It's because I've found something you'll probably want.
Note - If you are easily upset, you may not want to read on. This post contains details of someone being a horrible bully.
Last night, on patrollings, I find a chest. RNGsus has been very kind to me recently, so I'll grab every chest possible.
I spot 2 guys with similar gamertags about 50 mteres away, obviously in a fireteam, and I think to myself 'Hey, wouldn't it be the friendly thing to do to alert those two guys to my find, one of them might get a nice present from it'.
Just being a thoughtful Guardian like so many others I have met.
So,
'CombatNun13 waves'
'CombatNun13 waves'
'CombatNun13 points'
Nothing. Fair enough, they haven't seen me.
So I shoot one of them.
He stops and turns to me. Then walks away.
I shoot the other one, who also turns to me. He sends a rocket my way. Explodings.
Still looking at me.
'CombatNun13 points'
Then I shoot the doorway to the room with the chest in.
Still looking at me.
Goes into pause menu.
'New message from (can't remember his name)'
'Stop it. We don't f***ing want to play with you'
Whaaa?
So from now on, I will wave and point. Then I'll shoot you. Then if you don't come over, I'll get the chest myself.
If you aren't familiar with this kindness, if a Guardian is waving or shooting you, take notice, they're probably helping you :)
It's just so tough being a good guy sometimes :/

It's common sense to me that if another player is going out of their way to get my attention then something of interest is nearby. I only turn people down when I get a legitimate message asking to play.
-
...maybe if we could interact with randoms on patrol a little more than "waves" and "points and "dances" , there could be more successful communication, and thus a better co-op experience. Also, it would be a lot more fun and a more "mmo-like" experience if we could seamlessly group with these randoms on patrol instead of going into orbit then back to the ONE spawn point on the planet. Its shit like this that really takes me out of the game.

I feel your pain, had the same happen to me. I was shooting at someones feet & pointing to a chest, they turn around & rocket me in the face then run off?
-
Ya if I'm not on a fireteam I just open the chest
-
1 Replypeople are stupid
-
2 RepliesAfter a point and a volley I move on. Their loss. Some of the most zen moments in destiny for me have been coop farming with someone not in my fireteam though where we eventually learn the intricacies of each others runs and become more efficient together.
-
This happens to me all the time, minus the message. After I've shot at them, pointed/waved at them, and danced by the chest and they still don't bother with me, I'll open it myself. It's not my fault they didn't bother to check out what was going on. Also, if it wouldn't hurt, a simple wave to acknowledge someone went out of their way to not open a chest until you got there would be nice. I hate it when they just grab it and pretend I wasn't there >_>
-
1 ReplyDo they not get the chest if you open it first? If so all that pointing and shooting I've been doing seems a lot more obnoxious
-
3 RepliesI do the same thing, except I point and then dance. Some people notice what I'm doing and then follow me around and go from chest to chest, each of us pointing if we found one. I love coming across these people. Then there are the players completely oblivious to what you're trying to tell them, those players do annoy me because they're sometimes the ones running super fast from chest to chest opening them without returning the courtesy I was giving to them. These people I do not like.

I have had guardians do this since day one. At least for me it was pretty easy to pickup when they were trying to communicate without any voice chat. Once I go in and see the chest or whatever I usually wave to show my thanks. What I don't like is when people come into an area and start ruining your farming run by cutting in the middle. You can usually tell when somebody is doing a farming loop. Don't be a jerk by cutting in ahead, just meet up with them so you both can benefit.
-
Hey I appreciate the point outs
-
Exactly how I feel most of the time
-
I feel ya bro. Struggle is real
-
I do the same thing, if someone looks like they are farming stuff too. If they don't get the point I move on. What drives me nuts is when I have been farming an area for a while a person comes running in and starts running all over and tries to find chests and doesn't even think to join us in the farming round. Then it becomes a waste of time.
-
I do this a lot but I grab the chest and laugh.
-
16 RepliesYeah if you shoot me I will end up doing the same thing, I could really care less about a chest you found that has a uncommon and if your lucky 2 spirit bloom, it's' obnoxious. Real world example, from now on if you want to get someone's attention walk up to them and slap them upside their head, I give you at least 2-3 chances before someone turns around and kicks your a@#
-
You know, you can report that message to psn and they will take action against it. You did nothing to provoke them and they used very offensive language against you for no good reason.
-
Haha, I do the same thing. I waste some serious time trying to alert others to chests. I just feel bad popping one alone when there are players nearby. I'd say about half understand what I'm doing and the other half return fire and run away.
-
2 RepliesLol! Yesterday, I saw someone collecting some Helium filaments. I shot at the filaments and they pointed at him and then back to the filaments. That person then continued to show me a farming run!
-
I do the same!!! If I shoot at you it either means get out of the way enemies won't spawn with you 2 feet away. Or it means I found a chest for us to open.
-
2 RepliesI always point and shoot at what I am pointing at. Would say that maybe 20% of the time, someone will actually take notice. The far more common response, though, seems to be watching that person dance in response to me pointing. However, I've had a good run at chests, of late. Had one that I know saw me last week, as he/she danced after I pointed. I pointed again, he/she danced again. I watched, and waited, and the person started heading away, so I opened the chest; only to watch that person hightail it over once it said that I found a Legendary engram. Not sure if a "jackpot" chest for one player is a "jackpot" chest for all, though.

1 Replythis happens to me all the time (minus the hate mail). if others are around and I'm farming I point, dance, wave....it even turned into a dance party one time. most people don't care though sadly
-
29 RepliesThey should make it so that when you point at a chest it says "XXX points at a chest" just like when you point at a player.
-
Keep doing your thing CombatNun13, There are many that appreciate it. I do the same thing. Hopefully when they read this thread if they know how to read they will feel like idiots! :p

2 RepliesMy very first exotic weapon was from a chest in the Cosmodrome on Patrol :)
-
8 RepliesEdited by TitanKnight: 11/26/2014 7:39:37 PMPf, I open the chest and run away as fast as possible. So far, less than 50 players have helped me or guided me to a chest or something else of value, the rest just rush into the damn thing open it, and by the time I get there (I am sorry, it's not my fault the Titans do not have that extra speed and that triple jump to reach high places) the chest is already gone.... The day I stopped helping others was when this MOTHERFU.... dude, opened a chest on mars. I was a few clicks away but I saw that chest with a sniper rifle, as I was saying, that SON OF A B.... Gentlemen opened the chest, got a couple of legendary engrams, I sparrow-ed all the way to the chest only to see it disappear in front of my Fu... Beautiful eyes.
Pardon my triggers.... I get angry easily, but I can control myself at least.
