Destiny 2 - Whats the point right now?
I'm on my summerbreak from work and it is raining. I'm starting Destiny 2 and were should my attention go? Do strikes again? Gambit, for the love of god no, how that mode is still in the game is beyond me.
So what is the draw of this season? Is it the hord mood on the Leviathan were you for the 20th season in a row kill hords of enemy's, pick up what they drop to later dunk it at base so you at the end get to open a chest and get weapons you can use in the same hord mood or the tired Crucible?
What is the point with the game? Recycling the same boring venues you seen and experienced over and over except they added some minor graphic details is not new. Moving the same boring hord mood to different locations to drive a story each season is not innovative, just lazy.
Putting a Halloween theme on Mercury, Spores on the Leviathan or floating island in the EDZ and just recycling the same hord mood and calling it new and charging people money for it should be looked at as a scam.
So my question is: Is this what the game is? Will every season be this recycled mind-numbing thing you do so you can open a chest to get loot you already got two years back?

5 RepliesI’m a day 1 addict of destiny. I say addict because there would be no other explanation as to why I still play. Why I still buy $50 in silver every dlc, sometimes $100 in silver. Any normal person I know who has played the game, didn’t play for very long and never came back to it. Nerfs and buffs, sunset to unsunset, d1 gear as new gear, no character re customization option. Drip fed story diluted to us by the week. Never really fix any of the things the majority ask for. Always change stuff that nobody wanted changed. It’s feels sometimes like psychological bullying.

93 RepliesThe game is in a rut right now. Destiny 1 was popular (despite its obvious flaws) because there was a great deal of flexibility in terms of how people wanted to play, and what they chose to play. Destiny 2 is in a rut because Bungie is trying to over-control and micromanage every aspect of the game. What content we play. When we play it. What loadouts we play when we do it. So people find themselves running around a very narrow range of activities. Being dictated by the Milestone and Pinnacle systems….. With a very narrow set of loadouts. Dictated by the design of content and the champion mechanic. As a result the content and the play loop gets really stale really quickly because there is no freedom to interact with the game creatively. I find myself playing less, not more, in the face of this.

Destiny punishes you if you play endlessly. I honestly don't think this game actually appeals to anyone once they get over that "new game high" most players experience when they pick up a brand new game that isn't immediately offensive. Destiny takes a couple months of weekly play to really start seeing why you should spend your time elsewhere. It's strange. There is no facet of this game that caters to any particular kind of player. It's as if it's designed solely to take advantage of people who install it because it's free, drop 20-30 bucks on Silver for the cash shop, play for a month, then never come back because there's nothing to keep you interested. What kind of business model is that, and what does that say about the modern gaming environment if you can cater to [i]that [/i]and still make money?

All season content is just Gambit without the other team. Anything new takes a LFG and is end game content. There is nothing to just sit down and relax at the end of the day. Not only is it content that’s a few years old. They also removed half of the stuff you could play. It’s a bad game. We are just invested because we’ve put so much time in. I’ve kind of just stopped playing at this point.

1 ReplyWhat’s the point of any live service game with a battle pass? At least there’s a bit of variety with destiny. Plus If you’ve been playing consistently for seasons not taking long breaks you’ve damn near done most if not everything there is to do. Hang up your guns and play something else until the next event or season, or play something else. Burnout is real with this game. No one will blame you.

2 Replies“What’s the point” The reason why hundreds of thousands of people still play this game is because it’s fun. Bungie is doing really well feeding the power fantasy many and myself included enjoy. It doesn’t hurt that the story is pretty good right now. Believe it or not a lot of people actually enjoy mindlessly shooting aliens. And even if they didn’t, go do a dungeon or raid! Those have amazing mechanics NO fps game has.

Those bright dust and some shiny new toys are pretty much the only things that get my attention. But yeah this game has been around for a long tome and is starting to wear me down. I took a break to play some other games and when I came back, Destiny 2 felt a little bit of a mess. I felt like my guns in my vault were disorganized and still feel that way continuously. If this game wasn’t so grindy, then I would’ve enjoyed it more often. Maybe. Depends. On the contents.

1 ReplyWell, I’m 1572 and I can’t do a grandmaster until I’m 1585. That’s ridiculous! Especially since +2 pinnacles are painstaking and most, if not all require LFG. So I have to use LFG to get anywhere near 1585? I paid for the game so I play every now and again but I seriously doubt I’ll pay for anything else. Harbinger/Presage/Exo challenge we’re all soloable and all +2 and all enjoyable. It’s f-ing stupid that solo players get locked out of content! The +1 only route will not get me to 1585

Last season mission done this morning 25 more levels to go for the pass and meh. It's just boring now. Bungie's forced loadouts for D2 just takes away from trying things out all season. You're too restricted to how they want you to play the little bit of content they release. No desire to do any of the +1 pinnacle activities for the 1000+th time because they'll just drop that pinnacle in my highest slot for no gain anyways. I'm also not interested in their "lets monetize everything" approach with selling event passes, separate dungeons, etc. Maybe I'll pick up Tiny Tina or something for the shooting and looting. I took a few weeks off Destiny for the most part to play through AC Origins and didn't really miss it.

The point is to enjoy the unfortunately drip fed story in anticipation of future content and hopefully jaw-dropping plot twists but being mindful that you will likely be disappointed depending on your expectations. Take it for what it is - an expensive content draught with gunplay that never gets boring and infinite possibilities (lol jk). I do love the gunplay and power fantasy moments in Destiny so much though. And the sci-fi environments are only matched by halo. But infinite forest though. And 7 year wait to find out what the stranger was not telling us, and that the darkness is actually represented by a man that looks like a minions villian that vaped too much.

Get all three characters past the powerful cap, do pinnacles on all three characters, and then play whatever activity you want to do since most activities now don’t have a loot cap and can be infinitely farmed.

The point is they are literally taking our money with this season nonsense. Enough. Besides that, the grind is tedious because of champions and forced Loadouts with mods changing every season. Getting really boring.

I mean coming from the company that said making content is hard, but has the audacity to announce to the world that they have multiple new projects in the pipeline, but then continues to throw recycled content over and over for years here!😂😂😂 That right there shows you there is nothing here!😂😂😂 I stopped buying when Activision left because I knew the game has become hollow and empty. It has gotten worse since then like a landslide. Everything went downhill! Including the payment scheme. Yep, feels like a scheme!😂😂😂 There is nothing here but desperation! I’m so glad I cut the rope a long time ago! This game is drifting dead in shallow waters, so shallow you could literally walk on water! 😂😂😂 Empty! 😂😂😂 Nothing here but desperation!

4 RepliesThe point is that there is no point, no end designation. In fact it was "leaked" that Bungo is working on a Destiny-esk mobile game. Take it with a grain of salt though, as well, nothing is confirmed and or set in stone so to speak. As such D2 just seems to be a cash cow, nothing more. Better to find better games out there. I know I have, ever since 2020. I suggest you do the same.

To have fun. It’s a video game. I’m back and forth between Zelda OoT and destiny right now. Been playing Zelda a lot more though.
