Has anyone else lost the incentive to chase loot considering you know it won't be yours or decent forever?

It automatically makes all loot I get less special knowing it will soon become useless.

  • Yeah I feel you. Knowing that all the stuff I have is going to be irrelevant in a few months just drains my energy to play this game. I mean it is already pretty much bounty simulator 2020: space edition, but if the grind im doing isn’t worth it why should I play it? I’m taking a break from D2 and will see how things will be when the aunsetting hits... And the TWAB was horrible.

  • The thing is if they had implemented sun setting post Forsaken like TTK it wouldn't have been as bad, irritating but not as bad. Unfortunately they waited over two year after random rolls were reintroduced and people spent that time building up their gear. Bungie said this would solve power creep in which it won't, a tweet from Andrew Hopps said "You know how Recluse shits on everything in PvE? Weapon sunsetting means we can add more weapons that shit on everything and they just eventually fall behind in power. New weapons that shit on everything can be added without constant power creep." so hypothetically they add a Recluse level weapon for that year, that means the meta load out for pve/pvp will revolve around said weapons for that entire year and defeats their argument towards "power creep". Me personally, I like seasonal sandbox changes to keep things fresh instead ever level cap and sun setting is not only lazy but a easy way out. Power creep progress at a slow pace, it doesn't happen over night and as long as they stop introducing more damage dealing perks and control what they buff there will be no problem. All Bungie need to do is show certain archetypes some love and to come up with different perks like demolitionist, lead from gold, overflow, or more area of effect perks uniquely like meganeura etc. They're only assuming we want more damage dealing perks and a lower time to kill and believe me if Bungie can create perks in which I stated, a defense of lack of innovation is invalid. Hell they could introduce akimbo (duel wielding) smg's and sidearms with the caveat being you can't aim down sight and shared ammo reserves to balance them, same can be said with swords. I hate to bring this up but how do you think Warframe a free to play game, was said to fail just like Destiny was able to survive all this time and stay relevant with little to no controversy and backlash. It's because the devs of Warframe care about its community and doesn't half-ass their content or make excuses, example: they had a loot box system but took it out because they didn't what their player base slot machine gambling and that's what builds trust and loyalty with their brand.

  • This has always been my argument against weapon retirement - the psychological effect ( both conscience and sub-conscience ) it will have in the way players pursue loot in the future, as well as upgrading the things they’ll potentially acquire. No one wants to feel as if all their time and effort is going into a black hole. Once loot becomes temporary, I fear that it that for a lot of players, the daily Destiny grind is going to feel a bit futile, and pointless.

  • What chase bro? I have played the mindbender and savathung like many, many times and i just get to see others getting the shotgun or the braytech launcher, not that it matters now tho, but WHAT LOOT CHASE?? Not all Strikes in D2 have specific loot drop and those who does don't drop -blam!- all or you get the ones nobody cares for like neuroma or wardens 😑

  • I don't see sunsetting weapons as a big deal. I like trying out new weapons- even the not ready for prime time ones. However - sunsetting Armor with the high cost of upgrading same will be very painful for me, as a solo player. I used to have fun playing around with different builds fully Masterworked - haven't been able to for a long long time. Yep been solo since PS4 accounts were hacked by friend requests awhile ago. Physical friends I do have have left Destiny some time ago.

  • It actually makes the whole game pointless...I’ll still play it but I’ll just play the free content - if you pay Bungie for content now you are just throwing your money away...because they are sunsetting planets too lol Congratulations Bungie - this will be the first September you don’t get my money lol

    • I lose the incentive to chase loot once I have all the loot I want (mostly just the meta weapons, whatever those may be at the time) I cannot wait for upsetting, because then I can chase different loot, different meta weapons. Sure the archetypes will still be the same archetypes, and the perk pools will remain more or less the same, its still something to do.

    • I’ve lost the will to play, my little brother constantly asks me to help him with quests but I just can’t get myself to want to start it up, there’s nothing to chase anymore, none of the loot means anything it’s just the feeling of “oh I have this gun, but it doesn’t matter cause it’s useless against most things now “

No, not really. Weapons have come and gone from this game since 2014 and I do prefer a game that has a major injection of fresh blood periodically. I will play and use all the good weapons for a whole year and then I'll just wait for the new cycle to bring new things. One year is more than enough to play with the same gear. Imo people are making a big drama over nothing. And the most amazing thing in this "greek tragedy" is that probably the majority of them will continue to play this game regardless.

      • Yes, the only thing not being sunsetted is eververse. Another thing they are doing to entice you to spend money at the cash shop. Which is what has ruined this game entirely at this point. 3 years of players complaining about it, and they just change things around to make it more shifty in hopes we don't notice. We see you bungie. This is why we have stopped playing your game.

        • No not really. I think a year is fine for any new loot introduced and the chase for it seems to have been made more directed due with the REDACTED engrams. I just hope the loot pools are unique yet not too wide to make farming for your ideal role not too bad. In regards to the loot being sunset in season 12, most of the really high end stuff: NF, Revoker, Mountaintop and Recluse have all been in the game a long time now, they have been at the top longer than any weapon was in D1. The one I’ll actually miss the most is Martyr’s Retribution as there is currently nothing else like it but I’ll get over it and I imagine more waveframes will be introduced going forward.

          • 100% yes. I started losing interest in Season Of Fundying. I’ll log in each week to see that the ornaments I want are still not available in Eververse and then log out. I actually got to the final step of Failwinter’s Lie quest and threw up in my mouth a little bit when I seen it wasn’t even working for anyone. 🙃

            • Mixed feelings on this one. Remember the Randy's Throwing Knife, EP shotgun, Blast Furnace, Bygones, ANY bow for PVE, ANY fusion rifle for PVE, ANY rocket launcher for PVE, etc...etc...etc... Point is- all of those weapons were monsters in their day, and now, we barely use them. Why? Because Bunghole has already 'sunsetted' these weapons by forcing us to use artifact perks for specific weapon classes in order to play endgame/season content. Good luck completing that Grand Master nightfall with a pulse, a shotgun, and a rocket launcher. lol But do I miss those weapons? Not really. We have all grinded for the best weapons and loadouts each season- and moved on from them for the next season. This is how most loot games work, by the way. And there isn't a single piece of armor that I 'need' to have in order to complete a raid, master nightmare hunt, dungeon, nightfall, or any other PVE activity. SO I honestly could care less about ditching old armor. (I do understand that PvP players face a completely different perspective for amor stats) But what I am most concerned about is that Bungie has a history of taking our things away from us, only to 'give' them back later on. This chit is OLD!! I do not want to have to grind for a god rolled Bygones V2.0 when I already have one! And I'm tired of the damn re-skins! lol

            • If they were just sunsetting weapons I’d be fine with it, but armor is too much. It takes too long to make your stats exactly what you want.

            • I’ve lost incentive to even make a build... Since their sunsetting armor, for some stupid reason, why would I waste so many resources and so much time into making a endgame build. Which gets sunsetted and effectively useless every year? (RNG hates me and I get an ascendant shard like once every 6-8 master nightfalls). But hey at least I can use that build in patrol and those super rewarding and challenging strikes right! Oh wait, I’m most likely to just get 3 blues from a strike? And if I get a legendary it’s a sniper with hip fire grip? But hey maybe I can use that build in gambit! Oh wait, invasions are LL enabled? Oh wait, my teammates are trashcans who steal all motes I make and then lose them? And when I get a good team and we win I get 3 blues or my tenth bug out bag? Maybe I’ll play menagerie! But the loot is still the same as it was for the past year and I’d bet most people have gotten whatever guns/roles they wanted. Oh yeah and all the loot is getting sunsetted. It seems it’s not just the armor and weapons getting sunsetted, it’s the activities. Not just because their rewards are being sunsetted, but also because those activities have been neglected. I like the game modes, they’re fun, just no reason to play them. And in a loot game with repetitive activities, players need a reason to play them.

Yeah absolutely. What I don´t understand is the "play they way you want"- approach, that they promise. But yet you are restricted to certain types of weapons with mods for example. It makes no sense. And each weapon was made to feel different but when they get obsolete, Bungie again forces the whole playerbase too play with certain weapons, instead of the promised "play the way you want", because it is not possible with sunset. I don´t get it. And I play Destiny since Destiny 1 Day 1. What is happening right now is just mind-boggling and stupid. I am really not angry anymore, but since we lost Major Publishers and Devs, Bungie is not holy as we see now, too. Yeah...the games may be there, but are not the same anymore. Why should I invest time for a grind, when you will tell me I wasted my time some weeks later? And guys, be real for once, don´t defend in a stupid way because this really makes no sense at all. We are all forced into Loadouts and all players will look the same again. Transmogry doesn´t matter if all play the same weapons. That is what will happen. This game really doesn´t respect the time of the players anymore, and it saddens me, that the big part of the community is so ignorant and can´t stop playing for a few weeks so Bungie realize there is something wrong. No preorder this time on my side. If you love Destiny, stop playing it. Sounds stupid, but it is the reality.

pretty much even the reset today isn't exciting anymore, yes my power level may climb a bit (1-2) but knowing that my hard earned weapons are going bye bye from season 12 is a real kick in the teeth. unless bungie can confirm god rolls at a lot more frequent rate then no one will play, tbh the power infusion cap has effectively shut out 80% of the player base from doing rewarding content. because of it many will leave, possible me too :(
