Bump for a single currency with no cap...like the dollar.
I'd call it derp points. Derp points would be awarded based on the difficulty of the activity and success of the player.
Edit: Denominations are not separate currencies. You still need mats to purchase upgrades, this makes them a currency.
Edit 2: Some of you are confused and that's ok. Activision is good at what they do. Everything in grand theft auto is bought with money. Imagine playing gta and trying to upgrade a cars suspension only to find out you need special "suspension money". Don't kid yourself, they're all currencies.

Doesn't Eris take Black Wax Idol to buy stuff too? It would be great if we could do currency exchange for at least the most common forms used most like currency. Like: exotic shard = 7 sc; and if I can buy an exotic engram for 23 motes then dismantle it into a shard, I should be able to just convert those notes (and maybe some glimmer for processing fees) to 7 coins right? Then use those coins towards whatever is being sold.

Edited by Pcsolyar: 3/14/2015 6:44:54 AMMaterials are needed to upgrade because they are like weapon parts. You need the parts and some other materials to upgrade. Glimmer is the only currency of the City. Marks and Commendations show reputation and are a status symbol. The rest are parts and materials needed to make upgrades and modifications. Strange Coins are the only exception. They are a foreign currency. Motes of Light are also special. They are highly desirable curios.

1 ReplyWhiny Kids that think that the game should be catered to them and them alone.

1 ReplyYou forgot to list your money and my money in that list that destiny has.

I get what you're saying, and I'll explain it a little differently for people. I'll use skyrim as an example. I can't build an ebony war hammer with steel. Upgrade materials are part of video games, there's no way around it. but in skyrim you can sell a lot of steel for a little bit of ebony. Therefore making them a form of currency.

1 ReplyUpgrade materials aren't a currency...

Edited by MacheteSquad: 3/13/2015 11:54:29 PMMarks, glimmer, strange coins Cash, credit, debit Now spinmetal, spirit bloom, helium, and iron are sort of currency. There should be an option to pay more glimmer and skip the materials. These things are infused into items as materials. Shards and energy are not something people carry on them. Unless they are Guardians of course. Think of it this way, you are upgrading your suspension with a suspension kit no shop carries, so you bring them one and pay them to install it. So they are materials, people outside of guardians don't have easy access to them so you provide them. Now if you are doing your own crafting then there should be zero glimmer cost and only a material cost. Only exceptions are the planet materials they are borderline currency since they are easily obtained and shops would have access to them. Easy solution is a higher glimmer cost to skip the mats, or a lower glimmer cost with the mats provided. Edit: forgot about motes, those are currency, but I also forgot bitcoin

4 RepliesI wouldn't call all of those currencies but I agree with your point. Some of those are just material to forge new things
-
1 ReplyEdited by Somnogen: 3/13/2015 8:00:48 PMMaterials I wouldnt count as currency ;/ Truly you can only count: Glimmer(Base of everything) Vanguard marks (Only good for 2 vendors(vanguard only)) Crucible marks(Good for factions who want popularity in the crucible nothing else) Motes I consider more of a prestige item Coins ugh -.- Crucible and Vanguard Commendations up for debate.

1 ReplyDragon age has like 1000 materials lol.. Destiny is basic currency

4 RepliesGlimmer Strange coins Motes of light Vanguard marks Crucible marks Only these would qualify as any sort of currency. The commendations really are more just exchangeable awards.

5 RepliesYou think the dollar is the only currency in America?

1 ReplyI think there should be an exchange rate that is automatically adjusted depending on Destiny's economy. For example, you could trade all of your useless ascendant mats for radiant mats, class mats, glimmer, etc, but the market sets the rate. I might be chastised for referring to this example, but the Grand Exchange in Runescape seemed to have a decent system for tracking the value of items when I used to play it (not sure what it's like now). Without player trading, I don't imagine it would be difficult to keep the market balanced within reason.

1 ReplyEdited by Roughneck: 3/13/2015 10:06:54 PMMeh, the different mats are necessary to separate the DLC content. However, I do believe there should be an exchange rate between them allowing players to swap one DLC mat type with another (i.e. 10 ascended mats for 1 radiant mat). I also feel that mats should not take up vault space and that the 200 stack cap should be removed. There should just be a shared wallet that houses all mats without any limit to the stack size. Marks, motes, and coins should be given the same treatment as mats described above. As for money type currency, glimmer is the only one which should remain as is. However, it would be nice if they removed the cap.

1 ReplyEdited by TeslaDoc: 3/13/2015 10:17:27 PMMultiple currencies are how video game companies manage their economies. Without some brake on earning and currency sinks, everyone becomes a zillionaire. There no inflation because prices are rigidly controlled. Everyone ends up with the best gear. Then nobody needs to play parts of the game that are outside their narrow interests. Then the game dies because everyone has everything and there is no challenge (except for PvP).

3 RepliesYou do realize half those items you listed off are actually materials and not currency right?
facepalm
