Hi there. To get Thorn, you actually have to kill the two knights that spawn first then kill the servitor boss.

The two knights spawned after me and my friends killed the shrieker, and a witch spawned with them. We didn't have the time to kill them, since the game was telling us we finished the mission, but when we returned to orbit it said that I hadn't completed it. Also, no objectives were given or lines of dialogue heard throughout the entire mission.
