So, let me provide a disclaimer before going on a short rant: Destiny is the first FPS I've played since Counter-Strike (yes, I played that in college, in the early 2000's), and the first sort-of MMO I've ever played in my life. I decided to get Destiny mainly for the FPS aspect, not so much the role-playing, leveling-up one. I love this game, though I'm eager for the expansions, and hopefully more beyond that, as the years go by.
I just ran across some comments where a player said that it was another player's fault that he didn't have Fatebringer (you know, the Hard Raid gun that still has to be given by RNGesus). This really angered me, but had me thinking about the bigger picture. I've seen a lot of trolling on this forum with players trash-talking others, because they haven't done this, haven't done that, have trouble solo'ing Nightfalls, Heroic strikes, whatever. They haven't maxed out their guns...that's even a point to criticize someone on, apparently.
Let me give a few statistics from my profile (obviously you can look this up): The big one, a 0.83 K/D in the Crucible. GUESS WHAT? I don't care! You know why? I have fun playing it. I like playing with a team, and at least getting "important" kills. As for Strikes, I die doing Tiger Strikes sometimes, you know why? I like to run and gun like an idiot, because it's a video game that allows for that. Of course, if it were real life, I wouldn't do that. Nobody would, you'd try to find cover. But there will be people to revive me. And I will do the same for them.
I'm 33, I didn't play video games (regularly) for at least 10 or so years, after college, aside from having a PSP to pass the time. I'm an accountant, my girlfriend is getting her PhD in child psychology. We eat healthy, however you want to define that. Basically what I'm trying to get across to some of you is that we actually have lives outside of video games. Video games are fantasy. They're not real. I don't spend hours on end practicing getting the perfect headshot every single time I fire. I DO like getting assists in the Crucible, because I want my team to win. I try to get double-digit assists, actually. Weird, I know. It's like trying to be the John Stockton or Chris Paul of Destiny.
Basically, for the trolls, understand that I and others don't play as often as you. We don't CARE about it as much as you, because there are more pressing issues in the real word. I SUCK at Destiny...and I'm ok with that. I have fun doing it. Do you really want to look back, when you're (hopefully) in your 60's, with a destroyed liver and kidneys from chugging Monster to stay up playing these games, and struggle to find some justification for it? To the GREAT players, who also are nice people who understand some players don't put as much time into it, but love to play with them all the same, a HUGE thank you.
Out.
Edit: Much appreciation for the positive responses, as well as the thought-provoking ones.
2nd Edit: Uh oh...looks like the Hive has struggled to get out of bed, finally...
3rd Edit: It said "Over and out."...but I changed it to just "Out" for the sticklers!!! >:(

A lot of people here don't know what the outside is. Most of the hard core trollers who take the game seriously are the types that live and breathe video games so for them it is life. Good post. The biggest thing about trolls are they seek a reaction and response. Ignore them because honestly who cares what some person behind a screen says.

7 RepliesWhat you don't seem to understand is the majority of these "gamers" These days are spoiled 12 year olds, hence the amount of sophomoric behavior in the forums of most AAA games, as well as on mics in the game world. I think most of us who grew up in the golden age of gaming with SNES, Sega Genesis, etc. are just happy to have the new tech of these new gen consoles and are just enjoying our time with the games. I find it pretty funny honestly how seriously some people take gaming and PVP these days, especially when PVP in most console games is not that great when you compare it to actual MMOs and PC games.
