Great article about sunsetting.
Key point: "This is just not a good situation for the game to be in. It is abundantly clear that sunsetting has hurt the game more than it’s helped it, and that the problems with old weapons could have been solved with selective retirement rather than mass executions. Now we’re in a situation where a season may introduce 20 weapons but every single time we lose 20 weapons as a result. This is not sustainable or enjoyable, and something needs to change."

4 RepliesEdited by AubsTheBelieber: 1/18/2021 1:20:33 AMKackis sucks. Over length videos for no reason other than ad revenue. He's a bad person of YouTube. He legit will take 6 minutes of information and turn it into 11 minutes solely to make you waste time while increasing his watchtime/ad revenue. There's videos on his channel that you can look up something that we all know is very little to need to explain, like example, Xur location and items for the weekend, a 2 minute video max. He'll have some that are over 10 minutes and purposely puts the important information shattered to force you to watch longer periods of him talking about how great he is.

7 RepliesEdited by Solursus: 1/12/2021 3:01:42 AMGlad Paul Tassi is finally figuring it the hell out. Guy's views of sunsetting in the past was bloodboiling. Sunset my gear, sunset my business.

I am quite glad to see sunsetting is still unpopular.

Wouldn’t break my heart if they got rid of aeon The worst exotic ever. They should fire the guy who came up with it

1 ReplyAs if you're getting 20 new weapons? Half the "new" weapons are sun set weapons with new perks. Someone please explain sunsetting to me, if your just releasing the same weapon again....I am confused. Feel like I paid for a full price expansion and got less new content then a seasonal update.

And they still don’t listen

They really need to just STOP sunsetting stuff. I know it's too late to be "fair" to retroactively un-sunset stuff prior to season 8, but they could just quit this stupid shit moving forward at least. They nuked a bunch of weapons. Mission accomplished. Now just leave it be.
-
This is also why you should not chase after seasonal gear/weapons, instead just get the dlc one( Crystoline?). Also save some $$ and don't buy seasons, imo

Beyond Light is a depletion, not an expansion.

It's now a count down to what we lose not what we gain. Sunsetting removes all incentive to obtain any new gear because we all know it will be gone anyways. It has become what's the point of grinding weapons? Don't get me started on armor, everytime I log in and look at what I want to use I think great that's about to expire. Luke Smith once compared loot to milk, oh you just need to get the one with the experation that will last the longest.. but destiny players won't want spoiled guns. The loot now is dead on arrival. When you buy milk, you know you can always buy more milk. It will be exactly the same as before. You would stop eating cereal if white milk was gone, you wouldn't switch to strawberry milk because thats what's new. You would quit eating it.

It is abundantly clear that sunsetting has hurt the game more than it’s helped it,
Isn't part of the idea of sunsetting is to add actual new loot to the game to create an incentive, not use the extra $10 for the season content just to get some extra loot, or throw old seasonal loot in as a filler? I don't think Bungie has a clue on what the hell they are doing when it comes to the (actual purpose of what sunsetting is supposed to do) other than cash-grabbing. Didn't they learn anything at all from D1 year 1 sunsetting, because I recall getting all kinds of new loot and I wasn't charged an extra $10 just to get some loot actually added to the game?

Incoming transmission from Europa! Deep within the icy crevices lays the Deep Stone Crypt..yesss? Within it stirs Taniks-1 Exo Fallen (insect chattering)...newly put together using earth machinery and Fallen ingenuity....He remembers you guardian...He thirsts for your blood...Make him remember defeat (insect chattering).

It's like Cayde said... Well, this... this is awkward. I... y-you got a gun I could borrow?

5 RepliesI'd just like to give perspective as someone who joined in the last 3 weeks, and mostly pvp. It's incredibly frustrating to have weapons in the game that I can no longer get, with rolls that no longer exist, used against me in pvp. Sunsetting is both good and bad. Removing those weapons from rotation is important; but the way Bungie does it, by merely sunsetting, instead of disabling, is frustrating.

Edited by anansispider: 1/14/2021 8:34:31 AMArticle can bore off. This article should've come out before BL. Someone put it perfectly. 23 RepliesI will never support sunsetting. Legacy items & players should be celebrated, not punished. Sad.

15 RepliesIt's not that sunsetting can't work or it shouldn't have been implemented...but I am SICK of these half baked deliveries of something that's supposed to "improve the game." We should have gotten a true taste of what EXACTLY was SUPPOSED to be in store for us with this expansion. Great feeling guns with powerful abilities. We should have been drowning with loot, not licking the moisture off of our fingers. We deserve better than what they delivered to us and I am honestly sick of their poor delivery on "promises" or statements they made. I don't think even HALF of the community would have cared as much as we do now if it released in a half decent state. It's WHY Paul tassi and all of these streamers were hyping it up, because they WANTED exactly what we didn't get. So they "realize" how foolish they were to expect something so..."unpredictable." I'm not playing the game anymore than I did before, I'm not enjoying it anymore than i have before, my friends aren't enjoying it anymore than they were before. Is ANYBODY enjoying the game, specifically because of sunsetting, more than before? Please don't try to give me that baloney that they are "playing the long game," because that's every single decision they make. They deliver crap and just like every other live service game they only fix it LATER because that's exactly what they can get away with. Destiny is a game I've supported since the damn beta and I truly enjoy simply playing the game. I get CRAVINGS just to get on destiny and shoot shit, burn them with my melees, explode them with my hammers because it's fun. But the guns I've accrued and used because they fit exactly what I looked for was also fun. I liked my ether doctor, my edge transit, my erentil (sorry not sorry), my elegy sniper rifle, my avalanche, etc. I wasn't so self restricting that I wouldn't swap to the new gear...but if they ever...ya know...gave me a legitimate reason to swap from the weapons I had, I would have been inclined to. A brand new kinetic 600, a new void fusion rifle that doesn't roll the same shit as everything else, a new machine gun that didn't roll the same shit as everything else. But what has changed besides the fact I can't use them anymore? NOTHING so far. How long is long enough before sunsetting becomes worth the investment all those people who praised its implementation...becomes worth it? Next season? 2 seasons from now? Why do we have to wait for them to deliver what should have been right from the get go? My emotions are definitely blinding my judgement on sunsetting because I absolutely HATE how it is right now. Who ever tries to accuse me of not thinking just because I'm angry can just -blam!- right off. I was thinking LONG before about this change and was hilariously correct about how bad it was gonna be at launch. I like to be right, but being right about something bad feels like shit. It didn't work in destiny 1 for the exact same problem we are experiencing now. They couldn't make enough new weapons to satisfy the players and even if they did, all of the weapons felt hollow or samey. I've ranted enough.

I wouldn’t have minded sunsetting if it came with an outpour of replacement weapons. But that did not happen, recycled content yet again. Sunsetting sucks. Totally pointless in current state

5 RepliesSick of feeling like I have to doomsday prep my loadouts for the next few seasons. Diablo 4 cannot come soon enough.

3 RepliesOh look, its paul tassi. That guy that back in feb literally wrote an article with the heading "why luke smith is right about sunsetting and you are wrong" Now the penny has dropped months later and he flips his stance. Beautiful 😂😂😂

Im pretty sure we are going to lose more than we gain XD

Hey remember when we all farmed the hell out of those season of dawn god rolls? God roll trophy hunter, yeah? Did you use it after the sniper nerf? Me neither. As a matter of fact, I hoarded most of that crap and never touched it again. Now it’s about to expire and I don’t even care. I am however pissed about my armor expiring, because I have min/max builds that took way too much time and material to just dismantle. The 1 year expiration cycle feels short enough that they might as well invent a reason to empty our vaults and force us to play with only the new season’s weapons every 90 days. Then they might actually be able to make stupidly broken weapons like o.g pre-nerf pinnacles that are fun to use, but die off before people get too sick of them.
-
I honestly avoid spending materials or time to upgrade weapons or masterwork my gear. It sucks because spending that time to make your build is such a good feeling but sun setting paired up with limited time to play (school, work, etc) makes it feel so not worth it. I used to do it over a period of time but honestly at this rate, by time I get my guardian feeling powerful, my fear will be useless again. Such a bad feeling
