I passed 100 days on bungie recently, casual like many, never finished a Raid, and at start had the same issue with Cores when I passed 500 power level, even made a thread on official forums. There were discussions and whines
lol and also suggestions, I came outta my comfort zone and accepted that it is me doing it wrong. So, I started to google a bit then started to roam around Destiny world and find a good way that suits me to get them.
So, with simulation seed farm idea. I focused on forging Mercury weapons. In this process I also had Spider Bounties on side note. By just playing the game, I was completing them one after another. I was completing Mercury forges and Spider bounties. in this process I was getting Cores already. When that was done, Simulation Seeds made it even much easier. You can repeat Simulation Seed Farm couple of times and get good amount of mats you need. Remember to empty your inventory on vault and then visit Brother Vance, don't let much goes to postmaster as things might loss in process if postmaster get fulled.
I also understood there is no need to rush and have many weapons infused fast, as there are recommended power for many activities. so at power level 550, You could run Leviathan, NF, Strikes and many other stuff. But as I was going up, I wasn't even rushing to use new drops as you get higher drops by just having them in your vault. I chose a set that I infused them with 15-20 power ups, such as Thunderlord, Badlander, Breakneck when got around 600 power lvl, to be able to run higher needed power activities. So, this is the main key here, For this season I have't touched my new drops, because only one activity needs higher power requirement and that is the end game content, so it makes sense to have a bit difficulty getting ready for it as it is as said an end game content.
PVP weapons and sets were never my focus to be infused, Only Iron Banner is using power level, so you could make a set for it, or slowly with time infuse same new drops to infuse them with glimmer. Also I like Exotic Duplicate drops, they are good to infuse too. Patience, I stopped infusing and burning my Cores. We can run around the world with lower power level and kill things, no need to rush at all. When you can run Leviathan at 300 which is a raid, getting there at 700 won't make a difference. So take your time, enjoy it. This is a great design.
This part actually was important and made me realize that actually farming Cores is fun and sends you around the open world with new adventures. Not much pressure, looking around, finding chests, Investigating items, doing Heroic Public events when was waiting for Wanted Enemies to appear. In this process, I completed Triumphs, Badges such as Forsaken, Red War. Also doing Heroic Public events, Lost Sectors got me Exotic Engrams, this is season so far got 4 already. So, without much sweat, I was having fun killing things with different weapons, getting kill counts on my weapons, emblems and getting things done. It was fun, try it this way and see for yourselves.
Also Each time I was on a planet to get lost sector or Wanted Enemies. I got bounties from vendors. By completing them, I could get more mats either for Infuse cost or get to vendor and turn them to engrams to get more cores. These also can happen fast and it is part of the game, so you are just playing the game, each aspect of the game has a purpose and has it's own rewards, with a Looter Shooter is it really strange and is it really developer's fault that they designed it like this? To me, it was all fun and system is fine. and it comes from someone that was looking to remove them. When I thought it about it more, I realized why system is planted and why it is fine. Also draws a line for players that are willing to farm for them, to use more guns and masterwork them and those are not willing to farm for them and whine about it.
Core Bounties, Do them fast if you are in need of Cores. When got the 3 of them, Cache, Vanguard, Crucible. Vanguard you can start from planets if don't wanna finish them, The Corrupted is good since there are many mobs at entrance to kill, you can finish and abandon. Or you could get bounties from Zavala, Planet vendor and Shaxx. Finish as many as you can, when done turn the tokens and mats and get more bounties and Cores, Shards.
In this process I got lots of Mod components too, even mods from open world drops. Because there are legendary drops with mods attached. And if you have BA, then much easier. So get out there and farm them. I did and it suited me well. You don't need to do anything special, just play the game and manage it. Good Luck Guardians, sorry for Long Bad-English thread lol

5 RepliesI kind of wish the argument defending cores wasn't centered on people not managing their cores or that getting cores is easy. Yes getting them is easy. Yes you can manage them by using alternative gear or fugly armor. What I'd like to hear is why are they a good thing. What do they add to the gaming experience. I did the Spider bounties for a bit, but to get the ghost fragments you first have to farm the shore. Boring. Let's farm the only planet with no sparrow available. Boring, not to mention having to listen to brother Vance ramble on and on. The only thing cores add to the game is yet another boring time sink. Would it be terrible to add core drops to strikes, EP, Lost Sectors, or other activities we do while actually playing the game?

Yes use a work around but ignore the fact that the system itself is still bad. But i respect the way you presented your argument.

6 RepliesThey're a SERIOUS problem. I'm getting dangerously close to falling below 1,100.
-
3 RepliesFINALLY!!! SOMEONE SENSIBLE ABOUT THIS TOPIC!!! It's really tiring seeing so many people complain about this so called "problem" when they don't realize that the "problem" is actually their own fault. Thank you for the post, and BUMP!

3 RepliesYou patched the problem, not fixed it.

I can’t be bothered to list my experiences again, I just get shouted down, so here’s one example which is typical of farming for cores. I dropped 7000 seeds and in return I got 14 cores and 1 bounty. That not counting the thousands of seeds I’ve dropped before that with a similar return. But apparently I want things handed to me.

I admire your optimism but I still think the system sucks. In D1, people complained about having to farm materials on planets and Bungie got rid of that boring grind...but these cores are actually way more boring and slower to acquire.
-
2 RepliesJust because we can manage our cores, doesnt mean the problem with them is fixed. I know how to farm them and I know how to spend them (I have around 70 atm, so I'm good), but still, everytime you want to bring up something to your current light it hurts. 3 of Spider bounties for one infusion....the balance is just off IMO. I still have exotics in the bank at a lightlevel of 280, because its not worth infusing when the next light-level increase is around the corner. So I only play with the same old weapons, because Bungie insists on "meaningful choices" WTF!?

Wow it's like someone knows how to manage their cores/mats.
-
so true, after I did all of my scrapper bounties and the spider wanted bounties I ended up getting 23 cores in the span of 3 hours

Adequate post about Enhancement Cores??? I'm dreaming?
-
The system isn't great but it is manageable.

4 RepliesHuh, didn't know about Mercury, thanks mate will be very useful and I'm the same really never completed a raid though my Warlock is 658, Hunter 650 and Titan 646 lol

The argument is in the name, enhancement cores. This rare resource shouldn't be utilized in making a better fashion statement, rolling for more convenient perks to playstyles, or using whatever gun I want in higher power level activities. It should only be used for enhancing our gear.
