Ive got 2 decades of loot experience and in that experience I've seen collection type games and they never work. You eventually can't continue to make more powerful gear and keep in new player friendly. We already have a game where people won't let you do things, or you literally just can't do the because the content is created with the knowledge that we can use certain weapons. Its not just "waaah I'm a baby" like it is for you. Theres actual history and facts behind the ideas going in. You'd know this but why try and form a valid opinion when you can just be feelings over facts.
-
Well, they add new perks. People got the God roll 200 scout rifle from dawn. Not because it was meta, but because it was unique.

Edited by DuBChiri2: 7/30/2020 8:33:37 PMDestiny also isn't like other loot based games though. Destiny has an artificial cap that prevents you from dealing too much damage. While traditional games don't have that and they rely on a steadily increasing power level that has an actual noticable effect when you go both forwards and backwards. We are likely never going to get a max statted weapon even WITH sunsetting and the only thing that can really change is the perks (which will always be the same in pve) and power level. Since power level is literal artificial damage, we don't BUILD towards anything to where our characters are actually stronger. Destiny doesn't have progression and so its loot IS it's only progression. But theyve already took their position to ensure that said power can never go past a certain point in favor of balance and "challenge." So then what does sunsetting even bring to the table? Sure, they can give us recluse 2.0, but that doesn't mean they won't either nerf it or build content around it to support how broken that weapon is. It going away after a year doesn't change that it's going to be a problem for a whole year and likely no reason to replace it for anything else. Destiny...ISN'T the same game you've experienced other than it drops loot. I've played loot based games for 10 years and I've NEVER played one that does power this way. No game does power this way for a reason and it's why I'm almost positive sunsetting won't work, because it literally didn't work in the first game either. Yes it gave you incentive to acquire said loot...but no handcannon in year 1 was ever better than fate bringer and even near the end of destiny 1's life span it still pretty much ranged within the top 5 for pve handcannons. How many games allow a weapon you've acquired 4 years ago to be as good in terms of perks and damage as the newest weaponry. Destiny...doesn't evolve and sunsetting won't fix that because there aren't the proper systems in place to support it. We can also assume that even IF they do, it's only going to be by a little bit and soon once its replacement comes out and it's not better people with be pissed. Like...imagine we get recluse 2.0 and they realize that it was too broken so they go backwards or in another direction...which means that the game didn't progress forward. If we had proper progression and acquiring one weapon meant more than the last, then yeah it would work. But it's not going to happen. Look at the 2 iron banner perks that were supposed to give us a taste of that "improvement," they were complete garbage and it gives me no hope that the game will improve.

It would work if they were actually implemented in a non dumbass way. Half of the old stuff in collections isn't even usuable due to it not being updated the way the current guns are. Theres old sht I wish I could use rn that ive obtained and now they are just worsening that effect. They don't always have to keep adding new shyt they can go back and update things and make them usuable now without having to reskin and recycle more sht and making it loot for new activities
-
Thats all a byproduct of not having a direction to go in. Which is the consequence of listening to everyone, trying to implement what they can rather just make something pliable and meaningful The biggest reason I'm happy about these changes is because its what they want, rather us. They stop trying to please a bunch of voices who really don't have a clue what they want is a right direction for now. Lets see where it ends up. I feel like were gonna end up with a pretty solid game here soon.
-
Yeah I doubt it, the last time bungie ignored feedback and did thier own thing we got vanilla d2 and curse of osiris
-
hello? Lmao they definitely have no intentions of pleasing us, they're continuing to do w.e they want as usual. They're the ones who have no clue what is the right direction. This is just continuing to go downhill lmao
-
Just because their not listening to you doesn't mean their not listening to "us" From the start of the very first expansion, when everyone realized their fatebringer was getting left behind, that's when it all went downhill. If they kept that direction. The direction they're going now. None of this would be a surprise. It would be known by now and those who don't like its direction would have already been gone. And those who like this genre of game would have like never left.
-
do YOU even know what youre saying lmao. This is the direction they're taking and plenty of people have left. You not even making sense anymore lmao this is what happens when you trying to defend the logic of a company that ignores its playerbase when they genuinely have coherent ideas. I'm not even including myself in this.
-
You actually have no idea what YOU are talking about. Facts vs feelings little man. Keep your emotions to yourself.
-
there's no emotions lmao. I'm just wondering do you know how dumb you sound. Its just typical that anyone who still defends this game never has a valid argument and just says the kind of dumb sht you have lmao. I'm still waiting on you to state a single fact also kid
-
^^^^Sees it Thank you. Anyone in favor of this is just a degenerate gambler thinking the next hand is going to turn their luck around. "Aww man. My gnawing hunger is useless now but maybe if i grind six weeks of umbrals I'll get something close to my curated reckoning roll"
-
Sunsetting is needed. It helps against power creep. It will continually shake up the meta loadouts. And it will give a reason to play each season because you will have an opportunity to replace your gear that will be sunset next. Great system
-
You say they are sunsetting because of power creep yet they are releasing the same weapons. Aren't those two things at odds with each other?
-
Are any of the reissued weapons meta or even close?
-
Yes, Gnawing Hunger.
-
It’s not better than what we have just easier to get than summoner
-
It's meta in PvE.
-
It doesn’t beat other options. Maybe with certain builds but overall we have better options
-
It's at least close to meta. And in fact actually is meta. Whether you like it or not.
-
I think recluse is better. What rolls do you use on gnawing hunger?
-
Sunsetting is not needed. Exotics being exempt from it throws the meta shifting excuse in the trash. New loot with new perks, perk combinations, archetypes and armor mods have historically and successfully driven a desire for loot. Powercreep doesn't exist in a game that doesn't grant power. Sunset my gear, sunset my business.
-
Oh so one slot can be the same forever so that means the meta will never change?? That’s ridiculous. Also do you know what power creep is. It’s the addition of increasingly powerful items repeatedly. Leaving the older items underpowered and causing the new ones to be even stronger. Eventually you get to a point where guns can’t get much stronger without severely hurting the game. Here is a brief example. Wirh all archetypes being nearly the same one you get one outlaw kill clip or rampage you have them all of that archetype so how do we get players to ever replace their gear well you have to add something stronger in order for players to replace their gear hence multikill clip and rapid hit. We are at the critical point where our gear is so powerful recluse And mountaintop. How do we ever create a weapon stronger than those and if we do then the enemies need to get stronger and more BS. As we get more tools like seasonal mods and armaments the enemies have to scale up to compensate for our builds and mass amounts of heavy. We can’t keep getting stronger and stronger and neither can the enemies
