Unable to get "Decrypting the Darkness" quest
I haven't played my warlock for a few seaons, and when I went to the umbral decoder to grab the quest it isn't there. I have the quest saying to get Decrypting the Darkness, and I also checked the prismatic recaster. I don't know how Bungie hasn't fixed this yet, but it needs to be patched urgently because I can't focus any engrams on my warlock.

1 ReplyI am having the same problem. It seems like the simplest fix is to just default add it to the damn terminal quest archive for everyone and if its bugged for you then you can just go to the archive and grab it. Its not rocket science.

3 RepliesI posted the fix for this all you have to do is get to the portion that asks for it for the current season this happens right after you do your first astral alinement activity for the wayfarers quest line.

Same issue here on all my characters. Returned to D2 towards the end of Splicer.

Yea, I started a new hunter to go back through and replay shadowkeep and beyond light, do old quests and what not, first off the new light experience, even being a player who has played since launch, is a giant confusing mess. Im not sure who play tested this experience but wow, anyways, tried to unlock battlegrounds, got stuck on Decrypting the Darkness step, tried to do splicer stuff, same thing got stuck on Decrypting the Darkness step, and then somehow for season of the lost im on step 6 but never got the quest there either, almost like it just skipped that step. As large of a company as bungie is i dont understand why we cant get just 1 person to acknowledge that this is a bug or even to let us know they are looking into it. Finally i dont understand why after 4 seasons of people getting stuck on this quest step over and over, whether its because they got stuck on the engram part or the Decrypting the Darkness not showing up, that bungie hasnt changed the system, each season they just do it again. Maybe consider detaching this step from the quest (considering so much new light stuff has no directions or guidance whats one more thing to figure out yourself) or reworking the quest. Really hope someone considers the idea of removing/changing a quest step that season over season causes people game breaking issues.

I've been dealing with the same issue on my Hunter and Warlock. Neither of them were played the last two seasons, as I only play 1 toon per season, neither of them can progress on the quest. I abandoned the quests thinking I could get them from the kiosk, but no go. Picked up the quest from the War Table for the Cabal season, but it too won't progress or offer the option to abandon. With only time for 1 toon at a time I am effectively locked out of the class I want to play this season.

At least that is what I did with my alt ions and it worked. Or focus it first then decrypt. If you have tried all of these ways then it is a bug and needs to be addressed.

Same here on two characters. Both of which i didn't play at all in the last two seasons. I tried decrypting umbral engrams on both and still stuck. One post suggested running playlists. Which I did last night. Saw something popped up at one point that said something about lens unlocked. Played again until I found another umbral engram. Decrypted. Still stuck

Hey I started a new character because I wanted a female hunter. Anyway I had everything unlocked fine in my previous Hunter. Now I’m on my new hunter and the decrypt darkness quest doesn’t want to progress for me either. So far Ive decrypted like 8 umbral engrams and quest still hasnt progressed and I’m unable to focus anything. Please let me know if you find out anything.
