All they need to do to make champions fine across the board is stop them healing.
It'd make the champions not become such a downer and might actually allow some freedom of builds. I know they like to push a pve meta each season with these mods but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck. I have a playstyle I like with each character they each use different weapons.
Titan - Autos Machineguns, Shotguns (aka basically I can't play my titan in high pve thanks and my favorite exotic war rig is essentially shunned by bungie this season)
Warlock sidearms handcannons fusions and traces and hunter with bows and snipes and smgs.
Champions are always a downer no matter what I am doing. Even in the lower difficulty stuff I can't just go in and have fun it's a few minutes of flip flopping weapons around throwing at least a grand of glimmer in the garbage and then after a light sigh getting ready to do whatever is on the table with champions today.
If they removed healing champions would still be difficult yes and you probably still ultimately would want the mods on but it at least wouldn't be literally a waste of time as you maybe get clipped a bit and die to come back to see that overload healed in like 3 seconds or watch the barrier champ block everything including supers and just be like welp that's just my life now.
Alternative Ideas would be as I've listed before.
-Make all exotics have some form of champion suppression built in so i'm not choosing from like what 4 that can at the moment?
-Make the seasonal unlocking of champion mods innate each season but maybe make the goal a little longer (like say the variks sabotage missions to make things a permanent unlock)
-Make all weapon based champion mods available at all times.
-Throw champions in the garbage.
That's all there's my thoughts after returning for this new season for a good while.
