I am not talking about loot rewards. As in game play loop rewards. Such as: I have the presence of mind to read my opponents moves and defeat 3 of them, with the reward being a guarded increase to the build up of my super. Im aware thats how it current works, I am just trying to be as clear as possible.
Or in a more abstract way. I was able to read my opponents moves on the chess board, after which counter play I was able to remove his/hers board presence/control from a specified area.
This is a bit of a loaded question, as most people will say yes you should be rewarded in such a way. Which is what the ammo transmat system did in PvP by Bungie's own omission with no mincing of words or asterisk attached. However such a system proved unpopular with the majority & Bungie citing players behind a skill band were achieving more heavy ammo kills then special ammo kills over the course of a match on a regular basis. I say this hoping we can all see the hypocrisy of complaining about ammo transmat when it was the better system. Instead of this current 1-1-1 system that chokes the game with special ammo spam/crutching. No it was not perfect and the rate the ammo transmat gauge filled could be improved on. But it was still a great system.
I could see this becoming a "rich get richer" type of situation really fast. I don't care either way, since it's not really my scene, but if I could see people getting really frustrated by this if they're on the losing side.

7 RepliesPlug a controller in and use an auto rifle. That is controller player skill......controller players have no skill as their input AIMS FOR THEM.

In general, yes.

6s and 3s are two different ballgames - I don't think anyone will argue with that. In 6s you have a huge risk of the snowballing effect with anything.. cause there are more targets and skill levels.. thats fine for a specialized playlist or goofing off like mayhem but I want everybody on a level playing field with weapons/gunplay/movement.. and their choice of subclass.. without letting someone slay out due to even perks or exotics too much.. (there is no worse feeling right now than dying to a graviton lance blob with 9-10 resil and full health in cover while a teammate got hit). In 3s these development unbalances are easier to scrape under the carpet.. and I'm not sure what is fair. I wish there were specialized rotator modes that allowed.. bows.. snipers.. etc to only shine.. but I prefer the all-primary play.. I do miss fusions a bit but shotgunners are a plague and I hate them and their families... j/k j/k So just so I am clear here.. in PVP this is not PVE.. you should not get almost any benefit for being a better player... other than enjoyment and winning... no more bonuses that make you a better player.. thats fine for non-human enemies in PVE.. that makes no competitive sense.. I know some of you don't touch grass or play sports.. but just think about sports... you don't get more points because you score points... you just continue to play the match as hard as you can... does that make sense? -
1 ReplyNo, you should get all the prizes just for participating

Comp for sure, and trials. Quickplay not so much but would be nice to see some decent rewards or updates loot pool for Quickplay

1 ReplyDestiny 2 pvp has never been about skill. This is the only pvp game I have played in my life where a top tier player can lose to absolute trash level players for a multitude of reasons such as loadout, connection, bugs, etc. Also the transmat system is one of the best things ever added to Destiny 2 pvp but there was undoubtedly a problem with how it rewarded better players. I’m a top 0.1% player, I win the majority of my games and easily stomp 99.9% of the player base. I’ve talked about this with friends of similar skill level and we all agree that the transmat system had a problem with how to rewarded green ammo. It’s idiotic that I can steam roll a team and the game keeps giving me more ammo to keep running over the same team, meanwhile they can’t get a single green drop. I should be rewarded for playing well, but there’s a level to it.

problem is snowballing. giving good players a mechanic to abuse will lead to lobby stomping, breaking up matches and people leaving pvp. then we will be at the same spot we were a few years ago where queue times were long and even quickplay was sweaty

I think there should be a lot of special ammo available in 6s. I however also think that special weapons (and honestly all weapons and abilities) should be far less lenient. As to give a higher potential yield, but a lower overall yield due to difficulty in reaching the maximum potential.

I much prefer the special ammo meter concept, but it needs tuning. Bungie did mention a while back they are rebuilding it from scratch. It’s a real shame they couldn’t figure out the special ammo in time for TFS — it’s a huge missed opportunity to boost PvP numbers. I agree players should be rewarded for skill and good decision making, but anything that rewards stronger ammo can lead to snowballing. That has to be carefully controlled, whichever system is used.

They do that well with the special ammo bar. You get a bunch of kills? Here, have some shotgun ammo. The people crying about this are the same people who went their entire battlefront 2 career without ever playing as a jedi

6 RepliesComp, sure. Quickplay, meh who cares. Most people are goofing off in there.

1 ReplyIt’s disgusting how much people like the ammo meter. Seeing a crucible filled with double primary weapon slots is a shame to the game. Special ammo spam is what made the matches quick and exciting and knowing your opponent always had special really left you and them open to punishment for small mistakes. For someone who claims they excel at reading their opponent’s yets complains about what the special ammo economy really proved about someone in mid to high skill lobbies. I just don’t get it. Bring back special ammo spam. Bring back snipers. Bring back Lorentz. Let’s have some fun again.

1 ReplyDefinitely a loaded question as stated, and I think loaded as asked. Obviously logic would dictate that better players should do better, and even lower skill players would probably agree with this, though in my experience the ones who don't will cite their own experience feeling unfair or attacking high skill players as toxic for wanting to be rewarded for being high skill. Now to address what I think is a bit more of a targeted argument on the ammo economy. I personally like the ammo meter more, it felt like I was being rewarded for doing well and encouraged a playstyle I already engaged in, primaries first special for counter abd support. Obviously this system does help better players more. I hate boxes. They ruin the flow, allow for too much ammo, abd cause discord both between teams and the objective of the match. It's a annoying distraction 1/1/1 system. I find this system "inoffensive" at best, I get a shot to start. And I get ammo for getting a primary kill. It does reward me for being good but also for dying or camping a brick spawn. It feels like a wishy washy approach. This is a bit long, but I feel the issue they are trying to balance in too large a potential skill gap, on the high end special can be incredibly oppressive and the low it can be so ineffective without mass amounts if it they feel it's neer useless and as destiny has gone on the disconnect in high skill and low skill players has been the hardest thing to balance. I still think crucible should be catered to crucible players, and we've moved in that direction more than less over the last year.
