  • Im two years into getting my degree, but really one year into the actual experience because the whole first year was online (which was genuinely awful and a huge waste of time and money, I would have taken a gap year but didnt think Id be able to find work). I think school is great. I enjoy learning but in high school I always hated being forced to learn about stuff I didn't care about, now every single class I take is stuff I am super interested in. I feel like being deeply educated and well read on a subject is a great feeling; my program is a major in political science with a certificate in law which is not the most lucrative use of an education in terms of job prospects, but I've more or less convinced myself that I am here to learn not to get a job... if I was here to get a job I would have done computer science, which I almost did, but that's not the type of "smart" that I want to be in 4 years.

    • It was a long time ago, but still remember it like yesterday, and are not filled with warm memories. Some was great, some was ok, but the elements that sucked outweighed the good. (run on sentence inbound) This was during the time they started pushing out teaching trades that people really should know and that they are a valid option, as opposed to teaching things to kids that they will never - not ever apply to daily life UNLESS they go into highly specific fields that require such teaching, and make them feel terrible for not being able to follow let alone pass the unneeded, useless class(es).

    • I was a poor as dirt, dark haired ginger, nerd, atheist, tomboy who wore my uncles hand-me-downs in a small rural american town surrounded by corn. The bullies went to Sunday cult club along with their parents and the school faculty, so obviously they could do no wrong and the only punishments handed out were for me when I'd defend myself. Snapped drumsticks, shoes and clothes tossed in the trash during PE, stolen bike chain and slashed tires, snapped skateboard, cut up backpacks, pushed down stairs, gum in hair, lovely poems and jokes dedicated to me in the bathroom stalls, black eyes and broken noses and bloody knuckles, a lot of stuff less memorable and worse stuff that'd break the code of conduct. School sucked. People suck.

      • Let's just say that if I ever met whoever came up with the idea of America's education system during my time in it I would break their legs, ribcage, spine, jaw, and arms. Then I'd force them to learn something they don't want to, if they're still alive. If they fail the test, I kill them. As long as I could get away with it, anyway.

        • Is "school" K-12? My opinion is very different K-12 vs. college.

          • Graduated 2 years ago... It was fncking hell... Never again with that hell hole... You had smart bullys who had the power to destroy your academic career, and did so regularly and wouldnt get in trouble cause their parents were working for the office you had teachers doing messed up -blam!-, to their students and you had the school board lie through their teeth about incdents at the school...

            • I had a great time in highschool. Me and my friends made the most of every day. University however. The best word I can use to describe my University experience is 'lonely'. Even if you made a friend it was almost always just until that class ended then you never talk to them or see them again lol. Also very uninviting environments since everyone just wants to get their lectures over with and leave.

              • It’s fine. Not exceptional, but not bad either. I’m homeschooled and kinda miss public school.

I really didn't like it at the time, I felt like it was a huge waste of time. Years after high school I really fell in love with history.
