Bungie,
I feel as though CBMM was a poor decision because it has turned so many new players away from pvp. I have had countless clan mates that are new to the game and they get turned off to Crucible immediately. They get matched with players that are so far above their skill level that they are just cannon fodder. I recommend Survival to them but there is still an inequality in the glory rankings and matchmaking so they just quit after getting beat up. No one wants to play a game that beats up on them and makes them feel bad about their inability to play. I have witnessed the negative association with the game influencing players to the point they don't have any desire to play the game at all. Personally I don't enjoy crucible as much as I used to because I am an older gamer coming up on 60 and my reaction time isn't what it used to be. I do my weekly bounties and that's about it, where as in the past I used to enjoy trying different load outs and work on honing my skill. This isn't a complaint I believe the issue warrants awareness and hopefully discussion. We don't want to lose players unnecessarily we want to promote and grow the D2 community.

It helps everyone who isn't garbage. And if someone is actually that bad, they need to not be corralled into the kiddie pool to only play against other bad players and experience what competent players look like.

It benefits 80% of the playerbase, instead of the previous 20% because it shielded shitters from real players. D2 pvp is as casual as it gets. If you can’t handle I really don’t know what else to say. Have you tried COD?

Quickplay should be "quickplay" where the quality of the connection is matchmakings only concern IMHO. I take it as more of a challenge or an opportunity to learn when I play someone better than me (dreadful, I know).
-
27 RepliesNo, sbmm is garbage, you're friends trying a game shouldn't expect to be slayers thier first time, they can go to survival to learn or do it the way every good player did - by matching everyone else in casual 6vs6. Sbmm and social gamemodes are total opposites, it was tried, it failed miserably, the game suffered all of shadowkeep for it and if bungie are smart it won't come back ever.

39 RepliesCBMM is okay for players who are decent at crucible. Meaning a 1.0 KD or higher. It’s amazing for players with a 1.2+ KD. CBMM allows for good players to farm low skilled players. They never have to try and they get free kills. This community wants to believe that they are skilled at the game. But the moment they are forced to play against similar skilled players they cry about how crucible is to sweaty. Nobody with a positive KD wants to actually play they just want to feel like they are better than everyone else by getting free kills. The ppl with positive KDs are much more vocal about crucible than everyone else, which is why SBMM went away. However over 50% of the player population has less than a .95 KD. Which is why the state of the crucible is so bad right now. Every lobby has one diamond tier player who just farms. Games have been broken down to “which teams top player can farm faster” Also we never had SBMM. lobby balancing isn’t SBMM. Putting a diamond tier player with 5 bronze against 6 silver players isn’t SBMM.

7 RepliesEdited by michael: 9/30/2020 4:48:28 PMAs a “sweaty” player or whatever you want to call it, the (almost) entire crucible director becoming CBMM was a mistake. CBMM has its benefits for sure, and in my opinion it is the best way to get good even if you are bad, but I would be ignorant to pretend that it is not extremely flawed to have it in every mode. It is not fun for casual players and even for the good players like myself it is not even that fun. As a personal anecdote I play a LOT of rumble, top 40 on PC, and I think removing CBMM literally ruined the mode because it just isn’t challenging anymore. Half of my games I win are by a margin of 10+ kills and getting a sum of all tears, we ran out of medals , undefeated is not uncommon simply because the people I am against are miles out of my league. These people clearly are new to the game or are very bad at it and no matter what the reason is, the fact is that I should not be playing against them for any reason. The only time a rumble game is close is when there are 2 or 3 good players in the lobby and the game becomes a race to farm the bad players as fast as possible while avoiding engagements with the good players. It is AWFUL. There is no competition. Winning doesn’t mean outskilling 5 other players by yourself anymore. I can win 30, 40+ rumble games in a row but against people like this it is not satisfying at all. I am not getting better and they are not having fun. And even classic mix and IB at this point are just boring. My take, either put SBMM back in rumble or keep it CBMM but add a comp rumble playlist (this should have been a thing YEARS ago). Keep classic mix and the rotator playlists CBMM but make clash and control SBMM. Give people at least one SBMM 6v6 option. Because right now if you want to play crucible as a casual player you have to either sweat in comp (which isn’t even rank based anymore) or go against tryhards in rumble or 6v6. It is dumb. I wish going against better players would give people incentive to improve like back in the day in old halo and COD games. But times are different now, and the truth is that if you force CBMM on everyone then people WILL stop playing.

The game needs to bring back skill based matchmaking, to many players have left the game because of connection base matchmaking.
-
2 RepliesI hate it so much. Damn near every match seems like its just called because one team is getting completely destroyed. It really seems like just common sense to match based on skill. My KDA is at 1.08 this season, so I should be playing against others in that range but nope. I'm either getting destroyed or carrying the team with another person because its CBMM. Its aggravating.
-
4 RepliesI stopped playing this game for almost a year. Came back to the forums last week to find that people are complaining about the removal of SBMM despite the number of forum posts I saw a year ago that wanted it's removal. Strange times.
-
8 RepliesCool, I’m fine with SBMM coming back if they get rid of the lobby balancing, but I’m not giving you both crutches.
-
why i simply dont go into pvp unless its mayhem.
-
22 RepliesRotate CBMM and SBMM each season
-
The reason that people are getting matched against higher skill players is because, given the content drought we’re in, most of the active players are highly experienced. Sbmm leads to even more lag and feels like punishment for active players. There should be cbmm and sbmm versions of the playlists so people can decide what they’d rather do.

Edited by A_mo: 10/2/2020 8:22:24 PMThis game isn't CBMM for me, that's for sure. But this also shows the problem that a lot of us have with catering to people who don't pay attention, as if that's not going to cause the game to work like trash. It's not too much to ask that the game rewards people for paying attention but for some reason its determined not to. IB? Don't punish players for repeatedly not paying attention to the objective, just put them on teams with people who do. Survival, don't punish the players who have no idea how networking connections in that mode dictate what you should and shouldn't be trying to do, just put the person who doesn't pay attention on the team with people who do. Here's a good idea, give people who suck better damage output so they can contend with people better than them instead of having to actually get better. Then on top of it people have the nerve to act surprised that the game works like it does. At this point if people still aren't doing well, with all the stuff they have to cater to the people that they cater to, maybe they should try a different approach. Different, not the same but different, actually different.
-
So punish people that play daily so the person who plays 4 or less games a week has a mediocre time... Just say you want forced wins and don't want to improve. Its not even cbmm atm its random. Before it was wait 10+ minutes to be forced a win or loss which made the game unplayable.

2 RepliesI play pvp im terrible i dont know why i play it im literally like a hive thrall in there i just get crushed but i play it anyway...
-
1 ReplyIt was a necessary decision for the Stadia version of the game. The player base is too small to support any kind of SBMM. The bad decision was forcing CBMM on the entire franchise, because of one problem platform.
-
2 RepliesYep. It only helps the top tier players pub stomp so they can keep their KDs high
-
2 RepliesEdited by DadKev: 9/29/2020 9:44:12 PMI agree completely. Bungie has done things to show inclusiveness in the past and they blew it on this one. And being older with poor eyesight, slow reflexes and low dexterity puts those at a disadvantage that can never be made up.
-
I don’t think they’ll change it anytime soon. Major streamers have made sure of that’s... Gotta make those vids on amazing plays for their audiences. It’s a shame how weak willed people are to allow others to dictate their opinions for them. And it’s a shame Bungie takes their word as god die to their desperation for positive publicity for their game. Many people may not think of this, but content creators hold a GREAT amount of power in gaming. It’s not just destiny where content creators have an iron grip on changes made in games.
-
The only community that advocates for SBMM. Apex, CoD, and even Fortnite communities hate SBMM but some how everyone here likes it.

2 RepliesEdited by WormChi: 10/1/2020 5:44:12 PMThe playerbase is at a low right now between content drops. It will be easier for newbs like you next season. If it bothers you that much you can always play survival or Elim. They’re still sbmm. Otherwise our in your big boy plants it’s time for Adult Swim.
-
Cbmm is not the problem, sbmm is not the problem; Bungie's repeated failures at 'lobby balancing' is the problem.

Oops!.....take cover!!

Cbmm only hurts the bottom 15% thanks
