Screw you, Bungie. I'm a 28-year-old man with a very good job, a wife and kid, a dog, and a house in the suburbs. I work full-time, only to want to play this stupid addicting game every moment I have to spare.
I dropped my first Gjallarhorn last night, and sitting here at work I feel like a kid who just got a cool new toy and can't wait to get home to play with it. Why do I care? It's a video game. What is the endgame here? I play for hundreds of hours to get new electronic weapons and gear? For what? There is really no benefit or utility gained for playing this game, other than a bit of fun while I'm doing it. But it's like a drug, and I have to have more of it.
This game gets so much crap from people, yet here we all are, scouring message boards during work or school, dreaming about going home and playing more. All you do is play the same thing over and over and over again, but we just can't put it down. I think I might have to open a Destiny rehab center, where people can come to wean themselves off of this soul-sucking form of entertainment.

1 ReplyIf you weren't playing Destiny would you be out making the world a better place or would you just piss your life away doing some other pointless crap? I'm happy doing nothing worthwhile. ;D

2 RepliesIts so nice to have a world to spend time in that isn't the waking one. Catharsis is considered the absolution of the effects life can have. Having things to worry about, hope for, strive against and defend that have nothing to do with our real life works very well for that. People do that many ways, sports fans, car enthusiasts, hunters, fishermen, hikers, campers, weekend warriors of all types.... There are lots of ways to mitigate the effect of living an adult life... But IMO the best way is to generate some orbs of light.

If not for destiny, I'd be bored out of my mind playing other, crappier games.

It's called entertainment.

Just put it down man. Any game is like that. Hell anything you do and make a habit of is this way. You just have to put it down and get your mind off of it. Is it easy, no, I'm not saying it is. But once you break the habit that's it. It's the same principle as driving home from work the same way, walking in the door hanging your keys on the same hook, sitting in the same chair, watching the same show etc...everything you do in life if you think about it you basically do out of habit. It's your routine lifestyle. Things get added or taken away but it's just your routine. There have been studies done that show after you do something around 30 or so times its becomes basically muscle memory. And unless you are continually reminding yourself not to, you will continue to do it. Just pre occupy yourself with something else. Make yourself take a break and eventually you won't have to make yourself, you just won't.

10 RepliesI understand exactly ehat you are saying........ I actually could do with a little help in deciding something. I have 3 different classes of character, all level 32 with maxed out weapons. I have been playing this game since Beta and have put a ridulous amount of hours into it. I am going to delete all but 1 of my classes and run with just one class. I cant decide which to keep as I like them all equally. I want to have just one player so it limits the actual amount of time i can play on this game and in a way force me into doing more social/ normal everyday life type activities. What do you think? Titan? (started on this class) Warlock? or Hunter?

For my own case this is what I figured out. Maybe 80% of my time in Destiny ended up as what I'll dub as moot-time. Moot-time occurs probably more in Destiny than any other game I've played for consoles. (Since I've never played games like WoW and MMO's I can't comment on those comparatively) I consider moot-time to be the time you spend gaming to try to gain satisfaction through goals or gains. Due to the RNG system the end-game relies on people engaging in copious amounts of moot-time. Sure going through VoG to get the Vex with a good group can be entertaining, but if the experience is just average it will feel like you haven't accomplished anything and need to play more. Take this example, a typical day in my time playing Destiny: I wake up and feel the need to play Destiny because I really want a gjallahorn. After completing crotas end a couple times for the exotic chance I get a single NLB. Then I find people to play the nightfall with, we go through it a couple times while joking and complaining about what Destiny lacks. I get 9 strange coins and a practically useless legendary fusion rifle. At this point 3 1/2 hours have passed and I turn the console off to go to the library to get some homework done. It then distracts me the rest of the day because that 3 1/2 hours did nothing to satisfy my need.

I almost bought a vita just so I can play at work. Pffft thank god I quit my job instead!
