This is not a small investment you are asking people to make in your stop gap "celebration" content. 30 dollars I believe, for basically "old yeller-horn" a tracking rocket launcher with clusterbombs that simply isn't as relevant to the game as once it was, and a "loot cave" dungeon.
If the content isn't going to have matchmaking, give public notice of that now so that solo players can make an informed decision to not buy it. Yes this means that your decisions will result in you consequentially making less money, but that is better than defrauding solo players of their money for content you intend to deny them access to.
If you fully intend to grant full access to matchmaking through out the event that's great, and I infact urge you to state so as it will if anything drive up preorders. Look forward to it. But if you're going to lock solo players out of that 30 dollar content, you need to tell them, in plain language without the usual doubletalk and legalese that this is content they will not be rewarded for buying. And you need to do it now, not as an afterthought at the last moment after preorders have been made.
It is a decision you have every right to make if you want to keep solos out of that content. But those players have a right to know you're going to exclude them before they pull out their wallet.
Just put it in plain writing.
"Following the release of the expanded version of Astral Alignment: Legendary, we have received some feedback about matchmaking in our game and how some players feel that they are being excluded from content they invested in. It is not our intent to exclude players from content, we do have an LFG feature on our app and website. But it is fair to say that players who deliberately refuse to use that feature are in fact excluded from legendary content by their choices, rather or not that is fair, or even justifiable, is in our opinion irrelevant, it is none the less a deliberate design choice we have made and stand by. But because this has become a source of friction, we wish to prevent any misunderstanding or miscommunication about the upcoming celebration event. This is an event which will provide consistent access to high level rewards and, to be as clear as possible, MATCHMAKING WILL NOT BE AN AVAILABLE ROUTE TO ACCESS THEM. We will as always provide access to our LFG network, but if you choose to not use that system, and do not have companions to assist you, you will not find this paid content to be a rewarding investment, and we suggest you consider that before making your purchase. We do not intend this to criticize your decision nor shame your play style, we only wish your decision to be informed by foreknowledge of our intents rather than you be forced to react after the fact once it is too late to receive a refund. If the upcoming celebration is not right for you, we do remind you that there will be many matchmade events in the upcoming expansion and look forward to seeing you then."
You can even copy and paste that uncredited if you want. It's direct and polite while also firmly expresses the fact that this /is/ the case and you /won't/ be moved from that decision, and lets players express their feelings about that in the only way that matters. With their wallets. People only get angry when they feel like they've been tricked. Let them know the bottom line up front and we won't have to have this argument again in a few months.
Being clear. I'm not telling you to enable matchmaking. I'd personally rather you did but I'm not telling you how to make your game, it's in every way your right to make that decision. I'm only counseling you you should let people know your plans before you take their money, from a position of ethics.

Remember the Tribute Hall? All that bright dust spent on it. I did the bounties to reduce the bright dust cost but it depleted my ample bright dust reserves down to a couple hundred. Some players who didn’t have the spare time to do the bounties or a lot of them saved up spent $$$ in the Eververse store for it. RNG items from purchased engrams would dismantle as bright dust back then. So real world money was spent enhancing and unlocking the Tribute Hall… which is gone and may never come back. I miss it. Best place to test our new weapons and builds.

Day one:: (redacted) dungeon. KWTD. Have ghorn.

4 RepliesI agree with your opinion however I’d like to suggest a simple solution. Don’t preorder. Wait until the content has arrived and then make your purchase decision. That way you know what you’re buying.
-
6 RepliesDon’t👏 Pre👏 Order👏 How many times do we have to learn this lesson?
-
It's some quest and a dungeon ....dungeon won't have matchmaking...since mine of them have.... Honestly I love Destiny but i would have quit a long time ago if I would only play solo
-
any rational use of thought would have prevented you from this bloated crap being written. no dungeon has had matchmaking, this one will not either. see how simple that is?

12 RepliesEdited by Rogue: 10/21/2021 9:31:02 AMWouldn't a lack of matchmaking be preferable for a solo player? that way you get to play solo. With matchmaking it would give you a team, and you would no longer be solo? If having the team isn't the problem, what on earth is the problem with the find a fireteam function of the companion app? I can't see Bungie really taking this to heart, as they have already gone out of pocket to create this app that has a built in system for finding fireteams. If everything had match making how would you complete solo triumphs?
-
Dungeons have never had matchmaking, and I doubt they'll start now. The free six player activity was stated to have matchmaking within the sentence it was announced. The astral alignment matchmaking issue I get, but the stuff for the 30th anniversary event has been made clear literally when it was announced
-
Just take prior history, Dungeons dont come with MM

20 RepliesEdited by Goomy: 10/21/2021 9:19:21 PMSolo players continue to blame literally everyone else for their own poor decision making skills. Destiny is a social game. It has always been advertised as such. Obviously the dungeon isn't going to have matchmaking. This post is pointless, just don't buy it.
-
When have Dungeons ever had matchmaking in Destiny? This is not a game this is meant to be played alone. There are plenty of great clans out there that are willing to help players find fireteams. Be proactive. If you like the game, spend the money. It's really that easy.
-
I haven’t done any of the dungeon before, but aren’t they solo activities? I’m sure I remember there being achievement for solo flawless completion so what is the issue here? Plus like other people said don’t pre-order or at least not yet. Wait till the day before if you want to get the exclusives and have all the info about the release. They don’t usually release any details this early.

1 ReplyAgree, I've cancelled my pre-orders for Witch Queen Deluxe and anniversary pack until I know what's in it for solo players and what's not.
-
It won't have matchmaking. I do wish they would just add an optional matchmaking tab for all content. Lfg is such a ball ache at times.
-
I hope all the idiots who kiss bungie’s -blam!- get utterly crushed🤣.
-
Bungie probably reach that pre order goal then said oh yeah about that lol

4 Repliesabsolutely even tho all dungeons so far have had no match making 3 things make me think the gjallarhorn one will 1. they seem to be entertaining the idea see trials... 2. its celebratory content so maximising who can play it might be one of their targets... 3. this will be the 3rd time its coming back now and last time it was a long quest that ended in a mission im thinking they will give us something similar but with a match made dungeon at the end instead that you have to grind to unlock it kinda like with clout strike... if it does have matchmaking i can see it being a gate way for new people to start trying the other dungeons like it teaches them mechanises if it doesn't then it doesn't

1 ReplyEdited by Demon_XXVII: 10/20/2021 5:31:31 PMYes, Bungie should address the matchmaking issues (and clarify if the 30th anniversary/WQ dlc will have matchmaking for the 6person event) But why is it so difficult for people to join a clan & interact with others? Yeah, I Know that there’s anxiety & stress (situations in both speaking/interacting with others) But it’s easy to join a clan, join a party chat (for PSN at least) & ask for help Not everyone’s an aśshat There are plenty of helpful clans, friendly, chilled people & LFG/Discord style options People are hellbent on the Destiny IP being a solo game It was never designed to be that Hence the Fireteam trifecta of Warlock/Hunter/Titan

13 RepliesI’m so sick of people saying that solo players are “locked out” use LFG! It’s not that hard!
-
Edited by Demon_XXVII: 10/20/2021 4:38:38 PMBasically you just want clarification that the dungeons/6 person heroic seasonal events (that have never previously had matchmaking) Won’t (or will) have matchmaking, in Year 5 (Witch Queen)? You’re asking for clarity, from Bungie ? Good luck with that!
-
Bump 😄👍
-
1 ReplyIt's a DUNGEON!!! Dungeon don't have matchmaking.
-
6 RepliesFor all this complaining from "solo" players, not one of them has considered that you can use LFG and still not have to use a mic or communicate at all... The longer this goes on, the more it just baffles me.
-
I agree that Bungie should confirm since assumptions aren't always correct but I would say the Dungeon will be the same as every other Dungeon so far. No matchmaking.
