Thoughts and Opinions about Atheon's Revenge.

So, the update just went live. Atheon can no longer be pushed off his platform. He'll also select people at random to be thrown across time. He's a real bastard, eh? I talked a lot to the developers about your opinions on the matter. You don't want to be selected at random. You want to choose who gets to fetch the Relic under fire from those nasty Oracles. I spoke on your behalf. Your voice was heard. We discussed your concerns. I even said "Why not just change Hard Mode and leave Easy Mode alone?" I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy." At that point, I recalled all the times I stood and delivered the line "...the most challenging encounter we've ever created." It was hard to disagree. As a veteran of Cairo Station on Legendary in Halo, I had to admit that I had been carried through the Raid like luggage assigned to my clan. I did my own carrying later, but carrying had been done. This is an activity that was designed to be undertaken by a hardcore team that is ready and willing to adapt and improvise to changing battle conditions. Like the moment when the Templar shields random players, the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous. While we've been working on some of the other things for which you've been asking (i.e. better exotics, voice chat in matchmaking, more bounties), the designers who made the Raid have plugged the holes that you showed them. If you got in on the ground floor of this thing, we thank you. If you understand the mechanics for how to beat Atheon, it's still a thing you can teach your friends. If you're all up to the challenge, the Raid is waiting for you. Let's talk about it. Please sound off in this thread, and know that I'll be reading.

  • Well, since randomness dominates your game anyway, I am okay with that change. Its is supposed to be a challenge for everybody, sure, why not. HOWEVER: if you implement a new or change an old mechanic, make it so it actually works as it should. Its not fun having only one guy teleported right at the end of the fight. Please test your fixes bevor you upload them on the public servers... Cause this is not enhancing the experience.

  • Hey deej guess what atheon bitch ass was killed in 2 teleports by me and some friends earlier on hard. You guys need to make the Crota raid completely different from the vault, by different I mean original mechanics not just the same shit with a side of Pepsi.

    I think it was in poor taste to address exploits over actual glitches that disrupt your gameplay in VoG. I have beat Atheon normally and by exploit, I honestly didn't feel any more accomplished having shot him instead of watching team mates grenading him. Who actually WANTS to complete the raid as intended if a real glitch causes you to restart? Or worse, completing it to be rewarded with shards. Can you imagine beating Atheon on hard , normally, just for ANOTHER ship? I personally am not at all bothered by the drops, but I know many who are. You can't expect people to purchase an upcoming DLC with level 32 raids when people cannot gain their gear for level 30. Glitches aside, I find the most annoying thing is the random teleport. Yes, it can help people familiarize themselves with different roles in the raid, but that can be done at any person's choosing, and not at the expense of everyone's time. What is the point of having oracle disruptors if people who haven't gotten any go through the portals? I know this is not a necessity, but playing the raid on hard, it helps tremendously. It can also end up teleporting the lowest rank players, meaning one has to grab the relic and then most often die because of it. Sometimes explaining the functions, doesn't actually help the person using it. There are also those panic moments that you try to figure out who has been teleported to see if you are the one that is suppose to pick it up, wasting useful charge time. It just completely takes the strategy out of VoG. I enjoy social aspect of the raid more than any loot I can get. But now I can hear the frustration whenever I get into a raid, because it takes too long to beat Atheon, if at all. Not everyone can actually get online more than once a week to resume a save point. Some groups are lucky to have just 1 person that knows what they are doing, but now they are basically penalized for playing with inexperienced raiders. The most infuriating thing is knowing you would have beat Atheon, but didn't because of the selected portal team.

      so did anyone else experience numerous bugs like listed here http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2kofuh/vault_of_glass_after_1023_glitch_report/ after the latest patch? cause they made it literally impossible to do(on hard) unless you luckily role the dice and just get a minor bug during the last stage of atheon. am i the only person who feels this game was released months if not a year too soon? with some major patch coming out every week that somehow makes the game even buggier. i hope bungie gets its s*** together soon and actually fix some of these bugs please. i know i am coming off as a complainer but i really want to play a clean and polished game. not a game that "has amazing graphics" but has smooth gameplay instead.

      • After about 5 hours and 4 group reforms we finally beat VoG on Hard. I received in this whole run, shards and the ship. I was/am so angry with the loot system in the game I dont even want to play it anymore. I have several people I play with weekly that feel the same way. I only get to play 2-3 times a week and just in the evenings. I've ran the Vault over 6 times and have received one piece of raid gear. I will never hit 30 before the new content because of the sh*tty RNG drops. I hate the random loot drops in the game. I really get rewarded with the legendary sparrow for completing Vault on Hard! WTF! How does that help me in the future of raiding? I guess i can use my sparrow to get to the plates faster when opening the portal. I have all these shards and no gear to upgrade. I would rather have been rewarded with 10 relic iron, spirit bloom, or some other mats then the dumba** sparrow. We wouldve completed the Atheon teleporting phase alot quicker if it werent for the existing issues in the game. Random oracle deaths when all have been killed. Not teleporting us out of the portal, then having to run back through several times to find my teammates , then have less than 10 secs to attack Atheon. The teleporting part of the game doesnt bother me as much as i thought, because it teaches everyone to learn all parts of the raid. - RNG needs fixed for raids! - VoG issues since day 1. - Farming for mats is time consuming and stupid. Why cant a chest hold more than 2? Why do i have to farm for them for hours. Why cant you drop 5+ from completing the weekly, nightfall, VoG on top of the other loot? - Call The Dark Below DLC not an expansion. An expansion adds tons of content to a game (new planets, class, gear, raids, races, etc). DLC adds a few things (more missions, gear, a raid). You have DLC coming out, not an expansion. I wish i didnt love this game so much, but the issues at hand are starting to wear on me. It may be time to play something else.

      • Things that need to be looked at about the patch. 1) Ammo Synth bug (we've had this bug for awhile now, not sure if anything is being done about it. burning one and it not giving ammo) 2)Antheon bullet soaking (on hard it took us 6 hours to finally burn him down, 3 one day 3 the next) 3)About the time it takes to beat one boss basicly a whole evening spent at one boss is a bit excessive (we were a grp of very experienced VoG players 3 lvl 30s 3 lvl 29's) 4)The issue is only with the final boss everything else went normal if the ammo syns were working it might not have been such an issue. 5) he can still be walked I don't personally know much about game making but isn't there a walking path you can set him to so he can't go past a certain point? 6) porting bug we ran into it several times once was harsh because we could have finished him he was really low but when he ported a random 3 he only ported 1 and we wiped.       • personally, I think yall screwed up. you took the lazy way out of "fixing" the push. instead of fixing it you guys cheesed out and put a bandaid that people are already getting around. the random teleport? its nothing on normal, good chance for everyone to learn all positions. on hard ontop of all the bugs, it makes it damn near impossible. every 2 or 3 times, sometimes even every time for a while, there is a bug that causes a wipe. either not enough people are teleported or to many or the enemies dont take damage or the gate sends you from venus to mars when trying to leave it. or it sends you out facing atheon. if you fix the actual bugs with the game before making changes like this it would go over much smoother with the players.

      • I realize the raid was never supposed to be "easy" and let me assure you, "IT'S NOT!" At least for those of us who don't aren't MLG'ers. I hate that people call the level 26, "EASY MODE." It's not. I've been through 4 times, twice after the revenge and it's still hard. I struggle mightily at some points. I do not like that you altered the game mechanics because you never saw the cliff when you made the level and didn't realize gravity affects Atheon too. I dislike even more than you did this without addressing the bugs in level. Bugs that I have seen plenty of in my mere FOUR runs. We all like a challenge and if this game is in fact about teamwork, let us use teamwork to help people and not be one homogeneous group who must know every facet of the raid. Perfect answer for this... make Atheon's Revenge kick in if it take more than a set about of time streams to kill him.

      • I want to enjoy this game with our clan mates and friends, while teaching them one role, then another role. Giving them a job and letting them learn in pieces. Not trying to teach them everything at once to beat Atheon then watch them fail time after time while 5 other clan mates try to reassure them that they will get it eventually. The clan I am in spends more time trying to get people up to speed on Atheon than most of the other raid parts. After all, once we finally get people all on the same page, Atheon just glitches and teleports 5 of us into the time stream. "Hey new guy, you finally got it right, too bad Bungie can't fix their bugs, try again." If the "final boss" was suppose to be extremely dangerous why do we get a damage bonus to hit him? Besides we all know the cryptarch remains the real final boss.

      • Just beat the dickbag again tonight legit. Yay another damn chatterwhite and shards! Would be nice if I had some damn raid armor to spend the damn shards on. Got the helm and then the game pretty much decided to say eff your armor bro...but I keep playing. Someday I might wise up. 108 shards in the bank. *sigh*

        • Just beat the raid a few times with the new update on normal and hard and would like to provide my feedback. I will specifically be addressing the teleportation implementation in this update. Normal mode: Overall, this mode was still fairly easy with randoms so long as the party had level 28+. I found that some people just flat out need weeks more practice with the relic which really made me miss the role designation pre-patch. The cool thing is, however, with the proper strategy (explained to randoms) a team can take out atheon in 2-4 portal runs. If you just have 2 players who know how to use the relic, you have quite good odds of clearing it. This mode definitely teaches players to experience different roles and I don't see any need to revert this implementation. Hard mode: Without a +2 level bonus advantage, this implementation makes hard mode... hard. I joined with randoms and we just flat out could not do it as a team of 29s. I did find, however, team skill is way more important in this mode. I managed to join a team of 3 30s and 3 29s where 3 of the members were friends with good team chemistry. After adopting their strategy we were able to clear atheon in just three portal runs. I feel hard mode, especially with random roles, greatly encourages more dedicated team play vice playing with randoms which i feel fits this mode perfectly. Great work.

        • one of the biggest problems i find is that 1 or 2 people are sent through instead of 3 everytime, so if you can fix that issue it would be nice

        • Hey Deej, this is what I'd like to hear from you next time: "You the community wanted XYZ. We discussed it, the devs said no, and I reminded them that you are our customers. So enjoy XYZ!" I mean, how is it acceptable in your company to release a statement where you acknowledge that your customer base wants something (or in this case doesn't want something) and essentially tell us that the devs gave us the finger? I love this game, or did until just now. If this is the kind of treatment i can expect to receive throughout your 10 year plan across multiple games guess who wont be a customer any more? I didn't hear a single person clamoring for the random teleports, did you? And let me be clear, assuming this hadn't caused more glitches the teleporting isn't the issue. The issue is with how you treat the community and that ignoring us and then blatantly telling us you don't care about our opinion is infuriating. So, i'm going to do my own patch/hotfix. Here are the details: Fixed bug that allowed me to purchase any other products from Bungie.

          • I am glad they made the ports random, and before I get burned at the stake for speaking such blasphemy.....My rationale for this is, because it forced me to learn how to be flexible and learn all aspects of the raid. When running Vog before the patch I had only known one role. Keep the sync plates open. I had never set foot inside the portal or handled a relic. Every group I had been with had an experienced portal team who knew how to use the relic and shoot the oracles. I had grown comfortable sitting on top the gate, gleefully shooting at suicide harpies, but because of this patch I had to take the time to learn the ins and outs of the ports. I have become a better player because of it, I had to step outside of my comfort zone if I wanted my team to succeed.
