My take (Veterans Day)

Disabled Veteran, not goin to speak for all or anyone, but myself. I am happy I live a 'normal' existence now, my friends, my family, my coworkers all know this day is a quiet reflection for me to look back to those I served with. They are not required to thank me for service, in fact, it's a running joke between service members, veterans, and friends. By all means, fight for what you feel needs to be fought for...but this is a game, the company itself does put a lot of effort into caring for people as a whole, myself, I am honored that they want to help people. Thank you Bungie for what you do. *Here's how I hope you honored those that served, shook a veterans hand, said a silent prayer (or had a calming thought) for veterans across the WORLD. *I don't need to see the Thank You for your Service impersonal letter you see posted everywhere, by corporations and governments that actually use it as a tool to promote themselves. *I don't need or want an emblem, I have a 'stack' in a shadow box that says what I am and what I've done. **I'm done Bungie, it was another topic, idea, or whatever the -blam!- this was...a talking point based on emotions, please delete this, I don't know why I joined this crap. People are people and honestly I'm waiting for death while obeying a dogma that doesn't allow me to kill myself...I'm so tired and bored of everything, don't kill myself but jump at getting myself killed, but it hasn't happened yet. Anyways, I'm out of this...this whole thing you got going on. probably going to have to lock the thread and...I'll just let this get downvoted to hell, and prolly going to piss people off

  • I'm married to a veteran who is 100% disabled. 1.) Not recognizing veterans ON Veteran's Day is disgusting. 2.) Locking posts of people who do recognize veterans ON Veteran's Day is GROSS. This has nothing to do with emblems or piece of candy. It's the very carefully calculated disrespect for our veterans. We uninstalled the game here. I hope everyone else does the same.

    • I just think this whole thing of needing to be "recognized" no matter what Bungie or any company does or doesn't support is blown out of proportion. It brings in a lot of unnecessary conversations. There is nothing wrong with supporting whatever anyone does support, but trying to push what you support is not the way to go at all. You mentioned something that is annoying with most companies and this is what most are about these days... Trying to "look good" That is more of the issue than what is or isn't supported by whatever company.

I understand how you feel, and what you said holds weight for all of us Marines. A lot of these people on here don't know what it means to be in the spots you were put in so they speak out of ignorance. Know you matter and your opinion matters. Keep yourself safe Marine and continue living your life. No matter what you will always be a Marine and will always be a part of the Corps.

      • Well said. As a vet myself, holidays such as Veterans Day or Memorial Day, my mind always goes out to those who never came home (physically or mentally).

        • Thank you for speaking out. The truth ALWAYS points to itself. And, YES, Bungie has been shutting down Veteran posts. And, YES, they are interested in promoting what gets them more sales and is popular, and never what is right… Best of luck, and blessings…

This is exactly why veteran awareness is important. Suicide rates are so high in the veteran community.

          • I would just like to invite those berating Bungie about this, to not play favourites. Take your agenda and berate every company that isn’t making a show of Veterans Day. I mean, why would you just stop at Bungie? All they do is make games, why not berate the companies that actually have some influence and power? Oh, could it be that you don’t actually care about the cause and just wanted to jump on a bandwagon? Wow, how unprecedented.

          • This applies to the US only, in Europe we celebrate armistice day... Aka the day ww1 ended. We celebrate the men who died fighting for their countries, the men who charged over the trenches into gunfire and the men who ran through no man's land to get to the enemy trenches. Those men died believing they'd helped make a better tomorrow, a world that is at peace and their countries and families being safe.

            •
Although Churchill was referring particularly to painting and sculpture, it is not hard to extend his views to the Arts in general: The arts are essential to any complete national life. The State owes it to itself to sustain and encourage them. The country possesses in the Royal Academy an institution of wealth and power for the purpose of encouraging the arts of painting and sculpture…. The Prime Minister [Neville Chamberlain], who spoke with so much feeling and thought on this subject, has reminded us of the old saying that it is by art man gets nearest to the angels and farthest from the animals. Indeed it is a pregnant thought. Here you have a man with a brush and palette. With a dozen blobs of pigment he makes a certain pattern on one or two square yards of canvas, and something is created which carries its shining message of inspiration not only to all who are living with him on the world, but across hundreds of years to generations unborn. It lights the path and links the thought of one generation with another, and in the realm of price holds its own in intrinsic value with an ingot of gold. Evidently we are in the presence of a mystery which strikes down to the deepest foundations of human genius and of human glory. Ill fares the race which fails to salute the arts with the reverence and delight which are their due.
Bungie’s expression of its values and its vision in it’s preferred form and format is (ostensibly) why veterans of (ostensibly) freedom loving countries are asked to place their lives on the line. Or at least that’s what we’d like to think and tell ourselves if the harsher truth weren’t that we more often sacrifice our own and engage in conflict for lesser reasons. Regardless - it’s distasteful for politically motivated hacks to show up in any forum disparaging people who have been targeted and bullied for how they were born and wrap themselves in a thin veneer of patriotism to justify their ugliness - in a pathetic “whataboutist” display. If we’re going to focus on the sacrifices of American veterans - I would think that we might stop for maybe a second and wonder whether a life sacrificed for “freedom” includes Bungie’s freedom to make the art they want, exercise the speech they want, how they want. Too much to ask from this crowd I guess. But no - instead we get churlish, insecure, political baiting from folks that can’t resist the urge to change the topic and bait the audience into an argument literally nobody was interested in. Pro trans message on US Veterans Day? The outrage. Black folks having the nerve to speak up about being profiled and abused by the police? Let’s invent a rhetorical argument that intentionally diminishes the subject being discussed (the abuse of black people) and replace it with “All lives matter” and run around with blue line flags on our pickup trucks - as if there was a zero sum choice. What about this? What about that? Blah, blah, blah. Some of us matured past the age of 14, learned to listen to others respectfully, and not be threatened by people and ideas that challenged our own. What if US veterans didn’t sacrifice themselves for this premise - that art, expression, and commerce could be made freely? What if they died for rank nationalism and a static society? Their sacrifice would truly be tragic.

              • Whilst I respect what you're saying someone of us and maybe you lost loved ones. My parents had me when they was 40. My grandfathers fought in ww2. Hearing about some of the horrible things what took place on a battlefield. 14 year kids signing up for to fight against thr biggest fascist cult of all time. Please remember Europe was fighting against -godwinslaw!- cult for like 3 years before America joined. It's not just about the our veterans. It's also about cilvians which were killed. 10 years ago I lost a friend from an explosion in Afghanistan. I personally feel bungie right now are using modern movements for publicity like it's a trend.

              • Why would this get blocked? Also who cares if people want to thank us for our service? You may not want to be thanked for it and thats fine but veterans day is not all about you. Veterans day is about being thankful to all veterans that have risked their life and time to defending the country so everyone can have the life that they want. I served my time, sure it feels weird to be thanked for my time served but its also an honor to know we provide hope and comfort to other civilians.

                • Great post and I will up-vote it when I have had my say. I am from the great white north in Canada, we have been brothers in arms with the the great Nation of the United States of America for a very long time. I am the son of a career military man, I am the brother of a military man and I to am Veteran of the Canadian military, I have nothing but the upmost respect for all members of the Canadian and US military, past and present and I firmly believe that they should be recognized more than 1 day a year. It is sad that kids in school these days learn the bare minimum about past wars and the people that fought in them. In Canada we have our Remembrance day to the US Veterans day, at exactly 11:00 on November 11th, I stopped my truck, shut off the engine, and got out and stood beside my truck for my 2 minutes of silence, this is how I show my respects to our fallen warriors, from all over, as well as those that continue to serve. The vets that I know myself included, don't look for special thanks or any of that stuff, I look at is as I had a chance to continue with my life while many did not. People have lost sight of the fact that if it wasn't for those men and women, the world would be a much different place than it is today, even as messed up as it is.

My only personal comment, if you'll allow me, is that how on earth did we get here? And why is it so important to talk about this? What is going on? What brought this? Why is it so important now?
