your team orbs at a safe distance if needed. With it are 3 modifiers. First, Song of Flame. This modifier allows Radiance to work on nearby allies, reducing the cooldown for their abilities as well as your own. Combined with the Heart of Praxic Fire exotic chest armor's perk, Praise the Sun, it will dramatically increase the cooldown speed for both you and your nearby allies. Next is Radiant Skin. This provides added protection while Radiance is active. Combine this with Flame Shield and Heart of the Praxic Fire, and you're nearly unstoppable. Lastly, the ever-so-hated Fireborn. This perk allows you to activate Radiance while dead to revive yourself. This one is more of a "last resort" ability, though many players misuse it, thus creating the stigma of Warlock inferiority. In most cases, this modifier is not needed as the other ones are more adequate in insuring your survival.

                              • Whatever my friendo. Susingers are orb powerhouses. Just put radiant skin on during a ROC strike and you're a walking valus Ta'aurc (Pre nerf) Self res becomes extremely handy in raids and probably the 3v3 modes as well though I don't ever play those. A Sunsinger should never be using self res unless it's during a heroic, nightfall, raid, or maybe 3v3 PvP. Voidwalkers are also orb powerhouses and love nuking hordes of EVERYTHING out of the mortal plane. Very fun. Make a Warlock, you won't regret it.
